Tom Merritt, Molly Wood

Tom Merritt  00:05

Hey, everyone. I'm Molly wood. And I'm Tom Merritt.

Molly Wood  00:08

Welcome to it's a thing, the weekly podcast supported by you, where our purpose is to create a brighter future with bold representation so we can realize the full potential of every one of us. Thanks for joining us.

Tom Merritt  00:22

Now, if you'll turn in your manuals to page six.

Molly Wood  00:27

This is from the Waco Roy star. orientation meeting just kidding.

Tom Merritt  00:33

You'll see the trigram that represents the confluence of yeah, that I usually I mean, this would could be applied to us where we been making the observation that almost all of them could be applied to us. But this is kind of a weird corporate, the cult version of us.

Molly Wood  00:48

It's like, right, exactly. If we were like a weird cult, and then the even weirder part about it, is that this is from Macy's.

Tom Merritt  00:56

Oh, I always knew I always suspected. It's a

Molly Wood  01:01

it's a cult. It apparently is.

Tom Merritt  01:06

It's just the part where it says where we can realize the full potential of every one of us we bet sort of like you're part of us now.

Molly Wood  01:15

No creepy little surprisingly creepy. And also nothing about shopping. Yes, throwing a

Tom Merritt  01:20

brighter future with a bold representation that Not another word, but there was nothing wrong with that, particularly, but then.

Molly Wood  01:26

Yeah, and it just got a little culty there. And at the end,

Tom Merritt  01:29

there's also a call out there that I think I am not a part of, but it's probably not dangerous. And that's the cult of showing off your Spotify Insta fest.

Molly Wood  01:39

Oh, my goodness. I mean, I'd literally just I was like, this has to be an aura thing. And this point, because I like many people fell into the actual confusion of thinking that Spotify had released is viral and now like part of our Christmas tradition wrapped list to everybody because I started seeing on everybody's Instagram and rich posted it. Actually what happened is rich posted in our group chat. And then I was like, oh my god, Spotify wrapped us out because it was a picture of like songs and stuff. And I'm like, we and then I went Spotify and I was like, Oh, how am I wrapped yet? Only to find out later. That wrapped was actually usurped snaked up ended by disrupted, even interrupted, corrupted by this like free thing called Insta fest where you could connect it to various services, not just Spotify, and make instead of a wrapped list, like make your own festival poster. Yeah, and everyone is doing it because it's so fun.

Tom Merritt  02:44

I like these every year when I see Spotify wrapped, which is now finally out, I get a little bit jealous that I don't use Spotify. I wish I could play in the sandbox, Apple, Apple improved their little replay end of year thing and it's still fun to see all the data. But it's nothing, nothing on Spotify, but I like you when I first saw these instafamous things like they've outdone themselves. This is amazing. And then in fact that it was a third party app I'm like those people are super smart.

Molly Wood  03:14

And the third party app actually does kind of integrate with Apple Music like it integrates with other ones it's the Apple Music once a beta like you don't get all the features but you still get the poster you just don't get you don't

Tom Merritt  03:26

get you have to use Spotify for instant fest no I can use I didn't know that

Molly Wood  03:31

go there right now. Instant fest dot app right now because it no it integrates with like multiple services not

Tom Merritt  03:37

to Wi Fi but I do I'm still a no no this is going to be tinfoil hat territory. Don't like letting them log in. Do you have to log in with your Apple ID? I mean

Molly Wood  03:52

you make not a terrible point about the Apple ID thing.

Tom Merritt  03:55

Especially the Apple ID right. I don't love his a lot. I wouldn't love the Spotify ID but the Apple ID has a lot of other stuff going on.

Molly Wood  04:03

Man I didn't even like didn't give that even a nanosecond thought to be signed in with Last fm Spotify or Apple Music

Tom Merritt  04:12

years with with Spotify, Spotify. Yeah.

