Elibab (Elibabb, Eli B.) Wilson was the son of Samuel Wilson and Mary Babb[?].
Elibab Wilson married Hannah Haptonstall (aka Hempenstall).
They had several children.
A Note on Geography and Boundary Changes
In the 1750’s, Samuel Wilson settled on land near the head of the Bullpasture River at present-day Doe Hill in Highland County, Virginia. He had purchased the land from his brother George Wilson. Samuel was soon joined there by another brother, William Wilson.
The Bullpasture River--originally called New Found or Newfoundland Creek--flows south, eventually joining the James River; but just to the north of Doe Hill, streams flow northeast to join the Potomac River.
The area was originally situated in the large County of Augusta. In 1788, Pendleton County was created. However, the new county did not initially include the Doe Hill area, which remained in Augusta. A few years later Pendleton was extended farther south so that Doe Hill did became part of it. It remained in Pendleton County until 1847 when the new county of Highland was created. But it was only a short distance to the southern boundary of Pendleton. In 1863, Pendleton County became part of the new state of West Virginia, which was pro-Union, while Highland County remained part of Confederate Virginia.
Information on the Early Life of Samuel Wilson
A record in the family Bible of Judge William G. Hawkins, a grandson of Samuel’s brother George Wilson, indicates that George (and therefore also Samuel) was born in County Tyrone, Ireland:

Included is a copy of his [George Wilson’s] will in which he sets forth in great detail the
disposition he desired to make of his estate. From this we learn the
names of the children of his first marriage. Named also is his second wife,
born Sabina Stuart of Virginia, and their little son. The will also makes a
bequest to his nephew who is named as the son of his oldest brother. This
brother was the Captain Samuel Wilson of Virginia who was killed in
the famous Point Pleasant Battle with the Indians.
But of still greater interest for this sketch is his daughter Jane, a young
girl of sixteen at the time her father made his will, who later married
William Bullitt. After his death she took for her second husband William
Hawkins, the father of Judge William G. Hawkins, and finally after
being twice widowed, married for her third husband Colonel John
Minor of Greene County for whom this was also a third venture in
Matrimony. ...

Dr. Lenox Dial Baker (d.1995), a descendant of Samuel Wilson’s son Ralph, concluded that Samuel's wife Mary was the daughter of Peter Babb and Mary Lewis of West Caln Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania. He indicated that they were married 11 October 1753, presumably in Chester County. I have not been able to review his evidence in order to verify it to my own satisfaction. In his will, Peter Babb did mention a daughter named Mary Willson. Moreover, Samuel and Mary Wilson of Augusta County, Virginia did have a son variously identified as Elibab, Eli Babb, or Eli B. They also another son named Sampson, which is a recurring name in many Babb lineages. In fact, Peter Babb had a son named Sampson, who would therefore have been Mary’s brother. However, it should be noted that Peter Babb was a Quaker, whereas the Wilson brothers were not. (Peter’s son Sampson Babb was himself disowned by the Quakers in 1767 “for keeping and using a fiddle”.)

A Brief Summary of the Life of Elibab (Eli B.) Wilson
Elibab (Eli B., Eli Babb, etc.) Wilson was the second son of Samuel Wilson and his wife Mary.
[Note: As discussed above, Dr. Lenox Dial Baker, a descendant Samuel’s oldest son Ralph, believed that Mary was the daughter of Peter Babb and Mary Lewis of Chester County, Pennsylvania.]
By his own account, as given in his Revolutionary War pension application dated 3 October 1832, Eli B. Wilson gave his age as 77 years. (This yields a calculated year of birth of 1755.) He stated, “I was born on the farm on which I now Reside, and have Lived or Resided there Ever Since, Except when Chased or frightened away by the Indians (or on public Duty).”
[See a transcription of the pension application of Eli B. Wilson at http://revwarapps.org/s6401.pdf ]
(In the 1840 Pendleton County census, which was certified on 13 October 1840, in the columns for Revolutionary War pensioners, Eli B. Wilson’s age was listed as 84 years. This yields a calculated year of birth of 1756.)
Captain Samuel Wilson was killed by Indians at the Battle of Point Pleasant on 10 October 1774, and Elibab inherited the family farm.
By March of 1775, Samuel’s widow Mary had married neighboring landowner Abraham Haptonstall (aka Hempenstall). (The surnames Haptonstall and Hempenstall and slight spelling variations thereof were used interchangeably, as can be seen in various records.) Abraham had come to Virginia from New York in the 1760’s and was an early explorer of Kentucky. Shortly after the Revolutionary War, Abraham’s son Abraham Jr. and Abraham’s brother Isaac came to Virginia. In the 1780’s all three can be found living in Greenbrier County, Virginia. Elibab’s brothers Ralph and Sampson had also relocated to Greenbrier County.
Eli B. Wilson married Hannah Haptonstall/Hempenstall on 22 (or 29) October 1788, at which time he would have been about age 32 or 33.
Hannah was the daughter of Isaac, who gave his consent. Thus Hannah was under 21 at the time of the marriage.
In her Revolutionary War widow's pension application dated 3 June 1846, Hannah gave her age as 75 years, indicating she was born in 1771. Thus she would have been about age 17 when she married.
(It would seem that Abraham Haptonstall may have played matchmaker for his niece Hannah and his step-son Elibab.)
Elibab Wilson and Hannah had five sons and five daughters.
The sons were Eli, Samuel, William, John, and Abraham.
The daughters were Mary (Polly), Hannah, Ruth, Jane, and Elizabeth.
Eli B. Wilson died 11 November 1845, according to the pension application of his widow Hannah.

