Mission of Andover Public Schools: Andover Public School District seeks to prepare learners for a lifetime of responsible living and learning in a changing society by creating partnerships, high expectations and meaningful educational opportunities.
Study Skills Program Goals: The Study Skills program at ACHS reflects what is fundamental in the mission of Andover Public School District. This is to provide preparation that will enable students to assume leadership roles. This means developing knowledgeable students who are leaders who take control and become leaders of their education, communication, and personal responsibilities within a community. Study Skills aims to help students in reaching proficiency in these areas.
Study Skills Conceptual Framework: In fulfilling this mission and goals, the students who complete the ACHS Study Skills program will be:
Knowledgeable students who engage in critical thinking, possess basic quantitative skills, and communicate effectively.
Caring students who are concerned about the whole person, in self and in others; who demonstrate responsibility to the community and society; who respect the dignity of every person; who listen carefully and seek to understand and do what is right; and who make ethical decisions.
Reflective students who are perceptive, curious, discerning and who use good judgement; who evaluate the effects of their choices; who understand the historical, philosophical, and social foundations of education; who exhibit lifelong learning.
Visionary students who collaborate with others to transform; who strive to achieve a virtuous learning community; and who use strategies to ensure the continual development of their learning.
Collaborative students who value relationships as well as knowledge and insights acquired from them; who respectfully listen to others; who seek to join others in fostering active inquiry and supportive interaction in the classroom; who work to transform and to improve the school for all students.
Ethical Students who embody goodness, integrity, truth, justice and compassion as well as employ a moral and ethical framework in decision-making; and whose decisions are crafted in the pursuit of the common good, which includes advancing the causes of peace and justice.
Study Skills is a course to improve all areas of learning abilities and introduce the skills needed to succeed in the classroom and in the world community. This is a unique opportunity for students to build on existing abilities and knowledge and apply instruction practically toward classwork in the current semester.
