ISA GLOBAL WARMING NARRATIVE
Activity Seven centres around Sustainable Development Goals 3, 6, 7, 11, and 13. It focuses on educating students and the school community about the causes and effects of global warming and climate change in our local (i.e., Nigeria) and global ecosystems. Two countries, Brazil and India, are selected for a case study.
The students involved in this activity conducted online and physical research to gather information that would help foster their knowledge about the impact of global warming and climate change. This included sustainable practices that can mitigate these effects, as well as the role of government and the policies that can help ensure a safer ecosystem.
The students conducted their physical research by visiting the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA). There, specialists educated them on the active roles the Lagos State government is playing to fight against actions that contribute to global warming and climate change, such as improper domestic and industrial waste disposal and the release of greenhouse gases (GHGs). The students also toured the agency's labs, where several environmental protection tests are being conducted.
Dansol High School students, Nigeria, collaborated with students from Silas International School in India via a Zoom meeting. Together, they shared and exchanged ideas and findings about the impact of global warming and climate change on both Nigeria and India.
A school-wide sensitization program was held in the school hall, where some of the students attached to activity 7 shared information, they had gathered with the school community in order to enhance students' and members of staff’s sense of environmental responsibility and personal agency, ultimately helping to mitigate the effects of global warming and climate change in the future.
To promote a culture of environmental sustainability in the school, mini-solar floodlights were installed in the school’s basketball court and geographic garden.
