Students entering Geometry should have a solid Algebra 1 background.

 

Course Description: Topics covered include the language of geometry (points, lines, planes and angles), reasoning and proofs (paragraph, two columns, flow, indirect, and coordinate), parallel and perpendicular lines, congruent triangles, applications of congruent triangles, similarity, coordinate geometry, and transformations.

Course Objectives: Students will acquire and demonstrate knowledge of concepts, definitions, properties, and applications of the topics listed above as well as develop the computational skills and strategies needed to solve problems. Students will develop critical thinking and decision-making skills by connecting concepts to practical applications.

Materials Needed for the Course:

Textbook- Geometry by McDougall

Composition Notebook – for given notes and examples

Three-ring binder/any binder – for assignments and handouts

Pencil

Lined paper

Scientific or graphing calculator

Grading Policy: Grades are cumulative through the end of each semester and will be based only on personal effort and performance, not desire or potential. Updated grade reports will be posted on the Q-Shell on a daily basis so students may continually monitor their progress. Student performance will be assessed in five areas:

                   Grade scale is as follows:

A = 90%

B = 80%

C = 70%

D = 60 %

Homework: Homework will be checked daily. Keep assignments neatly written and organized in your notebook. The assignment should be clearly written at the top of the page. Showing work is imperative!!! NO WORK NO CREDIT!!! Reduced credit will be given for late assignments and incomplete assignments. I will accept for partial credit late assignments until a chapter test. I will not accept assignments after chapter test, and the assignment/s will be marked as missing.

 

 

Notebook: will be graded after each chapter to determine if the student engage in class activities. If the student is absent during the class, hard copy of missing notes and worksheet/s will be given when the student returns. Notebook will be allowed to use during quizzes and during the Final Tests.

 

Chapter Tests and Semester Exams: A comprehensive test to measure students’ mastery of skills and concepts will be given at the end of each chapter. Students will be informed of the scheduled test date at least a week in advance. The concepts and skills being evaluated will usually be reviewed the day before the test. Notebook will be allowed to use during quizzes and semester exams.

 

Class Rules and Expectations:

1.         Attendance is of utmost importance.  Try very hard not to miss class.

2.         Be prompt for class and be ready to start immediately.

3.         Always bring all of the materials that you need to class.

4.         Sharpen your pencils before class begins.

5.         Strive to maintain a positive attitude.

6.         Be attentive in class and take good notes.  Cooperate and participate fully in class activities and work.

7.         Use class time wisely.

8.         Always do your homework assignments.  Effort should be shown on all problems.

9.         Ask questions when you do not understand.

10.  Do not get behind in your work.  As always this math course is cumulative.

11.  Food is not allowed in the class, only water bottle.

12. Cellphone is not allowed in the class.
