Welcome to RoshanOS 3 Qalandar

Welcome to your new operating system RoshanOS. This welcome screen will guide you how to use RoshanOS. I would like to thank you for choosing RoshanOS as your operating system. I hope you’ll enjoy it. Don’t hesitate to contact me (info at the bottom) in case of any issue. Good luck & have a great time.

It’s based on MX/Debian Linux, so most things will also work on RoshanOS 3.

  1. Create live USB/DVD from ISO file

Download the ISO file from eSite.pk or SourceForge.net.

Download Rufus software for creating live USB. I have tested it on the Windows 10+ & it was working fine. Rufus might ask you to download a few components from the internet. "DD Image mode" worked fine on Windows 7, it may also work on Windows XP. You may also try other live USB creation software. Etcher and Ventoy worked fine on my MX-CP/RoshanOS 2.0 Linux. Etcher and Ventoy, both are cross platform tools, so they would work on Windows & macOS.

For DVDs, you may use ImgBurn or similar software.

For trying live USB/DVD/ISO

After boot, you may check a quick introduction, use tryouts/advanced or install RoshanOS on your computer.

  1. Quick Introduction

Look at the interface screenshot:

  1. Desktop

Above screenshot is a desktop/workspace. RoshanOS contains 9 workspaces for flexibility. You can switch workspaces with its icon, next to the power button on the right side of the top panel.

You can switch workspaces by moving your mouse to the top right corner of the screen. You can also use shortcut: Ctrl + Win/super key and arrow keys.

  1. Start Menu

On the top left is the start menu. Start menu contains a list of application icons organized into categories.

You can also search & execute apps. Click on the top left icon to open the start menu. Or move your mouse to the top left corner of the screen. You can also use a shortcut: Win/super key.

  1. Taskbar

Top screen panel is a taskbar. It contains a start menu, quick app list and/or list of apps running, current app menu, power button, workspaces, few system/status icons and the clock time.

  1. Application Menu

Application menu is also shown on the taskbar as seen in the above screenshot at the center and before the power button.

  1. Background

Background is an image used on the desktop. Background image changes daily automatically along with a few colors i.e title bar, selected item, etc.

  1. Screen Corners & Sides

Screen corners & sides are not useless in RoshanOS. Let's discuss them in detail because they do something special. What you need to do is keep your mouse at the corners or sides and push it in that direction i.e move your mouse at the top left corner & keep moving it in that direction. Repeating this will reverse the current action i.e start menu will be closed.

Note: you can also disable these behaviors from “Screen Edges” in the system settings.

It minimizes/restores all running apps.

  1. Top Side

It contains a taskbar, so we do not attach any mouse action there.

  1. Left Side

  1. Right Side

For example if Google Chrome is running on the desktop/workspace # 1 and it’s also running on the desktop/workspace # 9. Then it will just show two screenshots of Google chrome. Clicking on any screenshot will move your control there.

  1. Bottom Side

Now you are familiar with the basic interface elements, so now you can use tryouts.
