This game is for me first. Shattered world, and I can't overstress this point, is written to be the game I want to play. It's intended for an audience of one. I made it to please me. Mass appeal and marketability concerns go on the backburner.
Saying the game is for me first should not be misconstrued to mean that it’s for me only. It's for my players. I want the players that matter most to me to enjoy this game.
I went to all this trouble, so I might as well make it available in case anyone else might enjoy it.
I wrote this game entirely myself. Different visual artists have contributed, and I could certainly cite a long list of which RPG’s inspired this game that I wrote.
Syseria/Shattered World began as a campaign setting for other RPG’s that has been in development since 1989. Making a standalone game system was not in consideration until the 2020s. Thus, the world is highly developed, while the mechanics are still a work in progress.
This thing has been kicking around in my head for over 30 years. That's right, three decades! However, funny story, this one event happened in early 2023 and, well, long story short I decided that OGL wasn’t the route to go if I am going to get real about Syseria, which was pretty much the point of this whole soiree (for me at least).
Anyway, around that time things got... interesting. Let's just say the whole OGL situation made me realize that if I was going to do Syseria justice, I needed to break free. See, over those 35 years, Syseria kinda... grew. It got its own personality, its own quirks. Trying to cram it into the old system was like trying to fit a dragon into a hamster cage.
Major version VII represents a sea change in the tabletop industry and a full break from that "one" RPG. I will definitely be continuing to define the mechanics and lore of the world throughout VII. Another major task is, now, to playtest the new Shattered World system.
There were a couple problems anyway even before the whole OGL debacle. Not the least of which, Syseria has become too different. Trying to house rule the hell out of that "one" RPG is okay to a degree, but if you keep going, eventually a) you’ll lose players’ trust or at least interest, and b) it’s likely to break.
Creating my own mechanics system for the setting is a blessing and a curse, the curse part for obvious reasons. The blessing however is that instead of having to change 5e/d20 so drastically, and consequently yank the rug out from under the players’ feet, I can instead tailor every detail to the goals and needs of the setting.
This of course had pushed the date back for even a full alpha version to the end of 2025. And then there’s playtesting, which I can’t even begin to guess even who I can get to—again, graciously donate their time—play with and see how it all works out.
Creating a system for Syseria was always something in the back of my mind, but I never saw a compelling reason other than the above. So by the time I had gotten more serious about this setting, the TTRPG industry was firmly rooted in OGL territory. Seemed like a win-win to me!
The benefits however will be, I hope, glorious. Freed from the constraints of that "one" RPG, I feel the potential for Syseria can be fully explored.

The third section begins with the parts of Syseria and mechanics for gameplay that are for the PF’s eyes only. This section includes lore that players shouldn’t know, secrets, and sensitive information about characters that could potentially be the enemies of the party.
Part 1 is about getting started, creating a character, and so forth. Here you will find information on the races of Syseria, as well as the standard and exotic sentient species and how they fit (if they do) into the world. Interwoven throughout are various pieces of lore, history, and stories about the world. You will also find here a breakdown of time on Syseria, the calendar, currency, and so on.
Part 2 Fully details the Syserian pantheon and her myriad of gods and goddesses. There are numerous gods that can grant powers and divine magic to the faithful. However, gods and goddesses either can not or will not appear physically on the face of Syseria. While there are still miracles and magic to be witnessed, this does introduce a faith element to gameplay.
Part 3 Is where most players should probably stop reading, at least those who are concerned about spoilers. It begins with Peoples and Lands, cultures, and various political organizations, and also covers encounters, weather generation, bestiary, and other information best left to the imagination if you’re not facilitating.
