AIFD Elections for Term June 2021 to May 2022

The Board of Directors of the Austin International Folk Dancers (AIFD) announce that elections of Directors to the AIFD Board for 2021-2022. Here is the schedule:

·         Nominations will close on Friday, April 23, 2021

·         Nominees will be announced in the AIFD newsletter on April 27, 2021

·         Nominees will be recognized at AIFD’s online Zoom Friday dance session on April 30, 2021

·         An email ballot will be sent to all AIFD members on May 3, 2021

·         A completed ballot must be returned on or before May 7, 2021

Although the Board has a nominating committee to recruit nominees, self-nomination is encouraged. The Board would like for each AIFD Member to consider serving on the Board. AIFD is a volunteer-run organization and needs the involvement of its members to continue to operate.

The Director positions are as follows:

A person may serve as an AIFD Board Director if they:

·         Have participated in AIFD’s regularly scheduled activities for not less than six months immediately prior to election or appointment

·         Are an AIFD Member at the time of their election or appointment

·         Continue to be an AIFD Member for the duration of their elected or appointed term

·         Are at least eighteen years of age

·         Have paid all applicable AIFD dues

·         Are listed on AIFD's membership list

·         Are in compliance with AIFD rules and policies

A Director’s term of office is one year and the Board meets monthly. The duties of each Director are shown below.

President 

Leads the Board, presides at AIFD events, serves as liaison with facilities used for AIFD events, plans special events (e.g., workshops, parties), carries out Board decisions and serves as backup Treasurer.

Vice-President 

Serves as backup for the President, welcomes guests, does publicity and serves as custodian of AIFD's "cultural" files.

Program Director 

Responsible for the weekly dance programs, recommending recording acquisitions, recommending guest teachers and safeguarding AIFD’s physical assets.

Teaching Director 

Responsible for all teaching, teacher training and teacher recruitment.

Secretary 

Responsible for AIFD correspondence, Board meeting minutes, written records and the address file, as well as providing the webmaster newsletter and webpage content as necessary.

Treasurer 

Responsible for receiving money collected at weekly dance programs, maintaining AIFD accounts, signing checks, issuing a financial report every three months and filing required tax forms.
