THE CLASSROOM EXPERIENCE
Why a Gifted French Immersion Program?
- Differentiated content, processes and products (problem-based learning, flexible groupings (ability, interest, dynamic), varied presentation formats, etc.)
- Opportunities to extend learning with greater depth and breadth of curriculum
- Facilitates greater development of creative and critical thinking skills
- Encourages development of leadership skills and social skills
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The French Immersion Gifted program at Glebe:
- A supportive learning environment for students with a learning exceptionality of giftedness
- Inclusive of learners with additional exceptionalities
- Same curriculum as non-gifted courses
- Assessment - same curricular expectations as regular program
→ Teachers within the program teach both gifted and regular classes in the same grade
- Students take designated ‘Gifted’ classes as well as classes with students from the regular program
→ Designated as ‘partial integration’ on a student’s IPRC record
- Most compulsory courses are offered as ‘Gifted’ classes
- Students in the program need to choose ‘Gifted’ courses that are offered for that grade level

APPLICATION PROCESS
A) Student IS currently registered in a OCDSB Elementary Congregated Gifted French Immersion Program AND Glebe is the Gifted French Immersion School Site
Process
- Course selection via Xello; current grade 8 teacher will support
- Cross Boundary Transfer is NOT required (Automatic Acceptance)
B) Student is NOT currently in an OCDSB congregated program and
- meets OCDSB Criteria for Secondary Gifted French Program
- Glebe is the student’s designated Gifted French Immersion school
Process
- Complete the OCDSB Referral Form: Specialized Gifted Program (Secondary)
- Provide a copy of a psychological report OR the results from one or both of the following cognitive assessments: CCAT7, WISC V
- Most recent student report card (optional)
- Most recent Individual Education Plan (as applicable)
Applications are subject to approval by the Gifted Program Admissions Committee

Process
- In addition to the criteria outlined in B), the student must submit a Cross-Boundary Transfer Application
- Cross-Boundary Transfer Applications are subject to Approval by the School Principal
- The Cross-Boundary Transfer deadline is February 10, 2023
