October 2024
- *Considering Mifflin Tour, Mifflin School, Sat 10/5 9:30-10:30am - V
- Good attendance is expected
- *FOM Table at East Falls Fall Fest, Ridge & Midvale, Sat 10/19 11am-5pm - V
- Volunteers will sit at table, raise money, and communicate to the community what we’re raising money for.
- Looking for 2 hour shifts - if we have a lot of volunteers, we can make it 1 hour shifts.
- *Mifflin Trick or Treat, Mifflin Schoolyard, Sat 10/26 1-3pm - V
- Working on putting together crafts, games, and possibly face painting
- Volunteers are needed to hand out candy
- Rutabaga’s parade / block party is right after
- Candy donations can be dropped out to the school at room 110
- **Picture Day, Mifflin School, Mon 10/28 9am-12pm - V
November 2024
- Volunteers needed to help students get straightened out, encourage the kids to smile.

President - Gretchen Heacock
- McConnell updated us that there
- Law firm that has been a big donor. They asked McConnell what was needed and she mentioned middle school uniforms are needed.
Recording Secretary - Sarah Mainhart
Treasurer/Fundraising Chair - Peicha Chang
- $11K in general funds
- $1K to fund Middle School Uniforms
- $2,400 for playground
- FOM may be taking over uniform sales - one thought was to put the $1K towards student orders
- Raised $750 selling t-shirts at Back to School Night
- Funded 10 teacher mini-grants so far ($100-$200)
- Currently working on a theater grant from Andrew Lloyd Webber foundation
- Peicha will be reach out to all the volunteers interested in fundraising this week
- Spring fundraiser targeted at paying for buses for field trip
- Sent out a teacher survey to see what things they wanted for outside
- Accessible equipment
- Sensory play equipment
- Shade Structure
- Supplies request form from teachers - need to decide how we want to put out these asks
Social Media Manager - Jessica Nartey
- Pushing message that teachers are still looking for donations for classrooms
- Music is still in need of xylophones which will be used in holiday performance
- Goal of 20 by December / Looking for 40 in total
- May push out a Venmo fundraiser for these
- Pictures needed from various events with students
Visual Design/Website/Newsletter Manager - Jo Park Walker
East Falls Now Liaison - Erin Lehman
- Working on article about the history of Mifflin
- In the 1950’s there were 900 children that attended Mifflin
- Looking for quotes from people that graduated from Mifflin
- Possibly take a picture and get a quote from people at East Falls Fest
Volunteer Coordinator - Julia Owens
- Will email reminders to all the volunteers who have signed up
- Looking for volunteers from Temple, Jefferson, etc.
Mifflin Grounds Chair - Katherine Moran
- Looking for a group to maintain garden to the left of the stairs
- Possibly mulching the garden on Oct 25 when kids are off school
- Soil removal is needed from back basketball court - it’s great compost soil for anyone that needs it.
- Idea floated to throw some bins back there so people can come collect compost soil
- Should some of the money dedicated to playground go to compost bins?
- Earth Day Clean Up - we can advertise to the community to get some free compost soil
- Jess inquired if anyone from the school could help with the basketball court
Member at Large - Jill Harrison
- Mifflin Theater Program - met with Mrs. DellaBuono
- Inspired by the Lion King
- Auditions before winter break
- January - Rehearsals begin
- November Kick Off meeting for parents and interested volunteers
- Mask-making, costume making, and scenic building
- Back stage and run of show support - 4-6 volunteers
- Be available the week of the play and during performances
- Fundraising volunteers needed - front of house fundraisers
- All volunteers must be present at the kick off meeting
- Inquiry - can we do a performance in the evening? - Mr. Cadley explained that there would be a lot of barriers to doing this.

- Working on getting as many teachers as possible to attend Nov 6th
- Developing a committee for teacher lounge improvements

School Advisory Council Report: Jessica Boyer, Vince Carter, Camilo Dominguez
- Waiting on update of dashboard from last year’s survey
- Question around why Pre-K and K-8 have a separate SAC
- It’s because the Pre-K program is run by Headstart
- Clubs - what are the constraints around clubs for students?
- Covid relief funds funded these activities
- Teacher sponsor is required for all clubs
- PAEE / STEAM will be returning this fall but with more limits
Assistant Principal Report: Mr. Cadley
- Top 8 for attendance
- Held on to more gains from Math and Reading than last year (summer slide)
- Number of students scoring in the lowest (intensive intervention) are making the biggest growth
- Focused on continual reduction of middle school suspensions
- $90K grant that benefits Mifflin - focus now is on teacher development in math, materials, supplies, etc. (does not come from school budget)
- Currently listening to vendor pitches
- All vendors seem to be aligned with curriculum
