January 28, 2019
Dear Parent or Guardian,
The Horizon Science Academy Columbus High School College Counseling Department would like to invite you to a meeting that will take place on February 13, 2019 at 6:00 PM at the High School in the upper commons (light refreshments will be provided). If you have a student who will be in grades 7-12 next school year, and they are interested in participating in the College Credit Plus Program, you and your child must attend this informational meeting. The high school college counselors will present information on College Credit Plus deadlines, requirements for admission and rules for participation in the program. It is very important that you attend so that you can determine if CCP is right for your student.
In order to participate in CCP courses, each student MUST turn in a Letter of Intent to Participate in College Credit Plus to his or her College Counselor by April 1, 2019. Turning in the Letter of Intent does not obligate the students to participate in the program if they change their minds, but is the first important step students must complete to help the school determine eligibility for CCP program participation.
For more information on College Credit Plus please go to the Ohio Department of Higher Education Website:
Feel free to contact the College Counseling Department if you have questions about the College Credit Plus program. We look forward to seeing you on February 13th!

General Information About College Credit Plus
The College Credit Plus program (CCP) offers qualified high school students onsite access to directly transcripted credit via dual credit. Students passing CCP classes will receive both high school and college credit for the course at no cost and without taking an exit exam. Students may enroll in courses at local college campuses or in a limited number of classes offered at the high school campus. Classes may be taught by college faculty or HSA faculty with the appropriate backgrounds in their graduate studies.
Successful completion of coursework in the CCP program will earn students college credit that is accepted by all of Ohio’s universities and colleges and many out-of-state and private institutions. Location, manner of delivery, and scheduling of courses may vary. These are not high school courses – these are college courses offered for concurrent high school credit. Parents and students should expect differences in process and plan accordingly.
Our locally-offered CCP courses, which are available onsite within the high school, are done so in partnership with Columbus State Community College. Students interested in any onsite CCP courses should consider applying to the colleges now. Both are online and free – be sure to read all instructions and to indicate you are interested in being a CCP student, and that you are still in high school.
