What is a Hurricane?
Hurricanes are some of nature's strongest storms.
They are made up of Bands. Which are giant storms and strong high winds
They are named in alphabetical order, except Q,U,Y and Z because not many names begin with these letters. No name is used twice if they are killer hurricanes.
How are Hurricanes formed?
They are formed by warm tropical water near the equator.
Many hurricanes that hit North America, start in a basin near Africa. May to June is Hurricane season in North America but they can happen any month of the year.
The warmer the water the stronger the Hurricane.
They Start over warm ocean water. It heats the air above it and rises, becoming humid. This air joins together to form clouds that make thunderstorms.
The wind blows the thunder storm in a circle, at it can reach speeds of 119 Km .
The eye is the centre of the Hurricane, the eye wall is the strongest part.
Hurricanes last about 10 days.
There are 5 categories
1: wind speed 119 to 153 km, 1 to 1.5m high, little harm.
2: wind speed 154 to 177 km, 2 to 2.5m high, causes medium harm
3: wind speed 179 to 209 km, 3 to 3.5m high, causes heavy harm
4: wind speed 211 to 249 km, 4 to 5.5m high, causes terrible harm
5: wind speed greater than 249 km, higher than 5.5m, building and trees are blown down
