Parent Involvement Plan

2017-2018

A child has the best opportunity to achieve in all areas of development, when good communication and positive relationships are established between the parent and other adults, who work with the child in the school and community settings.  The following policy is developed to foster parent, school, and community involvement with all students served in the school population.

  1. A Cedar Grove Middle School Compact will be signed and implemented between the student, parent, teacher and principal to address school expectations for academics and behavior.
  2. Parents are expected to visit their child’s teacher throughout the year to observe progress being made during each 9 week grading period.
  3. Parents will receive progress reports every three weeks on the student’s progress.  Teacher made assessments, nationally standardized test, unit assessments, and formal state testing instruments will be used to assess proficiency at all grade levels.
  4. Report cards will be sent home on a 9 week schedule with a mid-term progress report every 3 weeks to monitor student progress.
  5. Parents are encouraged and invited to volunteer in this school, as trained tutors, or in other capacities to assist the school with special projects and activities.
  6. Parent conferences can and will be scheduled throughout the year, including extended times, to accommodate parent work schedules.
  7. Parent meetings, workshops, and other special events and celebrations will be scheduled throughout the year.  Notices will be sent prior to the event.  Opportunities for the participation of parents with limited English proficiency or with disabilities will be provided on an as needed basis.
  8. Connect-ED calling system will be used to update parents of school related events, sports events and parent conference times.  This will provide parents with information about school programs, sports, and as well as, tips for parents to help children succeed.

  10. The Parent Facilitator & Guidance Dept.  will organize a parent resource area to provide parents with resources when making decisions about child behavior problems, tips for helping your child succeed and resolving family conflicts.  These resources will be available during school hours and by appointment after hours.
  11. The CGMS administration sponsors an annual Family SMART night to invite parents to interact with student made projects along with teacher parent communication.
  12. Scheduled PTO and PAC meetings will be held at CGMS every 9 weeks.
