NJHS News

On Thursday, January 28th, twenty-one Queen City STEM School Secondary (6-9) graders were inducted into the Queen City STEM School chapter of the National Junior Honor Society, class of 2020-2021.

To be selected, they showed leadership, citizenship, scholarship, character, and service. The NJHS applicants' entries were studied and sifted through by teachers to ensure that they met all these requirements.

Beginning the ceremony, National Junior Honor Society Advisor & QCSS Student Success Educator, Mr. David O. Cunningham led the virtual audience in the Pledge of Allegiance and shared about the Rich History and 5 Pillars of the NJHS. The Principal, Mr. Marko Alkan, introduced & Close-out the evening by Congratulating the Members; Ms. Gordon, QCSS Dean of Students (6-10), was in attendance.

The ceremony was honored to have Ms. Ariel Perry, QCSS College Counselor, as our Keynote Speaker. She shared eloquently about the 5 Pillars of the NJHS: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Character & Citizenship. Then Mr. Kurt Garfield, QCSS Educator, who was also one of our Membership Committee Advisors, read off the New NJHS Inductees. We were also honored to have a few visitors from our Central Office: Ms. Krystle Favreau, Student Services Director, Ms. Mussarut Jabeen, Director of Curriculum & Mr. Eray Idil, Deputy Superintendent.

We want to give a special thanks to our NJHS Membership committee, Mr. Baptist, Mr. Garfield, Ms. Ahmed, Ms. Pope, and Ms. Perry. We would also like to thank Mr. Kurt Garifeld for photographing the new members, their families, and QCSS Staff.
