Studio VIE COVID-19 Guidelines (revised 8/12/2020)

Important Information Regarding Classes

Schedule

Our schedule will proceed as normal.  Should Missouri, Springfield or Greene County alter their Road To Recovery Guidelines, we will review our schedule as needed.

Health Precautions

Studio VIE has developed an extensive plan, in accordance with Missouri Health Guidelines and City of Springfield Road to Recovery guidelines.  After reading through this important information document, please scroll or click the link to the left to find our health guidelines.

Tuition

Tuition will be charged as normal (½ month for August and a full month on the first of each month through May).  Should closure be required that extend beyond on built in make up days in June, we will assess possible virtual classes or additional makeup options for any missed classes.

Students who miss for any reason may make up in another class deemed appropriate by the teacher.  Talk to your teacher for the best makeup options.

Drop Off

Our lobby, front desk, student lounge, dressing rooms, and kitchen are closed until further notice.  Dancers should come dressed for dance class (warm ups or t shirt/shorts over dancewear is fine) except for shoe changes.

Below you will see a table of information about whether your student’s class will be entering through entrance one (main entrance) or entrance two (1519 - CLI room entrance).

Park near that entrance and wait until a teacher comes outside the building with a sign for your class.  At that time your child will line up outside the building and be brought in with the teacher.

Dancers who drive should park and wait until 5 minutes before class time to come in and join the room.

Below is a table showing which classes will be entering through which doors.  If your child has classes in succession, they just need to follow the entrance guidelines for their FIRST class. Teachers will guide students in sanitizing and moving between classes.

Pick Up

Our pick up will be “car line style” around the back of the building.  Approximately 5 minutes before class is scheduled to end, please drive your car around the building on the west side all the way down the back alley (facing east) and pull forward toward Weller Street forming a line bumper to bumper. Please be patient and do not attempt to park near the building or skip past the car line as students are dismissed.  We are looking out for the safety of all of our little ones.

Teachers will open the back doors and supervise/assist students as they walk to cars in the car line.  Please wait until all students from that shift are loaded and safely in cars before pulling out and exiting on Weller.  Please be prompt for pickup so our teachers may stay on schedule as much as possible.

Driving students will be walked from the back of the building to their parked car, or if it is the end of the night, they will be released out of the entrance after car line pick up is completed.

No students under driving age will be released from the front of the building.  Please observe car line procedure. All drop off and pick up procedures are enforced to assist with supervision of social distancing.

In Class Procedures

  • Upon entering the building, all students will be asked to wash their hands.  Hand sanitizer will be used frequently in the classrooms, especially if students are seen touching their faces.
  • Belongings will be stored and separated along the wall or in sanitized cubbies.  Please do not send large bags or backpacks with students.  Students should come ready to dance (except for a change of shoes) and carry needed shoes into the studio in a small string bag or tote.
  • No food or drink is allowed in the studio, except for water bottles with closed lids that are clearly labeled with the dancer’s name.  Any water bottles left behind will be thrown away.
  • All dancers and teachers must enter the building wearing face masks and must remain masked any time they are outside of a dance classroom or sitting and watching.  Face masks may be removed only during physical exertion, or teaching and social distancing must be observed.  Masks are not required during dance class, and are optional due to their limiting nature.  The urge to adjust face masks during dancing and the limiting of a dancer’s endurance are both concerns for us.  Please do what you feel will make you most comfortable.
  • Students will have personal space 6 feet apart and will not touch each other or any props such as spots, barres, mats, etc. without proper sanitation between uses.  Unfortunately, this also means hugs, so please help our little ones understand.  Tumbling and aerial classes will require participants to use hand sanitizer between every use of mats or silks, and all equipment will be sanitized between classes/uses.
  • At the end of each class, teachers will sanitize any frequently touched areas before inviting the next class of students into the building.  This may result in classes being dismissed and started 5 minutes off schedule. Please be understanding of this time as it is truly out of the deepest concern for your children.

These are just highlights.  Please see all health precautions listed in the tables below.

Missouri Health Guidelines

How Studio VIE is Addressing These Guidelines

General Guidelines for Missourians

Citizens who feel sick should stay home

Any dancers with personal or family illnesses should stay home.  Company dancers will not be penalized for missing rehearsal due to illness.

Continue to practice good hygiene, including:

  • Washing hands and/or using hand sanitizer, especially after touching frequently used items or surfaces;
  • Avoiding touching your face;
  • Sneezing or coughing into a tissue, or the inside of your elbow; and
  • Disinfecting frequently used items and surfaces as much as possible.