Molly Wood  04:17

And by the way, did not give it even again a nanosec I have no sense of personal security apparently. whatsoever. I was like yeah, strange website. Let's go.

Tom Merritt  04:27

Oh, okay. Insta fest pulls artists from your Apple Music replay playlist. So I think it's just sharing the playlist with them.

Molly Wood  04:38

Hmm, okay. I'm just saying yes. Is it a an unknown security situation with a hilariously brief privacy policy and no reassurances whatsoever, just a guy who created a free fun thing. Yes. Is it so fun though? Also, yes,

Tom Merritt  04:59

it's First would like to access Apple musics media library and listening activity. This is allowed through Apple's authorization. All right, see how your data is managed? So this is just a they're using the Apple stuff.

Molly Wood  05:15

Okay, that's fine. Apple wouldn't let anything bad happened to you Spotify probably would well,

Tom Merritt  05:19

I mean, they might, but at least this this place is what's easy. What is Apple is good about is that I can tell that they're using Apple's security things so I can tell what's going on. I could see like, Oh, they're not trying to grab anything and Apple, you know, is pretty well vetted at not giving them anything, they don't tell you. They're giving them so.

Molly Wood  05:38

And it's so fun. To also fun. It's so fun. So you gotta you gotta do it. But now,

Tom Merritt  05:45

you see, because they're more secure. I have to go and get my apple replay playlist. And then I don't think I could do this at the same time. I have to never add it to my library. And then okay, replay. Oh, man, he's really yeah, this is too complicated.

Molly Wood  06:05

What a shame. You know, Apple must have like, I don't know tighter security or something and make it a little more difficult but not want to beat all the data because Spotify you just like give it all your credentials that are tied to your credit card on the back end. And then it just makes the poster and then it gives you this really funny thing called the basic score. Like how basic is your festival which the people who use Apple cannot get but it was it that this is I made this i and I'm not alone made this into a remote worker water cooler moment today for sure. Like I was like group lightning everybody go do this.

Tom Merritt  06:41

Alright, I think I think I figured it out. Now, I can't find the website where Oh, there it is.

Molly Wood  06:53

It's cool. Well, wait, we're here for

Tom Merritt  06:54

you. Yeah, it's good audio.

Molly Wood  06:57

It's good stuff. Good stuff.

Tom Merritt  06:59

All right. So now I've got to go through that. Now that I've added the replay mix, then I have to allow it to get it again. Error.

Molly Wood  07:08

Didn't know. Because everyone's talking about it.

Tom Merritt  07:13

Yeah, it's probably timed out or something before it gave me the like, you didn't add your playlist and like Okay, so I'll do that. Oh, but I did the Back button and it worked. Yay.

Molly Wood  07:24

Do you have one now Do you ever

Tom Merritt  07:25

do I do.

Molly Wood  07:27

I'm gonna get three headliners. It presented as like a three day festival with three headliners and then so subbands

Tom Merritt  07:36

So Wednesday is BTS supported by ESPA J hope and focus. You know focus hocus pocus focus. Thursday is Le Sarafem backed up by twice IU and Campbell.

Molly Wood  07:55

Oh my god, amazing.

Tom Merritt  07:56

And Friday is Blackpink backed by 17 Lisa and Steve Hackett

Molly Wood  08:00

God you are all the way in all the way

Tom Merritt  08:04

with Steve Hackett with

Molly Wood  08:07

also Steve Hackett just being like Steve haggin shows up for that festival. And

Tom Merritt  08:10

he's like, Oh, my How did I get

Molly Wood  08:13

in the right plane or

Tom Merritt  08:17

on youngest say Oh,

Molly Wood  08:20

damn. Yeah, exactly. Producer rich in our chat says this is 0% Basic.

Tom Merritt  08:28

Here I'll put the whole thing in here. So you could you could see it. Oh, wait, why didn't that add it to my

Molly Wood  08:34

amazing? Yeah. Anyway, see, everyone is so fun.

