Participant Guide: Another Saturday Night

We are thrilled that you’re joining us for Another Saturday Night!

Live! Guest instructions

Congratulations! You’ve been invited to join the B’ShERT broadcast as a guest. We’re using the Streamyard platform for our event. Follow this guide and you’ll be setting yourself up for a great evening. We will share the broadcast link a few days before the event.

We will be hosting “drop-in” rehearsals for everyone to get comfortable with StreamYard ahead of time. Tuesday 6/2 and Thursday 6/4 from 6 to 8 pm. We’ll also share your time slots for joining the broadcast.

Please do let us know if you want any special introductions, biographical notes or anything else that the hosts can share!

Before the broadcast

Make sure you have the following:

• A laptop or desktop computer with a webcam and mic
• A recent version of Chrome or Firefox.
• A strong internet connection. Just like Skype or Zoom, you must have a strong internet connection for Streamyard to work well. If possible, connect your computer to your router with an Ethernet cable instead of using WiFi.
• We recommend wearing earbuds or headphones to prevent audio echoes, and if you have an external microphone that certainly helps too.
• If you don’t have a laptop or desktop, then you can join on your phone or iPad, but a computer will generally be best if possible.

Joining the broadcast

When the time comes, follow these steps to enter the broadcast studio:

1. We’re inviting you to the Green Room (backstage) via Google Meet here. Please join in ahead of time.
2. Once in the green room, you’ll be sent to the Stream stage when it’s your turn. Click the link and you’ll be taken to the broadcast studio. Be sure to close the Green Room browser tab so you don’t get feedback.
3. Allow StreamYard to access your camera and mic.
4. Make sure you have the correct camera and mic selected.
5. Important audio tip for musicians — when performing live, make sure a) you mute your laptop or wear headphones, and b) DISABLE audio processing with the checkbox seen here in the cam/mic settings.
6. Enter a display name. Use your actual name or the name of your act/family. Then enter the studio.
7. The hosts will be informed that you’ve arrived. You won’t be part of the broadcast until it’s time to add you in. The page will update to let you know when you’ve been added. Then everyone will be able to see and hear you. This is your time to shine!

Recording

Not planning to join us live, or just want a backup in case of problems? No worries! Just record yourself with your phone, computer or digital camera & send in the resulting video. We can handle almost any video format — upload to https://bit.ly/bshert-video-upload or email tech@bshert.org + pam.glantzman@bshert.org and we’ll take it from there.

Make sure your video is:

• Well lit
• Clearly audible
• Not shaky or blurry
• 5 min or less in duration
• Please record in landscape (horizontal) format!

You don’t need to introduce yourself at the top — our hosts will take care of that — but please do let us know if you want any special introductions, biographical notes or anything else that the hosts can share!