  • All students will wash hands upon arrival, between each class, and before leaving to go home
  • Avoid choreography that touches head or face
  • All classrooms equipped with tissues, hand sanitizer, and clorox wipes
  • Ballet barres and other props must be sanitized between use with no exceptions. Teachers will disinfect all music stations, ipad covers, door handles, etc between every class.
  • Dancers should come dressed for classes and avoid bringing large bags into the studio.  Please bring only items you will need and place them along the wall of the classroom (not in the student lounge or dressing rooms)

Avoid socializing in groups that do not readily allow for appropriate physical distancing (receptions, trade shows, etc.). When in public (parks, outdoor recreation spaces, shopping malls, etc.), individuals should maximize physical distance from others.

  • Lobby, dressing room, student lounge and kitchen will be closed.  Students will move directly to classrooms and locate an X on the floor to begin class.  Spots will be marked on the floor at 6 feet apart.
  • Parents, or students who are waiting for class to begin/taking a break between classes should remain in their cars or bring an outdoor lawn chair to socialize using social distancing (6 feet apart) in the grass lot next to the building. Students with short breaks may remain in the classroom and sit along the wall as long as they maintain appropriate social distancing.  Students will not be permitted outside without parents present.
  • Drop off and pick up procedures will be modified to reduce entering and exiting through the same doorway.
  • There will be no food or drinks with straws allowed in the studio for any reason.  Please eat at home or in your car.  Water bottles with lids that are clearly labeled with the dancer’s name will be allowed.  Absolutely NO sharing of drinks or food.

Minimize travel to the extent possible.

General Guidelines for Businesses

Prepare to implement basic infection prevention measures informed by industry best practices, regarding:

  • Protective equipment;
  • Temperature checks;
  • Testing, isolating, and contact tracing; and
  • Sanitation, including disinfection of common and high-traffic areas (entrances, breakrooms, locations where there is high-frequency employee interaction with the public/customers).

See above regarding classroom supplies, common areas, and sanitation

  • All dancers and teachers must enter the building wearing face masks and must remain masked any time they are outside of a dance classroom or sitting and watching.  Face masks may be removed only during physical exertion, or teaching and social distancing must be observed.
  • Students and teachers may choose to wear protective face masks DURING class. This is OPTIONAL due to the limiting nature of masks.  Also, frequent adjustments to face masks have been noted to spread infection more than help.  Face masks will limit breathing and movement of dancers.
  • We will not be conducting temperature checks at this time.  Feel free to test your child’s temperature prior to class.
  • Should your dancer or a family member become sick following attendance at the studio, please contact us immediately
  • There will be no in person front desk business conducted until further notice.  Please contact us via email (contact@studioviedance.com) with questions or needs.  Much of our business can be conducted through our parent portal or email.

Modify physical workspaces to maximize social distancing.

  • Classrooms will have marks on the floor to notate 6 feet apart
  • Students will not engage in partnering or lifts, will not hold hands or interact physically with one another until social distancing guidelines are relaxed

Minimize business travel.

Develop an infectious disease preparedness and response plan, including policies and procedures for workforce contact tracing when an employee tests positive for COVID-19.

  • Should your dancer or a family member become sick following attendance at the studio, please contact us immediately
  • We will notify all families should a student, teacher or family member test positive for COVID-19

Monitor workforce for indicative symptoms. Do not allow symptomatic people to physically return to work until cleared by a medical provider.

  • Any child or teacher who begins to develop symptoms will be removed from class and parents will be notified.
  • Please do not bring your child to class if they are exhibiting any symptoms of illness, even if you do not believe they have contracted or been exposed to COVID-19

Develop, implement, and communicate about workplace flexibilities and protections, including:

  • Encouraging telework whenever possible and feasible with business operations;
  • Returning to work in phases and/or split shifts, if possible;
  • Limiting access to common areas where personnel are likely to congregate and interact; and
  • Ensuring that sick leave policies are flexible and consistent with public health guidance.

  • Limiting entrances and exits, as well as movement throughout the studio will reduce contact between students
  • See above about the closure of the lobby, student lounge, dressing room and kitchen
  • Students and staff will not be penalized for missing classes or rehearsal.  Students who miss a class are allowed, as always, to make up the class at another time that is deemed appropriate by the teacher.  Please talk to your teacher about makeup options
