Kindergarten Supply List

Please make sure your child’s name is on the items listed below.
(label with permanent marker):
- Large backpack (no wheels)
- Beach Towel (NO REST MATS, THEY ARE TOO BIG)– for rest time- (towel will be sent home occasionally for washing)
- A change of clothes in a gallon Ziploc bag – label clothes tags and bag with child’s name (these will remain in cubbies unless needed- when soiled clothes are sent home, please replace items)
- Water Bottle (NO GLASS, well-sealed, drip, and spill-proof) Be sure your child can open it, fill it, and close it INDEPENDENTLY.
Please do not write your child’s name on the items listed below.
They will be placed in a community box, for all kids.
- 4 Boxes of Crayola crayons –(16 or 24 count)
- 6 glue sticks
- 1 box of Crayola markers (regular colors)
- 12 Sharpened Pencils (Ticonderoga are best)
- 8 black Expo dry-erase markers (NO COLORED PLEASE)
- 2 boxes of tissues
- 1 Pencil Box
- 2 Containers of PlayDough
- 1 Box of Gallon Ziplock Bags
- 1 Box of Quart Ziplock Bags
- 1 package of baby wipes
If you would like to “gift” our classroom with any of the following items, it would be appreciated.
- Clorox Wipes
- Hand Sanitizer (8 oz or 16 oz please)
- Extra box of snacks ( ex: a box of cereal, goldfish, pretzels)

The Temple School Kindergarten Curriculum is based on the following expectations beginning PRIOR to Kindergarten:
- recite nursery rhymes
- identify body parts
- know left and right
- know and follow direction words (i.e. over, below, behind, etc.)
- follow 2 step directions
- put a 10-20 piece puzzle together
- recognize first and last names
- write their first name
- know shapes
- know colors
- tie shoes
- repeat a rhythmic pattern of 3 (slap, snap, clap...)
- the correct way to hold a pencil/crayon/scissors
- recognize ABCs in random order
- recognize numbers 0-10 in random order
- sit quietly for a story for 10 minutes
- zip and button

- experience with coloring and cutting
- able to hold a book correctly
- distinguish between print and picture
- Help your child learn their sight words!

- Create and use flashcards
- Practice writing words in sand or salt on a paper plate
- Practice “building” sight words using Legos, bathroom cups, popsicle sticks, and or blocks
- Play memory with words written on popsicle sticks, index cards, plastic spoons, etc.
- Practice making words with magnetic letters
- Write the sight words on index cards and place them all over your house (have your child name them when he/she enters a room, before bedtime, etc.)
- Save your milk, juice, or water bottle caps and write their sight words on the caps
- Use egg cartons and plastic eggs to match sight words
- Make sight word puzzles
- Write the sight words on ping pong balls and play “catch” (i.e. throw me “for”)
- Put chocolate pudding or paint in a Ziploc bag (seal it tight) and have your child practice making words.
- Find an old“Twister Game” and instead of playing the game the traditional way, write sightwords on the colored circles and instead of calling out colors, call out sight words.
- Write sight words on a variety of objects and allow children to “discover” objects and read words
- Create a“rock garden”. Collect rocks around your house and write sight words on them
- Use sidewalk chalk and practice writing the words all over the sidewalk
- Write sight words in permanent marker on rubber ducks and practice sight words in the bathtub
- Use any old games you have lying around (Don’t Break the Ice, Jenga, CandyLand) and turn them into a sight word game.
- Practice reading sight words everywhere and anywhere! Practice in the car, look at magazines or newspapers, read cereal boxes, find sight words at the store or in books.
- Practice writing sight words!
