Dale Pratt Memorial Scholarship

Eligibility Requirements

To apply, a student must meet all of the following:

• Be a 12th-grade student (senior in high school) and an active member of a Tome Society chapter.
• Hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) at the time of submission.
• Be a current inductee of the Tau Omicron Mu Epsilon Honor Society.
  (Students may have been inducted as a Junior or a Senior.)
  

Required Submission Materials

Applicants must submit all of the following to be considered:

1. Theme Essay
    A 500–750 word original essay that follows the guidelines of the Tome Society Theme Essay Competition. (This essay will be judged using the existing Theme Essay Rubric. Max score: 200 points.)
   
2. Recommendation Letter
    A one-page (max), 12-point font letter from a teacher, club sponsor, coach, or administrator who can speak to the student’s:

• Character
• Contribution to the community
• Work ethic
• Passion for literacy
  
• Note: The letter must include:

• Contact information for the recommender
• A statement of how long they’ve known the applicant and in what capacity
  

3. Official High School Transcript (may be scanned, but should have official stamp/signature)
    Must include:

• Cumulative GPA
• Class Ranking
• Evidence of course rigor (honors/AP/dual enrollment, if applicable)
  

4. Literacy Résumé
    Applicants must create a literacy-focused vita that highlights all literacy-related activities and achievements throughout their high school career and Tome involvement throughout all school years. This should include:

• Tome Society participation, including:

• Years of membership in Club Tome (elementary) and/or Junior Tome (middle school)
• Years of membership in high school Tome Society
• Notable Tome Society activities, initiatives, or leadership roles
• Any Tome competitions participated and awards earned (chapter-level, state, or national)

• Literacy-related community involvement, such as:

• Volunteering in libraries (school or public library), book drives, or reading mentorship programs
• Advocacy or service projects promoting reading or literacy awareness

• Format: Résumé style

• Must be typed and well-organized
• Use bullet points or concise summaries
• Limit to two pages maximum

NOTE: The Scholarship Application does ask for a Headshot Picture of the Applicant (Senior Drape Photo Preferred). **Picture will NOT be used in judging**.  Picture will be used only if applicant is awarded the scholarship in official Tome Society publications and for the Awards Ceremony slideshow. Submission of picture gives Tome Society permission to use photo.
