Writing Narratives: Orientation
1. Read the following narrative orientations aloud. You will need to repeat each orientation 2-3 times.
2. You need to identify who, what, when, where and why of each orientation.
Orientation 1: The Haunted Forest In a faraway place, just south of the little town of Bawley Point, two travellers gathered their thoughts on how they were going to get past the demon of the forest. The sun was beginning to set, so they had to think quick. At last, they came to an agreement; they would enter the haunted woods and cut off the giant demon’s head. |
Orientation 2: The Old Toy Box One summer’s evening, out in the countryside, in the corner of a quiet bedroom, there sat an old toy box full of magical things. Sarah, the bedroom owner, looked at her sister, Theresa, and said, “Let me show you my beautiful grand castle.” As she reached for the toy box, the Fairy King sprang it open from inside. |
Orientation 3: The Spotty Octopus Many years ago in the deep blue sea, there lived a spotty octopus. He was the most fantastic octopus in the entire ocean. He had sparkly, shiny spots, and the other sea creatures were amazed at his beauty. They called him Spotty Octopus. The other sea creatures often asked if they could play together but he would just swim swiftly past them. |
Orientation 4: Hansel and Gretel A long time ago, in a cottage at the edge of the dark forest, there lived two brilliant children named Hansel and Gretel. They lived with their loving father and their horrible, mean stepmother, who was jealous because the father loved them more than he loved her. One night, the children overhead their stepmother tell their father that she was going to take the two of them to pick firewood in the forest. She planned to leave them in the forest, but the father disagreed. The cruel and evil stepmother nagged him continuously until, finally, the father gave in to her revolting plan. |
Orientation 5: The Sick Princess Many, many years ago in a country far away, there lived a prince named Andrew and a princess named Rebecca. They lived in a beautiful palace. It was a paradise made of marble and diamonds. Prince Andrew and Princess Rebecca liked to go for long walks together. Every day, they would walk around the lovely luscious lawns of the palace. One day, Princess Rebecca became very sick with the flu. She had a temperature, her head ached and she felt very tired. She could not go for walks with Prince Andrew anymore. |
