Behaviour Information for visitors and volunteers

Welcome to Ashburnham Community School. We are very proud of our school and our children and we hope you enjoy your time with us.

We have high expectations of everyone in our school. Everyone is expected to adhere to and demonstrate our expectations and values which are

We try our best

We listen to each other

 We are kind and respectful

We respect and celebrate our differences

We look after our school environment

We keep others and ourselves safe

Our school expectations are closely linked to our Federation Values of

Collaboration,   Curiosity,   Inclusion,  Respect   and   Resilience

Additionally, the children at Ashburnham chose a sixth value, which changes each year.

Our approach to behaviour is trauma-sensitive. This means that we seek to create a calm and safe environment. We aim to form positive, trusting relationships with children and recognise that this is the foundation of a productive and welcoming learning environment. We avoid shaming and publicly comparing children. We believe that this approach is supportive of the wellbeing and development of all children.

We focus on using positive behaviour management techniques such as:

We are proactive in responding to unwanted behaviour and take a curiosity-based, solution-focused approach, taking into account the needs and strengths of individual children. Children are expected to make amends when they have broken a school rule and consequences aim to be reparative and support learning to do better.

Some serious behaviours require an escalated response. This would always be decided in partnership with a member of the leadership team and shared with parents.

If you are a volunteer working with some of our children, some useful phrases might be

I can tell you’re really trying

That was really kind

What an interesting question

Thank you for working so hard

Great perseverance!

You read very confidently

How do you know…?

Can you tell me more about…?

What else do you know about…?

If you feel that a child is not doing the right thing or is becoming sad, anxious or angry about something, please seek support from the child’s class teacher,  the member of staff you report to or any member of the leadership team.

If you want to learn more, you can find our behaviour policy on our website. Please feel free to ask any of our wonderful staff if you are unsure or need clarification.
