TLDR: 31-year-old monogamous straight man. SF Bay Area; not looking for a long-distance relationship. Software engineer. No kids, but I'll probably want kids someday. 6'1" tall. Atheist. Politically liberal (but with a lot of nuance). Drink socially, no tobacco or drugs.

About me

I'm a thinker and a tinkerer: As a kid, I was addicted to LEGOs, but my meager allowance couldn't support my LEGO habit, so in my teens I switched to coding. In undergrad, I detoured into physics at Caltech; although I was an 'A' student, I decided research wasn't my passion, so I didn't pursue a PhD. I'm now an engineer at AI research lab Anthropic. (And I love my job!) I also dabble in electronics and 3D printing, leaving behind a trail of half-finished projects, as well as some finished ones.

I love spending time with my friends, even if it's just casually chatting over dinner or hanging out on a friend's couch. I'm semi-introverted -- I get along fine with new people, but my "social battery" gets depleted after a few hours.

A sample of things I enjoy: Bret Devereaux's history blog, Matt Levine on finance, Chemical Safety Board investigations, r/PixelArt, r/WholesomeMemes, r/Frogs (they're cute! 🐸). I'm more the "academic" kind of nerd than the "Star Trek and D&D" kind of nerd, but I get along well with the latter kind. I play video games occasionally, and when I'm having a bad day, my guilty pleasure is to binge-read terrible manga.

I enjoy being out in nature, and I ride my bike along the Bay Trail on weekends. I like road trips, and my friends and I usually go on a road trip every winter. I kinda want to travel abroad more, but I'm not a fan of long plane flights.

Although I'm financially stable, my ethos tends towards minimalism. I prefer not to own unnecessary things. I like mending worn clothes and fixing broken things. My apartment is tiny, clean, and cozy. I currently live alone, but I've had roommates in the past and really enjoyed it. Living with people is a great way to form a healthy and supportive community!

Think we might be a good match? Send me an email with your own dating doc, or a photo + short bio. Mention this doc so I know you're not a spammer. I look forward to hearing from you!

My email: timmaxw @ (the super-popular email provider that starts with "g")

For a first date, I like a casual weekend coffee somewhere near SF, but I can be flexible.

I know it can be really intimidating to reach out and contact a potential partner! I want you to know that you aren't bothering me, whether or not it turns out to be a good match. 🙂
