Project: Junior’s “Hero’s Journey”

YOUR INDEPENDENT TASK: Write 2 short paragraphs proving how EACH of the two quotes you contributed to your group’s poster fits into its stage in Junior’s Hero’s Journey (40% of your grade)

  1. Your CLAIM: 1-2 sentences introducing the place, person, or event that you’ve identified as being part of this particular stage.
  2. CONTEXT: Use one of the methods we went over in class to appropriately contextualize the quote. Think about what your reader will need to know to understand the quote.
  3. QUOTE: remember to use quotation marks and a citation (author's last name + page #)
  4. EXPLANATION: using your notes on the Hero’s Journey stages, explain how this quote shows Junior experiencing one particular stage of the Hero’s Journey.

Here’s a MODEL of what that might look like:

In The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, the hero’s Ordinary World is the Spokane Tribe’s reservation, referred to as “the Rez.” When Junior, the hero, describes what life is like for himself and his family, he says, “But we reservation Indians don’t get to realize our dreams. We don’t get those chance. Or choices. We’re just poor. That’s all we are (Alexie 13).” Junior makes a clear connection between the poverty he and his community face every day and the sense of hopelessness that comes from it.

YOUR PEER & SELF-EVALUATION TASK: turn this paper over! Fully complete the reflection on the back. Be honest and thoughtful in yoru assessments. When you have finished filling in the back, staple your mini-paragraphs on top of the evaluation. I’ll be collecting both tasks on Monday!
