A guide to the 5-card Blind Standard Edition

What is the blind?

It’s a casual format made to be played like a forum game. The entire logic of it is based on the fact that you need nothing more than a decklist to play!

Ok! But what does 5-card Standard Blind mean?

5-card means what you think it does. The deck is made of 5 cards, lands included. Standard just means the deck should be standard legal. (If you’re not sure about which cards are standard legal click here)

This is all nice, but how do you play a 5-card game?

An excellent question! Both players have a starting hand of their entire deck. They don’t lose the game during the draw step when they draw from an empty library.

Yes, but how will I know I played each game perfectly?

There’s the fun part! Since the game is played on perfect information, none of the players need to be present for the calculation of results. The judge team will handle everything!

So all I need to do is send in my decklist, the tournament will play itself, and I will be informed about the results?

Exactly! The only thing we need from you is to think hard, which 5 standard legal cards are going to be your dream team! ;)

That’s awesome! But I’d like an example to make sure I understand how the game works.

Absolutely! So, we have these decks:

Player 1: Plains, Plains, Skymarcher Aspirant , Skymarcher Aspirant, Skymarcher Aspirant
Player 2: Mountain, Mountain, Mountain, Goblin Chainwhirler, Goblin Chainwhirler

You can see that no matter how Player 1 sequences his spells, Player 2 wins, either on the play, or on the draw. So, Player 2 gets 6 points (3 for each victory) and Player 1 gets 0 points. The matchup of course can be (much) more complex than this!

Great, I want to take part! But I have another question...

Send you question to one of us. We’ll be glad to help you! :)