Tom Merritt  08:40

Yeah, I didn't realize you could do it with Apple. And now I have vetted it live so that you can you can say like, okay, it's fairly safe to do it. Hey, go let's headed into the discord.

Molly Wood  08:52

Journalism, hashtag journalism.

Tom Merritt  08:54

I like that iron butterfly Marvin Gaye and Harry Styles are backing up the same day as Blackpink

Molly Wood  09:01

Heck yeah, look at that. That's a fun one. sigh Jesse Yeah, that's a good listen. See this is gonna be a great is a great festival.

Tom Merritt  09:13

Yeah, Dua Lipa and Jonathan Coulton sharing the stage

Molly Wood  09:17

has a good shot. That's a good day right there. Oh my god. Anyway, it's a blast. It's an era thing. It's not even an official thing

Tom Merritt  09:25

that we have things yet. If you told me that that works with Apple Music.

Molly Wood  09:30

I know because it made such great content. By the way, if you are a member of our patreon@patreon.com Slash, it's a thing. You can join us live in our Discord as we tape the show, and you'd be able to see this poster in real time being created and popped into the chat. Oh, that's right. Yeah,

Tom Merritt  09:48

I'll take that as a win. Is my first thing. Potential Hall of Famer here, there's the variations like just take the win. And or I'll take it. But def definitely has vaulted itself to Hall of Fame thing heights, not not new not trying to claim, you know, oh, people just started saying this or anything, but I see it everywhere. It's being used constantly on tick tock and memes seems to be having a little bit of a another moment in its long history of moments. But yeah. Are you seeing this? I'll take that as a win.

Molly Wood  10:26

Oh, absolutely. Take the win. Take the wins. All the variations. Yeah. Some of the lazier, shorter versions, such as take the W take the W Yeah, a lot of times just W. But I'm seeing I'll take that.

Tom Merritt  10:40

I'll take that. Yeah, I've seen that. Well, I'll take that. I'll take it or I'll

Molly Wood  10:43

take it. Yeah. And then take the win. Take the win. I feel like it's the huge one. And I even say that all the time in my life. Yeah. So preempted aren't like I'm like, I don't know why you're, you know, you're see now you're just argument. Just take the win.

Tom Merritt  10:55

Take the win. Yeah, take the win. Maybe just give someone the way I expected but I'll take the win.

Molly Wood  11:02

Like when you give someone a compliment, for example. And then they just are like, Well, no, because take away, take away. Just take the win. Take the win.

Tom Merritt  11:12

You know what? I there's not even that much to say about this one. So no, except no. Congratulations, you are a Hall of Fame thing. Take the win.

Molly Wood  11:20

Take though. Well, I also my first thing is also slang. And I would like to point out that I have had this on the reminder list and I put it in the lineup. And then I scroll down to our feedback and saw that we got an email from Manny, of course, about this same thing.

Tom Merritt  11:40

THD doctor of theology.

Molly Wood  11:43

Exactly. So that's how I know that when I tell you that the word rip is is the thing. I am right.

Tom Merritt  11:50

Oh, is this? This is one of those helpful ones. What the heck is rihs?

Molly Wood  11:55

Yeah, exactly. Like you're gonna hear people. So it's all over Tiktok people are saying res it's spelled ri ZZ. And what it it's basically a new synonym for game. Like, in fact, you could argue that it is short for romantic charisma

Tom Merritt  12:10

over any kind of game. Like he's got game. He's got

Molly Wood  12:13

game like he's got good romantic energy. He's a good he's good at flirting.

Tom Merritt  12:17

So do you say he's got Rizz?

Molly Wood  12:19

Yep, you can say he has good ribs and pressive Rizz Rizz His rewards top notch right or no risk at all. Is like at no risk. Exactly. Unspoken Riz. Oh, unspoken. When you have nonverbal charm. You're just pretty another another example from slang dotnet you better go save your boy from that shouty over there it looks like his race has run out.

