Chromebook Troubleshooting

Won’t turn on

  1. Plug in the charger.
  2. Press REFRESH  + POWER
  3. Shut the screen and open back up after 10 seconds.

Charging issues

  1. Newer Chromebooks have two ports capable of charging the device. Try both ports. If you only have one port, or this did not resolve the issue, move to step 2.
  2. Press REFRESH  + POWER  
  3. Check to see if their charger works (hover over battery with cursor & see if % changes over time)

Wifi/ Internet Connection Issues - Can’t Connect to the Internet

  1. Open the Chrome browser and
  2. Select the apps (waffle)
  3. Select BYOD Enrollment
  4. Follow the prompts - remove any other certificates

Computer is on but the screen is dark

  1. Check that the student hasn’t adjusted the screen brightness in Settings
  2. Press REFRESH+POWER at the same time.
  3. If that doesn’t work, shut down and restart the device.

Computer screen is upside down or at a right angle

  1. Students do this by clicking on CTRL+SHIFT+REFRESH
  2. To return screen to normal, click on CTRL+ALT- <- (above the 1 key)

Chrome is running very slowly

  1. Make sure there aren’t too many open tabs or extensions running in Chrome
  2. Make sure Chrome is up to date. Do this by scrolling over your Chrome profile picture. If there is a system update needed, it will appear with an arrow next to it and ask that you install and restart Chrome.
  3. Make sure the student is connected to BYOD versus Guest or cb-student wifi

Computer keyboard is on INTL or EXTD

  1. Have the student login to their chromebook device
  2. Press SHIFT+CTRL+SPACEBAR simultaneously until the device reads US

I don’t have my Clever badge, or my camera isn’t working to scan it

My camera isn’t working in Google Meet

Meet needs permission to use your camera and microphone in Chrome. You will be asked to allow access the first time you join a Meet video meeting.

You can change the setting to allow Meet to use your camera and microphone, click on the camera icon "" in the address bar and select the Always allow option.

Make sure no other apps currently access your camera.

you must allow the browser to access your camera.

  1. Enter chrome://settings/content/camera in the Chrome address bar.
  2. Disable the setting "Ask before accessing."
  3. Under "Allow," delete if present.
  4. Refresh the Google Meet page and grant camera access when prompted.
