Cervical refers to the neck region of the spinal column, so certical spine subluxations refer to those found in the neck. Injuries of the cervical spine are common and of great variety . Often they are readily detected via radiology as visible fractures and dislocations. Normal Anatomy and Physiology The cervical spine includes two anatomically and physiologically distinct subdivisions: the lower cervical segments; the transition is at the C2-C3 level. The cervicocranium consists of the occiput, atlas , and the axis, while the lower cervical spine inc ludes the third th rough seventh vertebrae. Because anterior subluxation (hyperflexion sprain) seldom involves the cervicocranium , this description of normal anatomy and physiology will be limited to the lower cervical spine. Throughout the cervical spine, including the cervicocranium, the vertebrae are typically aligned in lordosis.
The primary indications for surgical intervention in subaxial cervical injuries include 1) Malalignment of the spine, with or without neurologic deficits; or 2) Progressive neurologic deterioration in the face of persistent compression from bone or disk fragments.
Although malalignment can be managed in the short term with traction, definitive surgical stabilization, with or without decompression, is usually required.
Anterior-column trauma may result from axial loading injuries in combination with flexion, extension, or rotational moments. Direct trauma to the cord may result in incomplete or complete spinal cord injury syndromes. Most frequently, anterior spinal cord injury is accompanied by loss of motor function and pain and temperature sensations, along with preservation of proprioception and vibratory sensation.
Chiropractors utilize therapeutic exercises to help their patient achieve total wellness. The other exceptional Farmers Market in our area is the hugely popular Dale City Farmers Market. Located in the Dale City commuter lot on Dale Blvd., behind Center Plaza Shopping on Gemini Way. The commuter lot is down hill from the Giant Food store and Padrinos Italian Restaurant located on Dale Blvd.
