Lincoln Street School Update
Welcome to week two. This week is a gentle extension of a typical school week. Students are slowly building their stamina so they can succeed during a full five day week. So far, so good! Thank you for all of your help during this busy time of transition. We know family schedules can be hectic with fall activities starting. If you ever have questions for us, we are always a phone call away.
Instrument presentations occurred on Tuesday. Students were treated to a variety of instruments of which they can choose to learn how to play. All registration for chosen instruments is to occur online this year. Please do not return forms or personal checks.
All students will be or have already taken a beginning of the school year STAR assessment. This is a computerized and adaptive test that will provide teachers with a starting point in regard to your child’s reading and mathematical skills. We will use this information to build upon those skills in a way that is customized, or personalized, for your child. This assessment is also taken at the middle of the year and end of the year. For more information about STAR click HERE.
Whole School Assembly
The first LSS whole school assembly for students and staff will occur on Friday. This will be a great opportunity for the whole school to be together and have a shared experience. Also, students will learn how they can be a part of our school by contributing their time, passions, and talents to the various groups and clubs LSS is able to provide.
What’s Coming Up?:
Next week, on Thursday, September 14, Open House presentations begin at specific times. The schedule is as follows:
6:00-6:30 - Session 1 - Classroom Presentations
6:30-6:45 - Visit a Specialist
6:45-7:10 - Session 2 - Classroom Presentations
7:10-1:30 - Visit a Specialist
Pick a session that fits your family’s schedule. Both sessions will be the same presentation. Please be there as promptly as possible so you don't miss certain sections of the teacher's presentation.
Instrument distribution will occur immediately before Open House (from 5:30-6) for families that ordered an instrument for their child. Mrs. Periccio will be in the cafeteria to help unite each child with their ordered instrument. If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Perriccio at email@example.com.
From Mrs. Smith's 4th Grade Class for ALL LSS FAMILIES:
Dear Parents, Guardians, Families and Friends,
We hope you will join the students of Lincoln Street School as they become Heroes for Harvey and support the victims and first-responders of Hurricane Harvey. The students will be doing so in a couple of different ways. First, all students will be creating and writing thank you cards to mail directly to fire stations and police departments in the greater Houston area. The fourth graders in Mrs. Cyndy Smith’s classroom will be overseeing the completion of the cards, gathering mailing addresses, and delivering the packaged cards to the Exeter Post Office later this month. This activity will allow students to build their understanding of the importance of civic participation.
Second, Lincoln Street School will be holding a coin drive from September 11th - September 22nd. We are asking students to contribute whatever coins they can, ultimately proving the point that a little goes a long way. Together we can pool our resources and make a difference. Proceeds will be distributed evenly to the following non-profit organizations:
Houston Food Bank (www.houstonfoodbank.org)
Houston Habitat for Humanity (www.houstonhabitat.org)
Houston SPCA (www.houstonspca.org)
If you would like to include a personal donation to any of these organizations, you are welcome to send in a check made payable directly to the organization and we will include it in our mailing.
If you have any questions about these activities, please don’t hesitate to contact the school at 775-8860.
AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
We are looking forward to another great session of the After School Activities Program and we need your help! We are in the planning stages and are looking for interested adults to share their talents, hobbies and special interests with our students. The sessions will run for six (6) weeks. Small groups of children will meet with the adult enrichment leaders for one hour each week.
Some of our present programs include classes in digital photography, arts and crafts, doodling and sports. We would love to offer new classes in such subjects as Exeter history, astronomy, nature, writing, science experiments and coding. If you have an interest, hobby, or special talent we would love to have you work with our children.
Our first session will run from September 21nd to October 26th. Classes are held on Thursday afternoons from 3:00 to 4:00. If you have any questions, please call me at 775-8859. If interested, please complete the form below and return it to Lincoln Street School by Wednesday, Sept 6, 2017.
I would be interested in offering a class for the Lincoln Street After School Activities Program.
