TE WHĀRIKI
Well-being/Mana atua – Goal 3: Tamariki and adults experience and environments where they are kept safe from harm.
PROCEDURES
- All plants on Geraldine preschool grounds have been identified, photographed and kept in a centre plant register. The register is kept in the Health and Safety folder.
- The toxicities and or poisonous properties of plants will be noted. Any plants that are a potential hazard will be added to the centre Hazard and Risk Management plan and elimination or isolation strategy noted.
- Checks for poisonous plants/weeds will be part of the daily hazard check.
- When new plants are purchased for the centre, they are identified, photographed and added to the centre plant register. Checks are made to ensure the plant is not poisonous or toxic to humans.
- Ensure plants with spiky branches and kept trimmed back from pathways and children’s play areas.
- Educate children not to put any plants or berries into their mouth, nose or ears.