Tom Merritt  12:48

You can run out or is you're gonna run out.

Molly Wood  12:51

Like it's really just, I mean, it's really like the kids just being like you guys said game and we don't want to so we came up with this new thing, but I love the idea that it's a truncation of romantic charisma that's actually delightful.

Tom Merritt  13:03

Oh, so yeah, though that almost got lost on me it is it is a contraction.

Molly Wood  13:08

I mean, I don't know that it necessarily is but it kind of has to be right like they say when you have a lot of romantic charisma so have a lot of wear is like Well, obviously. Yeah, make sense. Be right. It's got to be above that. And it's delightful. Really. Anyway, it's, it's new to I guess it it was coined in 2021 It has become very popular on tick tock to post videos showing off your wrist ah.

Tom Merritt  13:35

Now all genders can use Rizz.

Molly Wood  13:38

slang that net appears to ascribe it particularly to men.

Tom Merritt  13:45

Usage tends to be used for men tends to be okay, but anybody can use it is

Molly Wood  13:51

I think anybody Yeah, anybody can ever, as I say based on old gender based stereotypes that only men can aggressively hit on people.

Tom Merritt  14:01

And that just ain't true feedback and it's a thing that means send us your personal estimation of your own risk use whatever metric you would like.

Molly Wood  14:10

Think of it like your basic score.

Tom Merritt  14:12

Yeah

Molly Wood  14:17

my roses six Yeah.

Tom Merritt  14:21

I would like to use my second thing to identify chain belts, chain belts all over the place. And they were right in front of my nose the whole time. They've been there for years, but I looked it up fashion magazines were writing about him in 2019 but they are also still writing about them. And I see them on so many people when they're like trying to be dressed up right so yeah, award ceremony or red carpet event are out at a concert chain belts. You're trying to make your look a little sassy store on a chain belt. Chain belt. Yeah chain belt for the win.

Molly Wood  15:01

There. I have one of these. It's a Michael Kors chain belt. It looks identical to all of the ones in the picture. And every time that I'm wearing something, and it's not quite right, I put it on. Like 100% It is like magic. And is such a potent like a persistent thing, but I do think it's made a comeback. And I don't know why I don't know if it's like the 90s thing, or if it just never went away. Yeah,

Tom Merritt  15:30

it might be a little bit right in on that 90s tre was big in the 90s. And it seems it seems like it was already coming about for other reasons, possibly, and then the 90s boosted just to think them. But I can't tell for sure.

Molly Wood  15:44

I mean, Gucci makes one so you know it's a thing. Because everything that Gucci is doing is a thing,

Tom Merritt  15:53

right? previously told you also a thing.

Molly Wood  15:58

Just side note that if you type the word chain belt into Duck, duck, go the words and then you click news. You get a nothing about belts.

Tom Merritt  16:06

There are things that things are timing belts, and such. Yeah, I noticed that too. Yeah. But you get a chain fashion, and then that'll narrow it back down chain

Molly Wood  16:17

belts for women. Yeah, totally. God. Wow. How did I I'm so glad that this came back, because I've had mine for a minute. And I was never sure if it was like still stylee

Tom Merritt  16:25

Yeah, bring that chain belt out of the closet. Oh,

Molly Wood  16:28

heck yeah. Dope it up. Love this. Okay, so this is a this is a thing that I'm trying to figure out if it's occurring by accident, or if it's a thing that all the cool kids are doing. But I have recently noted

Tom Merritt  16:46

that thing the cool kids did by accident, and then said, No, I meant to do that. And then we're like, Yeah,

Molly Wood  16:51

this is actually my thing. I think, yeah. I have noticed a lot of my iPhone friends, having their notifications silenced. Okay, all the time.

