What is CSforALL?

Computer Science for ALL (CSforALL) is a bold initiative to make high-quality computer science an integral part of the educational experience of all K-12 students and teachers and to support student pathways to college and career success.

CSforALL embodies a vision in which our educational systems provide equitable and accessible K-12 computer science education so that all students will be informed citizens who critically engage in a modern, technology-driven world; develop as learners, users, and creators of computational knowledge and artifacts; better understand the role of computing in the world around them; and learn, perform, and express themselves with computing across other subjects and interests.

Who is CSforALL?

CSforALL (csforall.org) is the national hub for the CSforALL movement. Members include school districts, nonprofits, government agencies, and companies that share a common goal of providing rigorous, inclusive, and sustainable computer science to all students. Are you interested in becoming a member? See this document for information on how to apply.

What is the 2018 CSforALL Summit?

In October 2018, the national community of computer science educators, researchers and activists will come together again to mark progress and announce new commitments to reach the goal of access to rigorous, inclusive, and sustainable computer science education for all US students.

Who is the audience for the Summit?

The audience for the CSforALL Summit includes stakeholders engaged in and supportive of building rigorous, inclusive, and sustainable K-12 computer science education for the US, both in and out of school. The Summit will include an in-person audience of carefully selected school district delegations, commitment-making organization, and community leaders.

How can I attend the Summit?

The CSforALL Summit is an invitation-only event. To be considered for an invitation, you can make a commitment to support a CSforALL initiative. Participants will be selected from the pool of CSforALL commitment submissions. Sign up for our mailing list to stay up to date on submission dates and requirements.

Does submitting a commitment guarantee me an invite to the Summit?

No — submitting a commitment does not guarantee an invitation to the 2018 CSforALL Summit, as space is limited.

What is a commitment?

CSforALL commitments are new, specific, and measurable actions taken by community stakeholders in support of achieving the ultimate goal of computer science for all US students. Commitments can be large or small and don’t always require large investments of funding. They must represent new work or be additive to existing work, such as expanding a program to a new audience or significantly growing the reach of a program. Illustrative categories and examples of 2017 commitments include:

What is the deadline to submit a commitment?

The window in which to submit commitments opens at the end of May. Commitments should be submitted by August 1st, 2018 for priority consideration for inclusion in the Summit program. Invitations will be distributed on a rolling basis and it is in your best interest to get your commitment submitted as soon as possible. Commitments submitted after this deadline are still strongly encouraged and will continue to be accepted throughout the year for consideration and inclusion in upcoming CSforALL press releases and community announcements related to the CSforALL Summit. While submitting a commitment does not guarantee an invitation to the Summit, as space is limited, you will automatically be added to our waitlist in the event that additional tickets become available.

Does a financial commitment need to be made to CSforALL in order to attend the Summit?

No — commitments should reflect and address the mission of achieving the CSforALL mission of rigorous, inclusive and sustainable computer science for all US students. While commitments that include CSforALL (and csforall.org members!) as a partner are welcomed, all commitments that advance the mission will be considered.

When will I know if I’ve received an invitation to the Summit?

Invitation notifications and/or general updates on the status of your application will begin on August 15 for commitments made by the July 16 deadline and will continue on a rolling basis as additional commitments are made and as space allows.

Are hotel room blocks available for the Summit?

Yes — for your convenience, we will arrange hotel blocks with a few different hotels in the area. Please note that it is important to book your accommodations prior to the designated date to receive the group rate. Check back soon for more details!

Can I still make a commitment to CSforALL if I know that I’m unable to attend the Summit?

Yes — the CSforALL team will work with stakeholders to craft strategies to share commitments.

Will there be a live stream of the Summit?

Yes — the Summit Celebration will be live-streamed nationally. Links and instructions will be shared via Twitter, Facebook and other social media platforms using the hashtag #CSforALL.

Can my organization sponsor the Summit?

Yes — those interested in sponsoring the event should reach out to us at summit@csforall.org.
