While we will do everything possible to prevent injuries and accidents at the school, there is still potential for serious accidents and injuries in any athletic event. If a serious injury occurs, time becomes critical. Subsequently, the implementation of this Emergency Action Plan must be adhered to while in attendance at the school.

Lockdown Procedures
The school building may be put into a lockdown situation due to internal or external emergencies. Internal emergencies include an armed individual, a medical emergency, or an out-of-control child or adult. External emergencies include events occurring near the school. Both internal and external emergencies will be treated in the same manner.
1) In the event of a lockdown the following message will be relayed over the school intercom system by Principal Sarah Holmgren (or a designated school supervisor): “Lockdown, Lockdown, Lockdown”.
2) This message will be announced three times if safe to do so.
3) The principal or a designated staff supervisor should be prepared to call 911.
4) Initiate divisional emergency Communications Procedures for Person in Charge.
5) Visually check hallways for students, visitors, volunteers, etc. and invite them into a classroom.
6) Direct students, visitors, volunteers, etc., into your secure location and identified lockdown area.
7) Close the room door (the door should already be in a locked position). Ensure that students and spectators are as safe as possible: mute phones and cover internal windows if possible.
8) If the threat is external, wait for further instruction.
9) Maintain a calm environment by remaining calm and reassuring students and spectators that everything possible is being done to return the situation to normal.
10) Maintain Silence.
11) Stay out of view of doors and windows.
12) Police or School Administration Staff will end the lockdown and unlock all doors. Remain in your secure location until this occurs.
13) Complete the Critical Incident Report and necessary Student/Staff/Volunteer Incident report as per Incident Procedures.
Fire Evacuation
1) In the event of a fire, inform Principal Sarah Holmgren (or a designated school supervisor) of the location and extent of the fire.
2) Initiate divisional emergency Communications Procedures for Person in Charge.
3) Everyone must walk as rapidly as possible, without running or crowding, into the hall and out of the nearest exit or an alternate exit if required. Keep as far away as possible from the fire’s location.
4) Call 911, inform them of the nature, location, and extent of the fire, and direct them to the appropriate school entrance.
5) Staff and adult volunteers will ensure that no one remains in the building and that doors are closed.
6) Re-enter the building only after fire services have declared it safe.
7) Complete the Critical Incident Report and necessary Student/Staff/Volunteer Incident report as per Incident Procedures.