It appears that in the original record, John’s name was initially written as John Landes. Landes was then crossed out and Wilson was added. The transcriber evidently interpreted the crossed-out Landes as Louder and considered it to be his middle name.]

============================================================================
Some Subsequent History of the Children of Elibab (Eli B.) and Hannah Haptonstall
Eli Wilson
Nothing is known about Eli Wilson other than the fact that he was named in his father’s will on 9 Oct 1842. Thus on that date Eli was living as far as his father knew.
In the 1810 census, Elibab had in his household two males between the ages of 16 and 25 years. One of these was likely his son James and the other might well have been his son Eli. It is my suspicion that Eli may have been the oldest son and may have “gone went” some time between 1810 and 1820. It is not known if he married before leaving Pendleton County. Certainly no marriage record has been found. In addition, it is not known if he might have gone by any name other than simply “Eli”, such as “Eli B.” or “Eli” with some other middle initial or middle name.
Note: There are two other Eli Wilsons with which Eli the son of Elibab (Eli B.) Wilson and Hannah Haptonstall can be confused.
First, Elibab’s older brother Ralph had a son named Elibabb (also called Eli B.) who lived in Estill County, Kentucky in the early 1800’s and died in Missouri in 1841. There is an Estill County deed dated 9 March 1832 in which “Elibabb Willson” is named as one of the “heirs at law, of Ralph Willson, who died intestate”.
Second, at the time of his death in 1810, James Wilson had a minor son named Eli. Before 1830, the only Eli Wilson who appeared in the personal property tax records of Pendleton County, Virginia was “Wilson, Eli B.”. Then from 1830 to 1836 a “Wilson, Eli Jr” also appeared in the tax records. The “Jr” was used to distinguish him from the older Eli B. Wilson. In 1837, the name “Wilson, Eli H. Jr.” was used. And from 1838 to 1845 the name became simply “Wilson, Eli H.”. This smooth transition of the name through the years suggests he was the same individual from 1830 to 1845. The “H”, it is said, stood for “Hempenstall”. (Recall that Eli H. Wilson’s mother was Elizabeth Hempenstall, who was the sister or first cousin of Hannah Hempenstall/Haptonstall.) Eli H. Wilson died in Highland (formerly Pendleton) County, Virginia in 1851.
Just for the sake of completeness, below are a couple of Eli Wilsons found in census records who sort of match up with Eli the son of Elibab Wilson and Hannah Haptonstall. Not enough research has yet been done to demonstrate that they could not be Eli.
Mary (Polly) Wilson Armstrong
John and Mary Wilson Armstrong had five children, two sons--Jared M. and John W.-- and three daughters--Ann M., Mary W., and Mahala.
Daughter Mary married William B. Welch in 1833 in Pendleton County and moved to Ohio. There William Welch died. In November 1842 Mary married next Daniel Kirkendall. They later moved to Iowa.
Daughter Mahala married James T. Hull in 1837 in Pendleton County.
In late 1840 or in 1841, John and Mary Armstrong, their three unmarried children, and daughter Mahala Hull and her family, moved from Pendleton County to Lewis County, Virginia. In 1852 that part of Lewis where they lived was incorporated into the newly created Upshur County. In 1863, Upshur County became part of the new state of West Virginia, which was pro-Union during the Civil War.
On 12 September 1863, John W. Armstrong and his son Granville were captured by Confederates near Centerville while they were drilling as soldiers in a company of Upshur County militia. They were taken to the notorious Andersonville Prison in Georgia where they both died in 1864.
Mary Wilson Armstrong died near Frenchton, Upshur County, West Virginia some time in the 1860’s.
For more information on the family of Mary Wilson Armstrong, refer to
https://sites.google.com/site/sjzscertainfolksandevents/armstrongs-of-the-upper-bullpasture
Samuel Wilson
In 1822 Samuel Wilson began to appear in the personal property tax records of Pendleton County, Virginia.
Samuel Wilson wrote his will 30 Jun 183-. He named his wife Jane and son Hamilton Wilson. Other, younger children were referred to but not named.
The executors were his friends Jared Armstrong and Harmon Hiner. (Jared Armstrong was the brother of Samuel’s wife Jane. Moreover, Jared and Jane’s brother John Armstrong had married Samuel’s sister Mary (Polly) Wilson.)
The witnesses were Joseph Hook, William Wilson, and Joseph Hiner. (Joseph Hook(s) had married Samuel’s sister Hannah. William Wilson was probably Samuel’s brother.)
The will was proved by William Wilson and Joseph Hiner 6 August 1834.
[Note: some genealogies indicate that William Wilson married Catherine Hiner. Catherine Hiner, Harmon Hiner, and Joseph Hiner were children of John Hiner and Rachel Hoover.]
Ruth Wilson Seybert
Some time between 1860 and 1870, Isaac and Ruth Wilson Seybert moved from Highland County, Virginia to Cass County, Nebraska.
Ruth died there 10 Jan 1880. (See http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=69254138 )
Jane Wilson Daggy
John and Jane Wilson Daggy moved to Miami County, Indiana in the mid 1830’s.
On 10 Aug 1838, John Daggy received a land patent of 80 acres located in E1/2SE1/4 Sec 30 T29N R5E.

