About

Mini Meets

Mini Meets are FREE for competitive team members!

Level Prerequisites

Bronze

This group continues to develop technique in the four competitive strokes, starts, and turns. Training for competition is introduced at this level.

Swimmers in this level are encouraged to participate in our mini-meets! These are fun, in-house “meets” that give swimmers a chance to show-off their improved skills to parents and family members as well as a chance to try out new events without fear of disqualification.

Swimmers in this group should be able to freestyle and backstroke legally, have base knowledge of butterfly and breaststroke, dive from the side or block and have a basic knowledge of a flip turn.

Silver

This group focuses on refining technique in the four strokes, starts and turns. Training for competition is incorporated daily.

Swimmers in this level are encouraged to participate in our mini-meets to set the example for our younger swimmers. Also, these meets are a great way to practice racing!! Your body doesn't know how to race unless you practice it so come have some racing fun!

Prior competitive experience is required.  Additionally, swimmers must be able to complete a legal 200-yard IM and at least 100 yards of two strokes legally.

Gold

This group focuses on refining technique in the four strokes, with an emphasis on interval training.  Previous year in Gold group does not mean swimmer is automatically participating in the gold group.

Swimmers in this level are encouraged to participate in our mini-meets to set the example for our younger swimmers. Also, these meets are a great way to practice racing!! Your body doesn't know how to race unless you practice it so come have some racing fun!

Prior competitive experience is required.  Swimmers must be able to complete a legal 400 IM and make 10x100 Freestyle on 2:00 interval.

Platinum

This group is by coach approval only.  This group focuses on refining technique in the four strokes, with a heavy emphasis on interval training with special individualized season plan.

Swimmers in this level may feel they have “outgrown” our mini-meets. We encourage swimmers at this level to come to the mini-meets and help RUN the meets.

Prior competitive experience is required. Swimmers must be able to complete a legal 400 IM and make 10x100 freestyle on 1:30 interval.

Pre/Post HS Season

This group is for swimmers who HAVE school sponsored swim teams (South Range, Canfield,  etc).  Swimmers in this level want to train and compete USA Swimming before and after high school season is over.  This group is USA registered and encouraged to swim at USA meets pre/post HS.

Swimmers in this level may feel they have “outgrown” our mini-meets. We encourage swimmers at this level to come to the mini-meets and help our little fish get where they need to be during the meet.

Swimmers should be able to complete a legal 200-yard IM and at least 100 yards of all strokes legally. Swimmers will train with the Gold group.

Swimmers that register for USA swimming are required to attend 6 USA-Swimming sanctioned meets. There are multiple meets in the YOUNGSTOWN AREA this year and we will be hosting 5 USA meets + one HS Invitational.  There are plenty of opportunities for your child to swim locally.

Competitive Team Payment Options

All families with swimmers on the Competitive Team are required to keep a credit card on file in our system for billing ease. We DO NOT accept cash or checks. This allows our billing system to be automated so that our staff can spend the most time working with your children.   There is NO prorating for the competitive team. If you join in November, December, etc. you are still responsible for the entire season’s fees. Register early and come as much as you can for the best deal!

One-Installment Option

Payment for practice costs, USA Swimming registration, and Piranha Aquatics registration fees for the ENTIRE Short Course season are due in full at the time of registration.  A $25 late fee will be applied to your registration fees starting September 10, the day after the mandatory parent meeting.

6-Installment Option

Payment for USA swimming registration, Piranha Aquatics registration fees, and the first month’s installment of practice costs are due at the time of registration.  These charges will be billed when you register.  Starting September 10 a $25 late fee will be applied to your registration fees.  The next 5 months, beginning in October, will be your swim team practice cost installments and will automatically be billed to your credit card on file on the first of the month, starting October 1.  The last installment will be due February 1.

Competitive Team Pricing

When registering, you will be assessed USA registration fees and Piranha Aquatics registration fees on the day you register, plus your practice costs for the installment option you select (if paying in one installment).

Registration Fees are broken down as follows:

There will be no prorating of Competitive Team fees. If you start later in the season, the full payment for the season is expected. If your child plays a fall sport, we recommend signing them up and attending as many practices as possible during their fall sport to get the best value. If your child starts out in Rec and moves to Competitive, we will credit your fees accordingly.

Team Unify Registration and Payments

Volunteer Commitment and Service Points

Because we are making an effort to promote swimming in the greater Youngstown area/local level, we host multiple swim meets.  Piranha Aquatics counts on its members to volunteer their time to promote unity and to enable the club to thrive by hosting successful events.  For this reason, we require families to acquire a certain level of service points. Hosting meets also helps offset program costs to families.

Swim meets, fundraisers and other club events have specific jobs that will qualify for service points.  Jobs will be posted for each event on the Team Unify team website and will be available for selection on a first-come, first-served basis. Some jobs may be restricted to individuals with specific training and/or qualifications, but there is plenty of work to go around. There is a volunteer contract at the end of this document which you may read over.  You will digitally sign this document during registration on Team Unify.

There is an option at registration to “buy out” of your service point requirement.  A family may “buy out” of their Service Point Commitment at the beginning of the season.  If this option is not selected at the time of registration, accounts with insufficient Service Points as of March 1 will be billed $15 per point for any unfulfilled points.  Accounts must be settled prior to the end of the year banquet.

If you feel you would be unavailable to work meets and would like another job instead, please contact Coach Kristen or any member of the board.  We will gladly work with you to come up with a solution, provided an agreement is reached at the beginning of the season. We will find something you can help out with! Please do not let service points deter you.  We want to work with you!

Competitive Team Volunteer Commitment

In an effort to bring more local meets to the area, we are hosting multiple USA swim meets this year and several HS meets.   We cannot run a swim meet without many volunteers; each meet requires at least 30 volunteers per session (not including officials).

Each family with one swimmer will be required to complete a total of 20 service points per short course season. Those with more than one child in the program are required to complete a total of 30 points.  It does not matter who does the work-it can be family, friends, grandparents, etc. Many families find they can complete the majority of their service points in one meet with help from people they know.

A family may “buy out” service hours for a total of $200.00 (1 swimmer) or $300.00 (two or more swimmers) at the beginning of the season. If this option is not selected at the time of registration, accounts with insufficient service points as of March 1 will be charged at the rate of $15 per point. Accounts must be settled prior to the end of year banquet. This will be automatically billed to the card on file with Team Unify.

At the end of the year banquet the family with the most service hours will be rewarded with a $100 credit towards the following season.

The following positions will need fulfilled at swim meets we host:

Admissions and Heat Sheet Sales - 4 points

Announcer - 5 points

Clerk of Course - 4 points

Lane Marshalls - 4 points