Tom Merritt  17:06

So by notifications silenced, you

Molly Wood  17:09

go to send them a text on iMessage. Right. And it says, you know, whoever they are, has their notification silence, right. And then it's like notify anyway. But it's not. It's not like they sometimes do because they're in a meeting, you know, like, we all like we do the do not disturb or whatever. It's always and I feel like I first noticed it with like, a really busy person, then there was sort of a secondarily like busy but you know, for and then a third busy, bigwig. I'm like, wait, wait, wait. So then I have this question, which is like, Wait, is it is the busy big week thing to do to like, silence your notifications, because you're just so busy, you can't kind of

Tom Merritt  17:50

show to make to present as busy. Right? Like, I identify as busy.

Molly Wood  17:57

Yes. Like, I was like, Is this a status thing? Yeah, we're not. And then though, and then there was an article from September, that was like, oh, yeah, now that the iPhone and iOS and 15, were up to 16. Yes, but added this crazy, like focus mode situation, which is like nine different choices and focus mode, and it's hard to tell if your focus mode is off or on. Like, there were lots of how tos about how to turn your notifications back on.

Tom Merritt  18:26

Yeah, I think it's both. I think some people are probably doing it performative ly because they like it, but I bet there's more people who don't even know it's odd. Because I definitely, I have a friend, let's call him John Scottson. Who I'm 100% sure is not doing it for performative reasons, but it seems like it's always on when I text him, and I'll text him I won't say like, break through and he'll respond. Right. So he's seeing it, even though it tells me his notifications are silenced. So then,

Molly Wood  19:02

is this notification silence mean anything?

Tom Merritt  19:06

I know, no, Steve Jobs would be so angry, like what's

Molly Wood  19:10

even happening right now. So people are giving the impression that they're being performatively busy with their notifications off. But or they have them off by accident, or

Tom Merritt  19:22

they're doing some focus mode schedule, or like look at my calendar and if I'm at work, you know, someone's my notifications. You say yes, do this all the time, one time and then you forget that's the way it works.

Molly Wood  19:33

But then the really crazy part is that what you seem to be saying is it's not even silencing them because that's also happening like with the one friend who has it on all the time, every time I both two people, every time I text them boom, they write right back. So like Well Does it even work? Like

Tom Merritt  19:49

what I asked this is one thing I don't know when they're silenced. Does the number badge still go up? Because that might explain them going like oh number badge went up. Once there

Molly Wood  20:00

I don't know. But I'm so confused about like, because if it's a flex, it's obviously a bad flex, if you just answer right away. And then yeah, I don't know. But it's I'm I'm fascinated. It all does seem to be like the whole thing seems to be a mess. Like, for a while I could turn on Do Not Disturb on my phone, and it would cancel the notifications on my watch. But that doesn't work anymore. Like, I'll be laying in bed and my watch will be like, beep, beep beep you. And I'm like, what, Papa?

Tom Merritt  20:29

Yeah, laverbread points out, Android has had this too. And you can set apps to ignore it. But the apple one in particular tells you in the iMessage app, when you're texting them, this person has notification silenced. You know, they're not gonna see it. Do you want to break through that? Do you want to bug them? Do you want to tap him on the shoulder and go, Hey, look at my message. And even if you don't, a lot of times, they still respond right away.

Molly Wood  20:57

Exactly. And so that's why it feels like a flex like, Oh, I'm too busy to ever have mine are

Tom Merritt  21:03

never too busy for you. Mollywood. But then

Molly Wood  21:05

it still seems to go through like I can't, I'm stumped. I can't figure it out at all. And I do think you're probably right that there's like 5050 Like, some people are like, I have my notifications off all the time, because I'm just so busy, which maybe they are and then half of them are just like I don't frickin know how to turn it. You can't the the UI for it is completely busted. And why are there nine different versions of it? There's like, focus time driving personal get work done sleep. Don't they presumably all do the same thing.

