An initial GPS survey of the entire LRYC mooring field was completed 2015-07. This includes an outline of the North, South fields and all perimeter buoys. Depths were also taken at the perimeter and along the docks. Finally, all member mooring buoys and winter sticks were plotted.

All are plotted on a live Google Map, which means that the map you see is the latest data, updated in real time. All plotted objects should be within a few meters of actual location. An estimate was made as to where the mooring block may be based on the buoy downline slope.

On the left of the map display you may display/hide various layers.

Two layers of interest, the Grid and the Moorings. Deselect layers to help reduce clutter. zoom in to see more details. I have no control over the map's background satellite image. It just so happens that the North field is a Winter image and the South field a newer Summer image with boats on moorings at the time.

The multi-year goal is to realign moorings to the LRYC grid. This will provide clear motoring paths through the field and enable LRYC to safely accommodate more boats. The grid is being laid to avoid as few moves of existing moorings as practical. There is a selectable layer on the left “Grid...” or “Moorings…” which shows/hides the detail,with gold crosses at the grid points and inverted wnite tear drop at mooring points. The grid provides both a 30m (100ft) and a 24m (80ft) grid for boats of various length and swing. The smaller grid lines are near shore in shoal waters for boat with little draft and length. LRYC has secured the proposed mooring field boundary from the Department of Natural Resources.  New member moorings will be placed on the grid in spots not already designated for realignment moves. Current member moorings out of grid alignment need not be moved until the next maintenance inspection cycle or the member requests a move. Members must contact the Rear Commodore for mooring changes and negotiate a mooring location on the grid. Members must have an approved grid location prior to moving or placing a mooring. This agreed upon position will be marked with a temporary buoy as a target for mooring placement and avoid the hassle of relocation!

It is difficult to place a block exactly on the grid point. So moorings within a few meters of the grid that do not cause issues with neighbouring moorings are acceptable.

I recommend that the grid location and the name or registration number of your vessel be marked on your buoy. A fat permanent marker will last a season.

There are several unknown mooring buoys. You may find at the grid location marked on the top of your buoy if left unmarked. I would appreciate an email regarding any updates you wish to note on the map. Please click on the buoy icon and copy the grid location (such as S3-5) in the pop-up box when emailing details about a mooring. If no icon exists for your location, copy the grid location of buoys on either side as reference.
