HS Girls Volleyball

The High School Girls Volleyball program concluded its season last Friday. Even though the records were not ideal, they do not reflect the amount of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. Tuesday was the final home game as we welcomed Front Range Christian. The C team lost the first set in a tough battle and then used that loss to fuel their motivation as they came back to win sets two and three to win the match. Freshman Emorie Zaharris led the way with arguably her best offensive performance of the year! The JV tried to follow in the C team’s footsteps but came up short. They lost both sets by a score of 24-26 and 23-25, truly as close as possible. The Varsity squared off against the top team in the league and honestly played well. The girls did not let the moment get too big for them as they looked poised on the whole court. The talent and dominance from Front Range was just a little too much as they beat our Varsity in three sets. Friday was the last game of the season as we headed to Fort Collins to play against Heritage Christian. It was a tough game for all three teams as they all fell in straight sets. This atmosphere was emotional as we said goodbye to our four seniors, Avery Bridgham, Tania Leighton, Faith Samuel, and Sydeney Friend. These four poured so much into this program, and we are forever grateful for their influence. Great job, girls, and I'm looking forward to next season!

HS Boys Soccer

The HS Boys Soccer team headed to Bishop Machebeuf High School to face off against Loveland Classical Academy in the first round of the boys state soccer tournament. Sophomore Nathan Kamman was active early in goal, but after saving a handful of shots, Loveland Classical got on the board, sneaking a shot past Nathan Kamman. Freshman Ben Bishop and Evan Nadrash were constantly in the mix of all the action, trying to create any opportunity to get on the board. After late rallies came short, Loveland Classical added an insurance goal to seal the deal. We unfortunately fell short, and the season concluded. Nonetheless, it was a great season with a ton of success that will undoubtedly be carried on into next season. Great job this season boys!

HS Cross Country

The boys on the cross country team represented our school this past weekend at the Colorado State Cross Country Championships. Junior Mitch Hixson finished as the best SVA runner, finishing 90th in the most competitive race of the season. Freshman Rylan Griffith, Sophomore Nathan Kamman, Senior Declan Casey, Sophomore Everett Johnson, and Junior Aarjav Shah all finished strong races, which concluded an enduring and excellent season! Congratulations to all of our runners this season. I am looking forward to another strong season next year.

HS Poms

The HS Poms team competed last weekend in the 2023 Denver Regional Competition and scored 77.63. This score demonstrated the talent and improvement this team has, as this score is already better than the score they received at their first competition last year. Junior leaders Imani Iverson and Izzy Babbel did a great job with their silhouettes and created great energy for the girls throughout their routine.

College Fair
Mrs. Kamman hosted a successful College Fair. With 19 Colleges and 2 Military Representatives, our students were able to ask questions and obtain information from some Colleges they might be interested in attending after they graduate from SVA. Mrs. Kamman enjoys giving our students these opportunities to start planning for what is to come after high school.

NHS and BackPack Society Collect Non-Perishable Donations During Trunk-or-Treat

Members of NHS helped to decorate an SVA bus and participated in Trunk-or-Treat. They spent the evening collecting non-perishable food donations for BackPack Society that will help serve our neighbors who need it the most! Thanks to our generous community for all the donations!

NHS Students Volunteer at Food Bank of the Rockies

SVA’s NHS Students volunteered their time on October 3 at The Food Bank of The Rockies. They spent 4 hours putting 70 Food Pellets together that weighed 102,913 pounds and provided 83,188 meals to help nourish people in our community facing hunger.

Fall 2023 College Campus Visits

Mrs. Kamman took several students this fall semester to visit The Colorado School of Mines, The University of Denver, Regis University, Colorado Christian University, University of Colorado-Denver, Metro State University, and University of Colorado-CO Springs. This allowed Juniors and Seniors to get questions answered, and a few students made a final decision as to the College they plan to attend after high school! All the students who participated in the Fall 2023 College Campus Visits were respectful, intrigued, and enjoyed the opportunity to visit the College campuses.

National Honor Society and Douglas County Canine Rescue

By the National Honor Society Chapter

The National Honor Society dedicates itself to fostering volunteerism, leadership, and service within our school community. In line with this commitment, our chapter organized a project to support the Douglas County Canine Rescue, a local dog rescue organization. Running from October 2 to October 12, this effort exceeded expectations! In total, we collected a remarkable 11 large bags (some of them brimming to capacity) packed with dog supplies. These donations encompassed a diverse range of items, including blankets, toys, leashes, and more. These donations will undoubtedly bolster the rescue's capacity to care for dogs in need and facilitate their mission of finding forever homes.

Samantha, a dedicated worker at the Douglas County Canine Rescue, expressed her gratitude, saying, “Thank you so much!!! Such amazing gifts for the dogs. We truly appreciate it!”

We extend our gratitude to everyone who contributed to this project. Your donations and support were instrumental in making this endeavor a success, and we deeply appreciate your involvement. This project would not have been possible without your generosity and commitment. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of dogs in need and for being an integral part of our National Honor Society's service initiative.

Learning about la Toussaint in French Class

This week, SVA’s French students learned about la Toussaint and how it is celebrated in France, as well as the famous Catacombs of Paris. The students entered the “catacombs of SVA” and identified unmarked gravestones of famous French people through a scavenger hunt.

Did you know that World Languages are an integral pillar at SkyView? We're thrilled to announce that we now offer French classes for 8th graders at the middle school level!

AP Lang Silent Discussion

AP Lang students watched the TED Talk, "The Danger of a Single Story" by Chimamanda Nogzi Adichie. They evaluated the lecture for Rhetorical Devices and analyzed her Line of Reasoning through a Silent Discussion. A Silent Discussion allows students to annotate portions of the speech and then comment on peer observations and annotations to engage critical thinking.
