Events/Activities

• The broken sections of bleachers in the high school gymnasium were repaired on 4/28
• A speaker was purchased for the Baseball/Softball field so that each home contest will have the ability to play the national anthem and announce the pre-game CIAC sportsmanship statement. I Met with IT and a company on 5/2 for a more permanent option of a sound system at Payden Park for next spring
• 2 middle school baseball and 2 middle school softball games have been moved to Payden park (4/27 Baseball, 5/2 Softball, 5/4 Baseball, 5/18 Softball). I will be looking at the schedules in the winter next year to see if we can play more of the middle school games there next spring
• Spring sports are just over halfway completed with their regular season
• Outdoor Track & Field Senior night 5/1, Softball Senior Night 5/16, Baseball Senior Night 5/17
• I will be attending my first NVL AD meeting on 5/4
• 12th Annual PINK OUT softball and baseball games with Ansonia will be happening on 5/6 . Baseball at 12pm and Softball at 5pm
• End of season celebration and recognition for DHS winter sports is happening on 5/3

I would like to introduce you to our first ever Head Girls Volleyball Coach at Derby High School, Mr. Josh Dydyn, who is joining us tonight on Zoom. Josh is a very familiar face within the Derby Public School system. He was the 2023 District teacher of the year and has been the physical education teacher here at DMS since 2018.. He has 9 years of coaching experience which includes last year as the girls volleyball club coach, dms unified sports coach since 2021, the DMS head girls basketball coach since 2018 and he just completed his first year as head boys volleyball coach at Oxford high school this spring. Josh has been married to his wife Nicole for just over a year and they are expecting a little girl in early November, just after the girls volleyball regular season is scheduled to wrap up. I am very excited to work with Josh. Congratulations Josh Dydyn.
