Black History Presentation:
Use any of the following methods to teach the class about slavery, The Underground Railroad, Segregation/Civil Rights Movement, or discrimination today. You may work alone, with a partner, or in a small group.
You can teach the class through ANY of the options below:
- Re-enact a historical moment (group of 2-4 kids, in person or record on Flip Grid)
- Dress up as a historical figure and give a 1-2 minute speech on their lives (Ideas: Claudette Colvin, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Harriet Tubman, Ruby Bridges, Rosa Parks, Robert Sengstacke Abbott, Gwendolyn Brooks, Jesse Owens, Jane Bolin, Mae Jemison, Phillis Wheatley, Malcom X, Frederick Douglass, Barack Obama, Thurgood Marshall, Ella Baker, Shirley Chrisholm, W.E.B. Du Bois, Maya Angelou, etc.) (Option: record on Flip Grid)
- Create a slideshow to teach the class about a historical figure or event
- Collect a variety of 10 artifacts from black history to show the class (ads, photographs, artwork, sound recordings, video clips, poetry, music, etc.)
- Create a Flip Grid video interviewing someone important in black history
- Write a poem, song, or rap about the struggle for equal rights (Option: record on Flip Grid)
- Create a comic to teach the class about a historical figure or event
- Create a piece of artwork that shows a powerful moment in black history
- Any other mode you would like to use to teach the class (just get approval first)
Goal: Summarize main ideas or events in correct order with DETAILS!
H= Very informative, highly engaging, AND brings the historical moment to life with 10+ details and in correct order
S+= Very informative, engaging, with 7-9 details in correct order
S= Informative and engaging but with only 5-6 details in correct order
S-= Somewhat engaging, but there are only 3-4 details or errors in the order of events
N= Presentation only includes 1-2 facts or has major errors in the order events
