2025 Club Championship Team Selection Guide for Affiliated Clubs

This guide is intended as a companion
to the full eligibility rules linked at the bottom of this document. It has been created to assist clubs in their selection process, but we expect Clubs and teams to read the full rules to ensure they qualify to participate before registering teams for competition.

All players, including alternates/substitutes/replacements must be members of the same club, paying a full league fee and playing regularly in at least one league during the calendar year of the championship, but not necessarily in the same league, or on the same team, as each other. All players must be bonafide residents within the geographical area of Curling Ontario. Note: residency exemptions may be granted if a player moved from one province / territory to another in the off season between events.

A minimum of three (3) players must be a minimum of nineteen (19) years of age or over as of June 30th immediately prior to the national championships. For specific rules regarding teams with minors, please see the full eligibility rules document linked at the bottom of this page.

Clubs may determine two championship teams per gender however they may choose, but we recommend following one of these processes:

  1. A special event, such as a championship bonspiel, to determine your Curling Club champions for your club that is not part of your formal club championships, or;
  2. Regular club league play, or;
  3. A formal club championship process.

Each four-person team is allowed to have one (1) player who, during the previous three (3) curling seasons, that has participated in the following events, Canadian Championships or any provincial / territorial event leading to these events:

  • Canadian U-20 Four-Person
  • Canadian Colleges Association Curling Championships
  • Canadian USPORTS Curling Championships
  • Canadian Mixed Doubles National Championships
  • Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Trials
  • Tournament of Hearts
  • Brier
  • Canadian Curling Pre-Trials
  • Canadian Curling Trials
  • The Grand Slam of Curling Tier 1 or Tier 2
  • Pan-Continental Curling Championships

Definition of the curling seasons is defined as follows:

If you are not the ‘one’ player using the competitive athlete exemption above, you and/or the other three players and any 5th players and any spares may have competed in any provincial / territorial championship and still be allowed to play in the Curling Club Championships, as long as you have not qualified for the playoffs in the men’s, women’s, junior,

senior, or mixed doubles provincial championships. This does not include the U21 mixed doubles.

Competitors (as individuals or as a team) who competed in the previous season’s national Curling Club Championships are ineligible to compete the following season at any level including as 5th players or spares.

For specific rules regarding these players please review the Full Curling Canada Eligibility Rules.
