This Week We… Math: Students complete their assessment on subtraction.
Science/ Social Studies: Briefly learn about Earth Day before it happens. Social Emotional Learning (SEL): This week we will read Here Comes the Garbage Barge by Jonah Winter. It is a true story about a town called Islip with 3,168 tons of garbage and nowhere to put it. Students will learn about accountability, responsibility, environmentalism, and community. | Next Week We Will… Math: Starting Module 5. Beginning teen numbers with the concept of “10 and some more”
Science/ Social Studies: Learning how to take care of the Earth for Earth Day. Social Emotional Learning (SEL): This week we will listen to The Proudest Blue: A Story of Hijab and Family read by the author, Ibtihaj Muhammad, in honor of National Arab American Heritage month. This is a powerful story about a young girl with an anti-bullying message. Arab Americans make up about 3.7 million members of the U.S. population. Arab immigrants came to the United States in four waves from Lebanon, Syria, and Egypt, but also from Morocco, Iraq, Jordan, Palestine, Yemen, Tunisia, Algeria, many Gulf countries, and Libya. Arab American Heritage month became a national observance in 2017.
