Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a framework proven to reduce disciplinary incidents, increase a school's sense of safety and support improved academic outcomes.
Doerun Elementary is committed to implementing the PBIS program and uses the DEER acronym to remind students of their responsibility while at school.
D - I will Do my best.
E - I will be Engaged.
E - I will make sure Everyone is safe
R - I will be Respectful
“Deer Bucks" are passed out by all teachers and are used for positive behavior reinforcement. Students may spend their bucks once a month in the PBIS store or save them for later use.
Dear Parents,
We are pleased to welcome you and your child to Doerun Elementary School. The 2024-2025 school year looks to be most productive and exciting. The Doerun faculty and staff recognize that all students are unique individuals. It is our mission to provide a school environment that will meet the educational, social, emotional, and physical needs of each Doerun student. Hard work, devotion, and cooperation among faculty, staff, students, parents, and the community will ensure the success of all children in our school.
Please take a few minutes to read the following policies and procedures. The following procedures and policies are additions to our county policies and are specific to Doerun Elementary School. Please contact the school office at 782-5276, if we can help you with any questions or concerns.
SCHOOL HOURS: Our school day instruction begins at 7:40 a.m. and ends at 2:35 p.m. (Student tardiness and early afternoon pick-up interrupts instruction and is highly discouraged).
CAR RIDERS: MORNING: Car riders should be dropped off at the double doors of the lower grades building next to Doerun Road. Please remember that NO child should be on the campus before 7:15 a.m. each day.
GO HOME CHANGES: Parents must write a note to the student’s teacher or notify the front office by 2:00 p.m.
if there is a change for afternoon transportation for a student.
EARLY AFTERNOON PICK-UP: If a student must leave school early, his/her parent will need to sign them out in the office. The student will be called to the office for dismissal and released to the parent. Picking students up after 2:00 will not be allowed.
AFTER SCHOOL: After-school car riders must be picked up in the cafeteria parking lot beginning at 2:35 p.m. All car riders will wait on the sidewalk until their parents arrive. All car riders should be picked up by 2:45 p.m. Any student who is not picked up by 2:45 must be registered for Primetime. Primetime is available from 2:35-6:00 p.m. each day.
CLASS PARTIES: Class parties will correspond with Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and Easter. These parties are planned for the last hour of the day and will be coordinated through the classroom teachers. Parties are planned for the students in the classes to enjoy their classmates and teacher. Pre-school-age brothers and sisters may not attend class parties.
VOLUNTEERS: Parents and community members are encouraged to volunteer at our school in the classrooms or other needed areas (If approved ahead of time). Adults are welcome to help with special events at the teacher’s request. All visitors must sign in at the office and receive a visitor’s pass prior to reporting to any classroom or location on campus. All adults not signed in will be asked to do so. Since the school day should be free from distractions, special events are planned as extensions of student learning; relatives and pre-school children cannot be included in riding the bus on field trips, class parties, and class activities. Only designated chaperones will be allowed to ride the bus for class trips.
PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES: At Doerun Elementary we believe that communication between parents and teachers is vital to the success of each student. There will be three scheduled parent/teacher conferences each year. Parents will be able to meet with the teacher during these conferences and pick up their child’s report card. In order to ensure that all parents have an opportunity to attend the conferences, there will be alternate times available for parents who have unusual work schedules. If you should need an alternate time for a conference outside of the regular scheduled times please contact the teacher or the school to set a time that best suits your schedule.
