Virtual Learning FAQs

What do you need to know about Virtual Learning?
- Virtual Learning for the 2020-2021 school year will look different than your virtual learning experience in the Spring of 2020.
- When a student selects the virtual learning option they will be locked into that choice for the entirety of that 9-week grading period.
- Parents must notify our campus registrar via email of a change 2 weeks prior.
- Students will follow the same academic schedule and the same teachers that they have for in-person learning through virtual learning.
- Students are expected to participate in live-streamed classes via Google Meet for each class to take part in simultaneous learning with on-site students.
- Virtual learners will receive the same assignments, grading policy, and be held to the same requirements of our mastery-based learning system.
- Students will be expected to complete daily assignments.
- Daily attendance will be documented for each class period. Virtual learners are required by the state of Texas to meet a 90% attendance requirement.
- If a student has opted for virtual learning, they will not be able to participate in on campus extracurricular activities, i.e. Athletics.
- iSchool of Lewisville will NOT offer a hybrid model.
- Students will need to have consistent access to the internet and a technology device that supports our curriculum as well as teleconferencing.
- If a county or state mandate is issued these are the guidelines that we will follow for all students.

Why does virtual learning look different than the Spring?
TEA stipulated that the students day should be equivalent to an on-campus day.
What if I do not have a computer or internet access at home?
Students will need internet access at home in order to use their Chromebook or own device. If you need to check out a Chromebook from the school, contact Mr. Phillips. (lphillips@responsiveed.com).
Will there be any fees to participate in virtual learning?
There are no additional fees associated with choosing virtual learning. Some electives may require a small deposit fee for using equipment specific to that course and communicated by the teacher. If this is a financial burden, please contact Mr. Phillips (lphillips@responsiveed.com).
If I chose virtual learning to start the school year, does that mean I have to continue the rest of the year?
Once virtual learning is selected, you will be locked in for the entirety of the 9-week grading period. You will need to notify the campus registrar if you are wanting to make a change.
What if my student needs to be quarantined?
Students in the event of needing to be quarantined can join our virtual learning model immediately until they are cleared for safe return.
Will daily attendance be taken during virtual learning?
TEA requires that daily attendance is taken as well as daily completion of work.
Will my student have a different teacher than the students at school?
Your student will have the same access to the teacher as the on-site students. Teachers will run Google Meets simultaneously for direct teaching and will post recordings of lessons and digital resources for all students in Google Classroom.
How long is the school day for virtual learning?
Virtual learning mirrors the school day of an on-site learner, 8:00 AM - 3:40 PM
Will lessons be taught live?
Yes, teachers will have simultaneous instruction via Google Meet as well as small group opportunities with on-site and virtual learners. Teacher instructional styles will look different depending on the course.
Will the virtual learning curriculum be the same as the in-person curriculum?
Yes, virtual learning students will use the same digital curriculum with our precision-based mastery standard, as well as any other supplemental material the teacher normally uses.
Will my student still have to meet the 90% mastery?
Students participating in virtual learning will still be required to meet our 90% master-standard.
Will assignments be due daily or weekly?
Students will be expected to complete daily assignments as specified in their teachers’ blueprints. Due dates are located within JupiterEd.
How will virtual learning assignments be graded?
TEA guidelines state that grading policies for in-person will be consistent with virtual learning. Refer to our Academics section in the iSchool of Lewisville Campus Handbook. For high school courses , we will be following the same guidelines for calculating GPA.
How will my student complete mastery exams?
Updated 9.25: Students will be able to complete unit tests from home if they are labeled as a virtual learner. For online testing, students must have a working camera and the ability to share their screen while testing to ensure testing fidelity. If your device does not support these capabilities, the school will provide you with one.
Will my student still be able to participate in the Flex-Scheduling program?
Flex-Scheduling will be honored for both onsite and virtual learning as long as contract expectations are upheld.
Can my student participate in on-campus after-school activities, like a dance or club, if enrolled in virtual learning?
No. Your student will not be able to participate in after-school on-campus activities if in virtual learning. This is to ensure limited exposure and uphold our daily COVID mitigation practices for students on campus.
What about the school supplies I have already ordered?
iSchool of Lewisville staff will sort and pull out supplies to be used on campus and then notify parents of a pick up day.
How do I drop off school supplies?
School supplies to be used on-campus such as disinfectant wipes, paper towels, copy paper, kleenex, expo markers, some of the pencils/pens, etc. Can be dropped off at the school office. We will also be sending out communication for a designated drop off day as well.
Sports & Athletics
Are sports being offered?
We are offering MS and HS flag football, MS and HS volleyball, MS girls/boys and HS girls/boys basketball, MS girls/boys soccer and HS girls/boys soccer, and baseball. The development of these teams will be based on student interest.
Can a student opt for virtual learning and play sports?
No, we are requiring that a student needs to be participating in on-site campus learning in order to participate in sports.