John Daggy died 8 Nov 1855.
In the 1870 census, Jane Daggy, age 54, was living in the household of her daughter Elizabeth and son-in-law George Dawald.
Jane Wilson Daggy died 18 March 1878 in Miami County, Indiana at age 70 years, 11 months, and 11 days.
She was buried in Weasaw Cemetery in Union Township, Miami County.
The inscription on her headstone reads:

[source: https://billiongraves.com/grave/JANE-DAGGY/6617591 ]
Based on the age given on her headstone, Jane Wilson Daggy’s calculated date of birth is 5 April 1807.
Hannah Wilson Hooks
Hannah was deceased by the time her father wrote his will on 9 October 1842.
Some time in the 1830’s Joseph Hooks moved his family to Miami County, Indiana. The 1840 census of Joseph Hooks household includes one male, age 50-60 (presumably Joseph himself) and one female, age 40-50. If this female was Hannah, then it means that she died in Indiana and that her father Eli B. Wilson had been made aware of her death before he wrote his will.
William Wilson
Although no marriage record has been found, some genealogies indicate that William Wilson married first Catherine Hiner, daughter of John Hiner and Rachel Hoover.
William Wilson appeared in the personal property tax records of Pendleton County in 1825 and 1826 and then again from 1830 to 1836. He then moved to Miami County, Indiana. In 1840 he was living in Peru Township, Miami County.
On 21 Oct 1849, William Wilson married Mary Amanda Shoup. Under REMARKS in their marriage record it stated “Both of age. Widow & Widower.”
Some genealogies indicate that William Wilson died 25 Apr 1875 in Indiana.
William Wilson had a son named Eli who had been born in Virginia in 1836. Eli Wilson married Martha P. F. Shirley on 9 Dec 1857. Under REMARKS in their marriage record it stated “Young Lady's Mother Sends consent with Step Husband.”
[Note: William Wilson’s brother Abraham M. Wilson had lived in Miami County, Indiana since about 1846. Abraham’s second wife was Ingabo Erwin Shirley, widow of Peter Shirley. Some genealogies say they had two children: Jonathan and Martha. Could the Martha Shirley who married Eli Wilson in 1857 been the daughter of Ingabo Erwin Shirley Wilson, and thus also have been the step-daughter of Abraham M. Wilson??]
By 1870 Eli Wilson had moved his family to Burlingame City, Osage Co., Kansas.
[Note: By 1870 Abraham M. Wilson was living nearby in Burlingame Township, Osage Co., Kansas.]
Abraham Wilson
Abraham Wilson appeared in the personal property tax records of Pendleton County from 1832 to 1840 and then again from 1842 to 1845. He then moved to Miami County, Indiana. Some time in the 1860’s he moved to Burlingame Township, Osage Co., Kansas. Perhaps Abraham’s family and the family of Eli Wilson (son of William) traveled together.
According to his headstone in Melvern Cemetery, Osage Co., Kansas, Abraham died Mar. 4, 1889. The headstone also states that he was born July 10, 1810.
(See https://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=54786468 )
John Wilson
John Wilson appeared in the personal property tax records of Pendleton County in 1825 and 1826 and then again from 1832 to 1843.
On 27 April 1843 John Wilson and his wife Hannah sold his interest in several tracts of land to Abraham M. Wilson. The tracts had been sold to John and Abraham by Eli B. Wilson 1830. In the 1843 transaction John's father was indicated to be Eli B. Wilson.
In 1850 John and Hannah Wilson and family were living in Lewis County, Virginia.
By 1860 they were living in Pleasant Township, Union Co. Iowa. Before settling in Iowa, they had lived a time in Indiana, where their son John was born.

