SUMMARY TEACHER’S REPORT OF ACTIVITY 3
This activity relates to Sustainable Development Goals 1, 4, and 8. It centers around empowering the students of a partner school with relevant 21st century skills that could be used while in school and even beyond school life to stay afloat in any economic situation that may arise.
The aims of the activity are:
The entire activity had three categories and each category was to be carried out by a group of Dansol students who served as facilitators with teachers attached to them as supervisors.
As part of the school’s commitment to imbibing the ideals of social responsibility, the students of Dansol High School partnered with a local school, Jerare Summit School, Ogba to carry out this activity.
The categories of the activity are:
The duration of the activity was seven (7) to eight (8) weeks. Dansol High School students served as instructors to the partner school, Jerare Summit, to foster peer learning and collaborative skills. Teachers in charge served as guides to both the instructors and the learners facilitating hands-on skills training in web development, video editing and data analytics.
The Data Analytics skill taught to the partner school is geared towards helping each child solve any data-based challenges in the nearest future as organisations and the labour force at large would always have a need for data records. Web Development helps an individual have a distinct online site, for information to be stored and viewed by all and sundry. While video editing will enable humans to capture and create beautiful memories that could be relished and relived.
Towards the end of the learning time frame, assessments were given by the instructors - Dansol High School students - to the learners, Jerare Summit School students. This was done to ascertain that learning had taken place and the goal for empowerment had been achieved. The instructors and the supervising teachers appraised the efforts of the students from Jerare Summit as can be seen from the video below.
Activity 3 was concluded with a grand finale visit to Jerare summit school where the all participants including Dansol students and Jerare summit students were appreciated by the coordinator of the activity (Mrs. Okeke Evelyn) and other supervising teachers. Certificates were presented to participants. Jerare Summit website developed by Dansol students, a step to further demonstrate the importance of social responsibility, was launched as part of the occasion.
Also, to empower Jerare Summit students to keep practicing the skills they had learnt, two HP laptops were gifted to Jerare Summit school by the activity 3 team.
Students of the two schools shared their experiences of the whole process. The principal and teachers of Jerare Summit Secondary School expressed their appreciation.
The team (of instructors and supervisors) gave a report to the Dansol High School community at a school gathering highlighting the gains of the activity.
