COMPUTER SETUP

DOWNLOAD COMPONENTS

  1. Download Forefront Livestream Template ZIP
  1. Graphics: These are the images that will be used during the stream
  2. OBS Files: These are the settings to configure the correct streaming outputs
  3. Scenes: These are the default windows and sources used for the stream
  1. Download NDI Tools for Return Feed 
  1. You’ll be using this to set up Skype participants as sources in OBS

CONFIGURE OBS

  1. Always use ethernet connection via USB
  2. Start OBS software
  3. Gather all Video/Audio/Image assets
  4. Add video source
  1. Add a new "video capture device” using the “+” button to at the bottom left
  2. Select “U-TAP” as your source
  3. OBS will display live camera feed (if no display, report to Technical Director)
  1. Add audio source
  1. Add a new “audio input capture” using the “+” button to at the bottom left
  2. Select “U-TAP” as your source
  3. OBS will display live audio feed (if no audio, report to Technical Director)
  1. Create scenes (camera shoots at 1920x1080)
  1. Create primary scene
  1. Set canvas resolution to 1280x720
  2. Frame camera to show full stage
  1. Create secondary scene
  1. Set canvas resolution to 1280x720
  2. Duplicate scene in bottom left of window
  3. Scale second scene to a tight shot with red handles
  1. Lock NDI source window size
  1. Right click the source in the layout editor and choose filter, apply the scaling / aspect ratio filter and choose the res to match your broadcast, you can still resize however you want using handles in the layout editor to get the scene to look the way you want, but the stream holds and does not scale / resize itself at all.
  1. AUDIO GUIDELINES
  1. STAY UNMUTED AT ALL TIMES TO PROVIDE AUDIO COUNTDOWNS AND MEDIA PLAYBACK CUES (YOU WILL NEVER BE HEARD ON THE LIVESTREAM UNLESS YOU ARE MANUALLY ADDED AS AN NDI SOURCE IN OBS)
  2. KEEP ALL MEDIA IN OBS ON “MONITOR AND OUTPUT”
  3. KEEP ALL NDI SOURCES ON “MONITOR OFF”
  4. If there are multiple NDI sources in a single scene (multiple people talking at once) you must mute all but ONE of the NDI sources (go with the first one to make it easy) and that will combine all skype audio into that source, and you’re done.
  1. Review all settings and preferences after importing profile/scenes

CONFIGURE SKYPE

  1. Download Skype and log in
  2. Configure NDI in Skype
  1. On desktop app, go to “Settings > Calling > Advanced” and make sure that “Allow NDI Usage” is checked
  2. Adjust Skype Watermark to “Bottom right corner”
  1. Create Return Feed to show participants live stream
  1. In Skype, make sure the “OBS Return Feed” (or similar) option is selected for your camera. You should see the same image (mirrored) as what is in the program window in OBS
  1. Minimize Skype for improved performance
  1. Once settings are good for each participant, minimize the window to reduce the overhead on your system.
  2. If computer is still sluggish (and the “CPU” percentage at the bottom of the OBS window is >70%), close the additional popup window that Skype created when you minimized the full window.”

LIVE SERVICE

 

PRE-PRODUCTION

SET UP CAMERA

  1. Get AV Livestream Hard Case from the van
  2. Connect the LCD interface to the camera with cold shoe mount and 2 extension cables
  3. Connect the lens to the camera (24-105mm)
  4. Connect tripod plate to the camera using either a 1/4”-20 or a 3/8”-16 screw
  5. Mount camera on the tripod
  6. Connect camera power cable to camera and power outlet
  7. Connect Red/Blue XLR cables from the board to the XLR inputs on the LCD interface
  8. Connect one end of SDI cable to the camera at the HD-SDI port
  9. Connect other end of SDI cable to the AJA U-Tap
  10. Connect AJA U-Tap to laptop via USB cable
  11. Turn on the camera (dial on left side)

ADJUST SETTINGS

  1. Review Camera Front and Camera Back
  2. Set audio levels
  1. Left and Right settings should be set exactly the same
  2. Confirm Roulette engineer is sending audio to XLR cables
  3. Set switches to “line” level and “M” (manual) for each channel
  4. Adjust input dials on top of the interface (Level 5 is usually appropriate)
  1. Set zoom and focus
  1. Turn the zoom ring (closer to camera) and focus ring (at the end of the lens) until zoom and focus are set. Use the “Magn.” button on the side of the camera to help set focus.
  1. Set exposure
  1. Use the Aperture with dial on side of camera
  2. Use the buttons if settings are still not satisfactory
  1. Press the “Func” button on the back of the camera below the viewfinder until “F#.#” is highlighted in orange on the LCD
  2. Use the joystick below the button to adjust aperture
  3. If it is still too dark when the aperture reads “F4.0”, hit the “Func” button again until the "ISO###” is highlighted, and adjust up or down as needed using the joystick or dial.
  1. Review all OBS scenes and sources to confirm video and audio

PRODUCTION

STREAM FIRST SERVICE

  1. When service begins, click the “Start Streaming” button
  2. Transition scenes as necessary
  3. Operate manual panning/focus as necessary
  4. After benediction, click the “End Stream” and “End Recording” buttons

STREAM SECOND SERVICE

  1. When service begins, click the “Start Streaming” button
  2. Transition scenes as necessary
  3. Operate manual panning/focus as necessary
  4. After benediction, click the “End Stream” and “End Recording” buttons

POST-PRODUCTION

PACK UP GEAR

  1. Turn off camera
  2. Turn off laptop
  3. Pack up laptop
  1. Unplug cables and pack laptop and charge in sleeve
  2. Return laptop to hard case
  1. Pack up U-TAP
  1. Disconnect U-TAP, USB cable, and power cable and return to hard case
  2. Unscrew SDI cable, wind cable in a loop, and return to hard cse
  1. Pack up camera
  1. Disconnect XLR cables and return to Roulette engineer
  2. Remove camera from tripod
  3. Disconnect bottom plate from camera and pack in hard case
  4. Disconnect LCD interface and pack in hard case
  5. Disconnect lens, replace lens covers on camera and lens, and pack in hard case
  6. Pack camera in hard case

LOAD VAN

  1. Return AV Livestream Producer hard case to Teardown Team to load in van
  2. Go home!
