             CSS Athletic Training- Emergency Action Plan

Mars Lakeview Arena

  1. Perform the initial / primary survey of the situation and the athlete, checking for:
  1. Level of consciousness
  2. ABC’s (Airway, Breathing, Circulation)
  3. Bleeding and signs of shock
  1. Determine what is needed to attend to the situation (ambulance, AED, splints, etc.)
  2. If a team physician is present and needed, instruct one person to summon the physician.
  3. If necessary, instruct one person to call 911, activating EMS (Emergency Medical System).
  4. Provide the 911 operator with the following information:
  1. Your name and title
  2. Type of emergency or suspected injury
  3. Sex, age, and present condition of the athlete (level of consciousness, breathing, circulation, excessive bleeding, etc)
  4. Current assistance being given to the athlete
  5. Telephone number of the phone being used
  6. Location and address of emergency-

Mars Lakeview Arena, 1201 Rice Lake Road

*Rear entrance, near Zamboni room*

  1. DO NOT hang up until the 911 operator has hung up first and needs no further information.
  1. If the ambulance is called, instruct one person to meet the ambulance at the rear entrance of the arena, near the Zamboni room as this is the easiest access point to the ice surface.
  2. If an AED is required, the ATC will have one available with their medical supplies at the rink.

If no ATC present, the nearest AED is located on the wall above the stands on the seating side of the arena.

  1. If an ATC is not present, but on campus, send one person to call/summon an ATC after EMS has been activated.

  1. Continue appropriate care until higher trained medical personnel arrive.
  2. Coaching personnel and/or game management staff should assist in crowd management.
  3. Debrief appropriate personnel and Document the incident. Follow catastrophic incident management plan if necessary.
