Welcome to another year of hockey coverage at The Fantasy Fix. Below is a small cheat sheet to help you build your winning lineup! Couple of things you should know:

A-- Research for the first two months of the season is going to be based on (mostly) numbers from last season, so there will be growing pains

B-- Make sure to always check out dailyfaceoff.com for line combinations and starting goalies. I’ll do my best to update this post during the day.

C--Players will be listed in order of production per salary (pp$), a fancy stat I wish I could take credit for.

D-- Please feel free to give me your opinion on the cheat sheet and what you think I should

add/remove. Be as nice/mean as you wish.

Let’s have another amazing NHL season!

Jacob Markstrom

Vs.LV

Markstrom is free on FD and has an elite matchup against a LV team that is #NotGood on the road. Safest cash play of the night.

Semyon Varlamov

Vs.WSH

Everyone is going to be high on Washington and Ovechkin, but to be honest, the Capitals have been very mediocre this season, Maybe they do score a couple of goals in this one, but I don’t think they win the game. Varlamov is a nice GPP option

FD

GPP

Jonathan Quick

Vs.BOS

The LAK were very average their last time out against VAN, but that shouldn’t be the case tonight. BOS is banged up and the Kings are an elite hockey team at home. Quick isn’t a cheap option, but he’s an elite one.

FD

GPP

Charlie Lindgren

Vs.ARI

Carey who? Lindgren has been phenomenal since being call up from the AHL. His price tag is way too high on DK (over $8000), but FD has yet to figure it out, so that’s the spot to use him. If MTL can pop a couple of goals in this one, Lindgren should be able to hit value easily.

Nikita Kucherov

Vs.DAL

There are a ton of bargain bin plays today Kucherov is able to light them up like a Christmas tree.

Taylor Hall

@TOR

Let’s not pretend like TOR is a great team defensively They are going to give up a couple of goals in this one, and Taylor Hall will have a part in that. He’s also a nice GPP option.

DK

GPP

Brock Boeser

Vs. LV

Boeser is $4600 on DK (!!!). It’s hard to pick out the top line in VAN, but Boeser is THE player to own on this slate. He’s going to be a popular play, but that shouldn’t discourage anyone from using him in GPPs.

FD

C$

Miko Rantanen/Gabriel Landeskog

Vs.WSH

Here’s a two-for-one option. Landeskog has a better price tag on FD, while Rantanen is better priced on DK. As mentioned earlier, WSH is going to give up some goals, so pick a winger and roll him out there.

FD/DK

GPP

Alex Ovechkin

@COL

There’s a slim chance that WSH wins this game, but if they do, Ovi will have a huge part in it. He’s an elite NHL player who can score any night. He’s a nice cash game option.

*Joe Pavelski-- Wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t recommend a SJ1 play

Steven Stamkos

Vs.DAL

If you build your lineup correctly, you’ll be able to fit Stamkos AND Kucherov into your FD lineup (I’ve already done it, so it’s true). There is no duo more elite in the NHL right now than Stamkos-Kucherov, and anytime you can get both into your lineup, you gotta do it!

Both

Both

Nathan Mackinnon

VS.WSH

If you want to go with a full COL1 stack, go for it! They aren’t getting any respect on this slate, yet they should. Mackinnon is going to find room against a mediocre WSH defence and people still think Holtby is elite (He is, but he’s hasn’t been so far this season). If you aren’t paying up for an elite C, Mackinnon is a nice plan B.

DK

GPP

Bo Horvat

Vs.LV

There’s just so much value at C tonight. Horvat is going to get his chances with Boeser tonight, and his price tag is really nice. If you need some salary relief, Horvat is an option to look at.

FD

C$

Jonathan Drouin

Vs.ARI

There’s been very little talk of MTL in this cheat sheet, but that’s because Drouin is the only option worth considering. If MTL is going to score goals, Drouin is going to be part of it. His price tag is nice, so he’s an option to consider. He’s limited because his wingers are meh (yes, even Pacioretty) but he can be used as a single bullet in cash or GPPs

Michael Del Zotto

Vs.LV

By now, you probably know how I feel about Del Zotto. He’s always on my cheat sheet every time VAn is in action because he’s just so cheap! Even if he doesn’t get a point, he won’t finish with a low score. He’s got an elite matchup in this one, so he should be another salary relief option.

FD

C$

Shea Weber

Vs.ARI

Need an elite defenceman? Shea Weber is your guy. He’s going to be on the ice for half the game and is bound to pick up a point by the end of the night.

FD

C$

Mikhail Sergachev

Vs.DAL

Hedman is going to be heavily owned because of his name, but Sergachev is much cheaper and is averaging about the same FPPG as Hedman while seeing less minutes and second PP duties. If you can pay up for Hedman, do it, but don’t feel the need to destroy your lineup to get it done.

FD

Both

Samuel Girard

Vs.WSH

He’s also free on FD. The kid is seeing top PP minutes in COL and is a cheaper alternative than Tyson Barrie. Even if he doesn’t pick up a point, his peripheral stats should be enough to help him hit value