Tom Merritt  21:34

Here. Here's, here's my old man perspective on this. I have, I have a few principles kids that you follow. And you don't have to mess with any of this. First of all, always say no to notifications by default. I don't understand why people close to me. They just they say yes to No, no, never say yes to a notification when you set up an app. Never say yes, always say no, until you hit a point where you're like, I'm missing out on something and then carefully go in and curate on the notifications that you want to see, then you won't have to go into focus mode, because you won't be overwhelmed with notifications all the time. Correct seconds. If you haven't done step one, and you think like, Man, I need an artificial intelligence to manage this for me, like focus time, just know that when a computer thinks it's going to help you it won't. I run into this with my voice assistants all the time, when they're like, Hey, we noticed this, would you like us to do this? And no, they never say a thing I want them to do. They're always wrong. They don't know you. It's not very good algorithms are not very good. So don't trust the algorithm, please return to step one. And just get rid of all your notifications.

Molly Wood  23:01

Ever that was a Tom rant, I'm so happy. Just don't let the computer help.

Tom Merritt  23:10

Yeah, it's not gonna It's someday it will someday I'll go like, you know what, I think it's good enough. I'm gonna let it help. But it's not there. Yeah, it's not.

Molly Wood  23:19

I really do a thing that I really liked to say a lot is another day, say from the machines. She's like, Yeah, you're not good at stuff.

Tom Merritt  23:28

Because it's like all these all these little like curly Q, things like focus mode, it's all like, well, I didn't do the thing the right in the first place. So I'm going to try to fix it. Here. It's like don't know, fix the root cause, fix the root cause First, don't just add another feature that's then going to go wrong and just make things worse, which is kind of what it looks like it's happening. We need a Linux Chaser.

Molly Wood  23:50

Chaser for that. Exactly. It's beautiful. All right, let's let you talk for a moment, Shall we feed back and it's a thing that me is where you can email email us. Like, by the way, Manny did. I'm going to skip ahead to Mandy's email about risk because he defined it exactly like I am the internet did but also added the fact that you can use it as complementary or negative by saying w rihs. Oh, like when or L res for loss.

Tom Merritt  24:23

He combined are two things he

Molly Wood  24:25

frickin combined. That's you think that's

Tom Merritt  24:29

that's why you have a doctorate in psychology right there.

Molly Wood  24:34

Like he is layering the thing. It's a multiverse approach to getting it to end

Tom Merritt  24:41

before knowing we would put them on the show. He did that.

Molly Wood  24:46

Guy is off the chain belt.

Tom Merritt  24:50

Trust Him to manage your notifications seriously.

Molly Wood  24:52

Let's just do whatever man he tells you.

Tom Merritt  24:58

Thank you, Manny. I'm also he tried tamale edge and then said it's not a winner, but I'm tired. Which is awesome. Terry sent us a message on Patreon Hi, kids. Regarding your discovery of ELA five. There is a subreddit for it that's been around since 2011. Great show had been listening to you guys since the old bus outloud days.

Molly Wood  25:24

I don't know if it's, I don't know if

Tom Merritt  25:25

that's his type or a transcription error, but either way it's entertaining. And I've recommended it's a thing to several of my family members. Thank you, Terry. That's great. Yeah, if you want more ELA five had just to head to the subreddit. It sir.

Molly Wood  25:37

Whatever is the thing probably has existed on Reddit since 2011. I think that's just a fair assumption for everything. We've talked about

Tom Merritt  25:44

it. Certainly there's a subreddit for it. If Yeah, yeah, for sure.

Molly Wood  25:49

Mellie writes in on sad beige Tallinn rich I have a 10 week old daughter. Oh, congratulations. So cute. Oh my God is so cute. And my mother was so upset that a lot of the clothing we received for our baby is gray from my millennial friends. She gives us crap anytime we text a photo while baby girls wearing a neutral color. We do not follow color stereotypes and two thirds of what I bought for her on Black Friday sales were from the quote boys section, since that's where the dinosaurs bears and what I would have considered gender neutral designs were currently my favorite footie pajama for her is blue with a skull and crossbones print. That's awesome. I

Tom Merritt  26:25

love that. Yeah.

