Institute for Information Literacy at Purdue
Graduate Research Award
Graduate student researchers (currently enrolled) conducting research examining the role of information literacy in navigating information challenges are eligible to apply for the annual graduate student information literacy research award. The Institute will seek nominations for the award and a review committee will select a winner. The annual winner will receive a $1,000 award and be featured as an invited speaker at the annual ID:EALS symposium.
Purpose
Society faces significant information challenges today, ranging from misinformation campaigns designed to confuse and disempower, to a lack of access to credible information that can have life-altering, disproportionate effects on different communities. Information Literacy researchers can make a positive difference in addressing these unwieldy challenges. Through this award, the Institute for Information Literacy at Purdue highlights the work of graduate researchers beginning their work in scholarship and encourages more research to be conducted in this area.
Program Description
The Institute for Information Literacy at Purdue offers this award to recognize excellence in graduate student research investigating the ways in which information literacy is uniquely positioned to address the deluge of information challenges facing our society. The Institute invites nominations of research projects addressing these issues to be considered for this award.
One annual award will be given in the amount of $1,000.
Applicants must be currently enrolled (full or part time) in a graduate program and conducting research relevant to the call for information literacy-based solutions to information challenges.
Nomination Process
Nomination materials must be submitted via email to the Institute – instituteil@purdue.edu.
Nominations must be in the form of a written application, composed of:
Successful nominations will demonstrate clearly how the research advances the understanding and application of information literacy in relation to information challenges and how communities are impacted as a result. Relevance, originality, and impactfulness will be considered.

The deadline for nominations is December 31, 2022. Awardees will be notified in early March 2023.