Elizabeth Wilson Wilson
There is a record of George W. Wilson marrying Elizabeth Wilson on 3 June 1841 in Pendleton County, Virginia. The marriage bond was dated 22 May with signers of the bond being George W. Wilson and Abraham N[sic-M] Wilson.
(source: Marriages of Pendleton County, Virginia 1783-1853 (Now West Virginia), Revised by Jackie Puffenberger 1992-1193, page 68.)
As indicated on page 349 of Oren F. Morton’s History of Highland County, Virginia (1910), Elibab Wilson’s daughter Elizabeth married George Wilson.
Farther down on the same page, Morton indicated that George W. Wilson (son of William I, son of James (d.1810)) married Elizabeth Wilson and went to Missouri.
No further information. A search through the census records for 1850 and 1860 of all the states has failed to find a George and Elizabeth Wilson who were born in Virginia.

BENJAMIN E. WILSON, farmer and stock and grain dealer, of Miami County, is a native of Highland County, Virginia, born January 1, 1839. His parents, Abraham M. and Esther (Fleisher) Wilson, were natives of Highland County, Virginia; also, where the mother died. The father subsequently married Mrs. Ingals Shirley, and, in 1850, moved to Miami County, Indiana, where he resided until 1872, when he moved to Osage County, Kansas, where he still resides. He [i.e., Abraham] is the father of twelve children, viz: Sarah A., Benjamin E. and Eliza, by first wife, and George, Samuel B., Harrison F., Hannah, Elizabeth, Jarred M., John E. James and Mary, by last wife. Benjamin E., our subject, came with his parents to this county in 1850, and has resided here ever since. He was married in Richland Township, this county, January 14, 1864, to Mary B., daughter of James and Elizabeth (Spacht) Hollenshade. She was born in Preble County, Ohio, May 27, 1840. After Mr. Wilson's marriage, he settled upon the farm on which he now resides. He owns at present 609 acres of fine land, which is well improved and under a high state of cultivation. He has had born to him four children, viz: Charles E., born December 10, 1864; Rosie E., born March 12, 1867: James J., born January 9, 1869, and Leon T., born June 8, 1883. History of Miami County, Indiana: From the Earliest Time to the Present,
with Biographical Sketches, Notes, Etc., Together with an Extended History
of the Northwest, the Indiana Territory, and the State of Indiana
Brant & Fuller, 1887 - Miami County (Ind.) - 812 pages

MICHAEL HINER, an old and highly esteemed pioneer of Miami County,
Indiana, is a native of Highland County, Virginia, and was born-July 10,
1819. His parents, John and Rachel (Hoover) Hiner, were also both natives of
Highland County, Virginia, and of Scotch-Irish[sic-German] extraction. The
former, John Hiner, was a son of John and Margaret (Burner) Hiner, who were
married in Highland County, Virginia, where they resided until deaths. They
were the parents of eleven children, viz: Alexander, Joseph, Jacob, Herman,
John, Esther, Jemima, Molly, Mary, Jane and Lucinda. John Hiner, the father
of our subject, and Rachel Hoover, were united in marriage in Highland
County, Ohio[sic-Virginia], and from thence in 1836, moved to Miami County,
Indiana, settling in Peru Township, where they afterward resided until
death. They were the parents of nine children, viz: Margaret, Mariah,
Catherine, Herman, Elizabeth, Michael, Eli, John and Joseph. ...
[Note: Presumably, this Catherine Hiner married William Wilson.]
