Mazzola Food Program

The Mazzola meal program will be offered every Tuesday starting September 18th. The Mazzola was on hand at the Open House last week to provide samples and information to families interested in participating in this program. The samples were very popular with our students. Information regarding additional school meal programs will be sent to parents following the School Council Elections on Tuesday, September 18th. L’Entreprise Mazzola is a family owned business that prepares healthy lunches strictly following the regulations established by the Ministries of Health and of Education. The meals are delivered the same day they are prepared. No nuts or products containing nuts are allowed in their facilities. The content of salt and sugar is reduced to a minimum in their meals, and no preservatives are added. There is a two allergy menus, one for gluten free and one for egg, milk and gluten free. The meals arrive at schools in insulated boxes, which keep the contents hot. Each child receives his or her lunch in a paper bag at lunchtime. The preparation and distribution of the meals, as well as all the administration involved, is carried out entirely by L’Entreprise Mazzola. To order meals and/or create an account please visit www.mazzola.ca. If you already have an account with Mazzola please update your child's class information at the start of each school year. You can order up to 7AM the same day the meal is to be delivered, but there is a $1.00 extra fee per meal ordered the same day or the previous day. If you have ordered a meal, and your child will be absent from school, you can cancel the order any time, up to 9 AM the day the meal is to be served. You can do it directly on line, or you can also phone 613-234-9978 and leave a message indicating the name of the child, the school, the class and the day for which you are canceling the meal. This will give you a credit for another meal. If you do not cancel the order no credit will be possible. The staff at Mazzola are very helpful.  Do not hesitate to contact them directly if you have any issues with ordering or account set up. You can also contact the School Council at corkerycouncil@gmail.com should you have any further questions.

School Cash Online

School Cash Online is up and running The student activity fees can now be paid using this online payment system. We will also be using School Cash Online for our school food programs. More information will be coming next week about the programs that will be offered. All new families are invited to sign up for School Cash Online, it takes very little time.

School Council Meeting

The first meeting of the St. Michael Corkery Catholic School Council this school year will be held on Tuesday, September 18th, at 6:30pm in the Learning Commons. The School Council elections will be held during this meeting. All parents are welcome to attend.

Thanks

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend the school mass and the Open House on Thursday, September 13th. It was great to see so many members of our school community. The students were very excited to show their parents their classrooms and all of the exciting things they are learning.

Vulnerable Sector Checks for Volunteers

Beginning this month, volunteers working with students in the OCSB must complete a vulnerable sector check. This includes parents and other volunteers taking part in field trips, those working with students in schools, and those volunteering at events where they may be in isolation with students even for a brief period of time (eg., meeting in a small area to distribute food/beverages). Please note that there are three types of Criminal Record Checks; Level 1: Criminal Record Check (CRC) Level 2: Criminal Record Check and Judicial Matters Check (CRJM) Level 3: Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) Anyone over 18 who wishes to take part in a volunteer opportunity in a school must complete a Level 3 Vulnerable Sector Check.
There are two options for competing a vulnerable sector check:
1. In person –
 Details can be found here
2. Online –
 Details can be found here
Please note we have letters at the office that will waive the fee for you so long as it is not a same day record check. Please contact the school if interested and we will send one home for you. Please give us a copy of your criminal record check once completed and we will create a database. Thank you for taking the time to have this completed as we will always need volunteers!

Carp Fair

It is that time of year again and we know how excited everyone is for the Carp Fair. If your child will not be attending school on Friday, September 21st, we ask that you write a note in your child’s agenda, to let your child’s teacher know in advance, or return the note that will be sent home this week with your signature, indicating that your child will be absent on Friday. Thanks for your cooperation.