Molly Wood  26:26

My mother is a garment soloist, she says and made a whole set of hoodies for her in various sizes and rolled her eyes at this fabric selection. But it's bright it looks like that's from far away attaches a photo of one of the aforementioned gray and white clothing items. However, it's paired with a dinosaur quilt, which I made prior to learning the baby sex. So for those who can't see it is bright Caribbean blue with neon, neon yellow, pale blue, and white dinosaur skeletons. It's all so adorable.

Tom Merritt  26:50

Yeah, I'm looking at this picture and there is nothing about this with forget what gender the baby is. The baby looks great. This is

Molly Wood  27:00

great. Thank you. I like the Greenway. I think it's classy.

Tom Merritt  27:03

It is quite classy, classy. Amy and Canada said where we kind of find it weird that Americans do both their big family Turkey focused meals within four weeks of each other. And Chris wrote in thoughts on Turkey last Thanksgiving. So let's start with Amy. Amy says the main reason for never going back to Turkey is the soup. Specifically yellow split pea with ham. It's credited to Quebec so maybe it isn't a common south of the border. No split peas. It's very common south of the border. There is nothing quite so comforting and perfect for tucking into cozy season than this soup. Split pea with ham and then send us a recipe. Thank you for that Amy. American Thanksgiving being at the end of November is less tucking into cozy season than it is roulette every morning to see if the car is frozen shut. But hey, still a perfect time for a hearty comforting soup. 100% Amy well said. And then Chris said not wanting to make a turkey and inspired by a potluck Thanksgiving dinner I had in Guinea years ago we hosted our own potluck this year. Each group brought either a main dish and a side, two sides or a side and a dessert. We ended up with chili smoked pork beef tips, mac and cheese, a casserole, various veggies plus a whole lot more. We even had a pie cake for dessert. Ask Tom I will tell you in a second. No turkey or ham in sight. It was fantastic. And I think we might do it every year. Yeah, Chris separately emailed me about the pie cake. You get it on gold belly. You can get an Uncle Billy. Okay, that's yeah, you got one night.

Molly Wood  28:39

That was Jason's gift to us all last year. Was this. The third cake pie cake? Oh, my God.

Tom Merritt  28:48

So it's like pumpkin and cheese cake cheesecake and Han like a spice something.

Molly Wood  28:56

Maybe it's like four layers. Yeah, it's insane. And it's a it's a small cake. But it is so dense that light bends around it like it's Khorasan

Tom Merritt  29:08

black hole of cakes. Thank you Chris. Thank you, Amy. Both

Molly Wood  29:11

incredible. I love it. And then Aaron has a suggestion for leftover Thanksgiving provisions. I have a use for your leftover heavy cream. I learned how to make fried eggs with heavy cream a couple of years ago. Oh, but I'll never make fried eggs any other way well, well maybe one other way because frying eggs and chili Chris is also incredible. Go ahead and serve that with your rice and nori.

Tom Merritt  29:32

I have these things. I have combined them in different ways than this recipe and I will do this immediately. Thank you.

Molly Wood  29:42

So you know what ticked off by the way has been frying eggs in pesto.

Tom Merritt  29:46

Crack your egg into heavy cream at a sprinkle of salt over medium heat. The cream boils and carmelize is and the egg finishes cooking right around when the cream becomes mostly butter.

Molly Wood  29:56

I'm legit drooling right now like legit That is oh my gosh, by the way a report from the thing trenches I would just like to let everybody know that I made the tic toc cinnamon rolls. Yes, that were going around but I made them just with the eggnog I poured the eggnog over the cinnamon rolls and then baked it until it was done and dear god is incredible. It was like one of the most amazing things I've ever

Tom Merritt  30:22

got. Yeah, that that sounds good. I may have just tried to eat my mic just a little bit while you were talking about that. I put the Hambone in the freezer for potential soup making the rest of the Hammonds gone.

