‘Preparing each child for their future in an ever-changing world’

Please remember to look at the Class Pages for topic webs and class letters

NEWSLETTER 17                                                                                        3rd June 2019

Dear families

Welcome back to the final term of this academic year!  We can’t believe how quickly this year has gone.  I hope you and your family had a very happy and restful bank holiday weekend and half-term break.  We are looking forward to a seven-and-a-half-week summer term with (hopefully!) gorgeous weather and lots of exciting learning opportunities.

Thank you for your support with our Ofsted inspection in the last week of last term; we were very proud of the children and staff on the day.  We are waiting for the report and this will be sent to you as soon as we receive the final version.

Congratulations to Year 6 for a fab residential trip to Yenworthy.  Mrs Dobson was super proud of the way the children conducted themselves during the week. They were polite and enthusiastic and threw themselves wholeheartedly into all tasks - they were a real pleasure to take away.

Class letters and topic webs will be available on the Class Pages later this week.  Please check here for information about this term but as always, do pop and see your child’s class teacher if there is anything you would like to discuss or are unsure about.

Best wishes

Mrs Lewis

Attendance, Appointments and Holidays

We continue to do our termly attendance monitoring of every pupil.  Average attendance is 97% however, if attendance falls below 95% it is monitored more closely by the school.  Very rarely, it might fall below 90% - there needs to be a good reason for this level of absence otherwise the school will need to set up an agreement with parents to raise attendance to better levels.

Please note that no holidays will be authorised in term time except for in exceptional circumstances.   An absence request form can be obtained from the school office and must be completed for all absences.

Please also note that if you have an appointment planned for you child, such as a medical appointment, the most effective way to tell us is via the school office.  The office organise registers every day and act on all absence, they also relay the information back to the class teacher.  If there is a situation where medical treatment will be prolonged, we must see evidence in writing from the provider.  This is local authority guidance which ensures schools can confidently account for the whereabouts of any child who is absent for a longer period.

County Lines

This is often in the news, and although you may think that your children are safe from any form of exploitation it is important to understand the risks and challenges young people are facing. You will all be interested in this Oxfordshire County Council video about County Lines, but if you have older children in secondary school, or children in Years 5 and 6 it is essential viewing! You may even want to watch it with your child.

Pyjama Day

We’ve got the perfect opportunity to spend the day in your favourite comfy pyjamas whilst raising money for a good cause this June. On Friday 21st June, we would like all children to wear their best pyjamas for the day, whilst raising money for Helen and Douglas House who support local families with terminally ill children. Hagbourne Preschool are working hard to raise money to support Helen and Douglas House this term so all contributions collected on this day will go towards their fundraising.

Battery Recycling

Thank you to all those who have been busy collecting batteries for recycling.  This is the last week for collection so please bring your boxes in by Friday 7th June.

We are so pleased to hear that lots of children are enjoying the Readathon challenge.  Please continue with your reading and collecting of sponsorship money then send your forms in to the office once completed.  Thank you!

Save the Date

On Tuesday 11th June there will be a parent workshop from 6 - 7:30pm looking at ways to support your children with wellbeing. Please check ParentMail for more information.

Medical Updates

Please can we ask parents to let us know if your child was injured or particularly unwell over the weekend.  If we are aware of any injuries we can be best prepared to follow up as needed.

We are working hard with the children to ensure that they are ready for school.  Please ensure all children are wearing the correct uniform, including black school shoes, everyday and have the correct equipment needed.  Please remember that the only jewellery permitted is a wrist watch and stud earrings.  Hair accessories should also be suitable for school.  It is also essential that all children have their full named PE kit in school every day.

Previous Reminders (a space for prior notices for easy access!)

Medical Updates

If there have been any changes or updates to your child’s medical needs, including medications and allergies, please ensure that you inform the school and fill out the relevant forms.  If your child has an inhaler or epipen in school please check the medication is in date!

Please also remember we are a nut and sesame seed free school, can we ask that you do not send your children in with any nut product - this includes Nutella and Peanut butter.

RM Unify

Remember all children have a log in to RM Unify (which can be found in their reading record or homework diary).  Please use these websites to support your child’s learning at home.  RM Unify can be accessed via the Pupil Area on the school website or via the following link https://hagbourneschool.rmunify.com/.  Children in Key Stage 2 now also have access to Times Tables Rockstars to support them with learning their times tables.

Car Park

Please could we ask that only Blue Badge holders park in the disabled spaces in the village hall.  Please also take care not to block these spaces in.  We do have families in our own school who need to use these spaces and they may also be needed by Blue Badge holders from the wider community.  If this continues to be an issue, we will ask the local PCSOs to monitor the situation.

Lunch Menu

Please see here for next terms menu, remember to log onto Live Kitchen and select school lunches.

These are not recommended by the school but maybe of some interest to you.