Molly Wood  30:36

And other awesome and awesome thing that you can do if you're going to do like Thanksgiving ham is then turn around us that Hambone in your Black Eyed Pea Good luck New Year's as theirs. That's

Tom Merritt  30:46

a great idea. Yeah.

Molly Wood  30:48

Which by the way, you can make an instant pot and it turns out perfectly nice. Yeah. I don't even think you have to soak the beans if you do that. True story.

Tom Merritt  30:57

Really? Yep. Not soaking the beans seems risky. For my but yeah.

Molly Wood  31:05

For let me be clear.

Tom Merritt  31:09

Just don't want any confusion over what we're talking look.

Molly Wood  31:12

Look that up before you try it. Everybody. This is not cooking advice.

Tom Merritt  31:15

Yeah, yeah. Do we have one one more here? Yeah, we do. Ash wrote in and said, Remo T. Ry mod. I keep hearing all this stuff about doubloons. It might be a thing. I might be jumping the gun. I could be existing in a pocket dimension and nobody else knows about it because it's all a figment of my imagination. All I can gather is that they're like currency but in a joke way, maybe a crypto thing. I leave this to your excellent things sleuthing. Or I may just follow up and find out myself.

Molly Wood  31:50

Okay, and then producer rich left us a note and said that this showed up on the verge the day after this email came in. Headline Hello traveler. Have you heard about tick tock doubloons.

Tom Merritt  32:08

So this is just a joke that has busted out.

Molly Wood  32:11

It's like a meme that has become that became and then quickly stopped being a fictional economy. Evidently it turned into a fictional economy and then crashed within 72 hours and it's DAB balloons spelled with a dab D AB and

Tom Merritt  32:24

so the this is very Dogecoin of 2022.

Molly Wood  32:28

Totally. Yeah. Balloons. Yeah, that balloons. You weren't crazy ash when you were not crazy? Not in the slightest. Oh, amazing. And by the way, complete. Nobody is crazy. Who supports us at any level here at it's a thing patreon.com/ It's a thing and the best among you support us. At the shout out level. I don't Okay. I don't want to ascribe actually your value to how much you pay for. Let's just stress about this show. We're grateful. We are grateful.

Tom Merritt  32:59

If you give a little a lot more value back to the show. You get a little more value back from the show in the form of these shout outs this week inspired by Frederick Brooks, the mythical man month.

Molly Wood  33:12

I think we should alternate paragraphs here. All right, who starts? You start you sir.

Tom Merritt  33:17

Benjamin Forrest building is an entropy decreasing process, hence inherently metastable Lee price is an entropy increasing process, and even his most skillful execution only delays the substance of Louis St. Amour into an unfixable Jake woods.

Molly Wood  33:37

Wow. Kevin cyl recognizes a non physical talent. Eric Duncan as an essential gift of the great Gabrielle Cohen and great Joe hoods. It is the characteristic of running faster than Miranda Janelle moving sooner than Laura Abel trying harder than jamesy Smith it is essential for great Morris Jones teams to

Tom Merritt  33:59

adjusting to the requirement for perfection is I think, the most difficult part of learning Mike Aikens.

Molly Wood  34:07

Einstein repeatedly argued that there must be simplified explanations of nature because God is not capricious or arbitrary. No such faith comforts after Andrew Bradley

Tom Merritt  34:20

and that's why I was talking in my self help voice.

Molly Wood  34:24

Cuz Wow, what the heck is a mythical man month now I got to look this up. It's gotta use they gotta use DuckDuckGo by the way, because if I ever typed all these things

Tom Merritt  34:37

were engineering. Oh

Molly Wood  34:41

wow. Now I'm reading things like entropy decreasing the center limit. mathematize Yeah. Wow,

Tom Merritt  34:50

I knew the sound familiar. Yeah, this is one of those fundamental like, this is incredible. Yeah, very 70s Nice

Molly Wood  34:57
