INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY ACTION WITH UKRAINE, 24 FEBRUARY 2024
Proposal to be discussed in each national or local ENSU committee before having a dedicated meeting to discuss it in network.
- The aim is to promote an international united action of solidarity with Ukraine with the participation of trade union organisations, internationalist solidarity groups, democratic organisations and representative and elected officials (of cities, parliaments, governments...) during the week that will begin the third year of war.
- The name of the action could be International Solidarity Delegation with Ukraine, echoing the international worker solidarity in defence of the Spanish Republic besieged by national and international fascism. In this case the concrete action would not be an armed action, as was the case with the International Brigades to Spain, but a manifestation of all kinds of solidarity that the participants could bring: material, cultural, public acts, agreements for future cooperation, etc.
- The objective is also political: to strengthen the trade unions, democratic and internationalist organisations in Ukraine by carrying out some public activities in some Ukrainian cities.
- It is also a propaganda objective: to attract the attention of the Ukrainian and international media to show that there is solidarity between peoples, individuals and democratic activists who demand solidarity with Ukraine from their own governments.
- This popular character is not in contradiction with also having contact with the Ukrainian government and authorities to express our support from an anti-imperialist and democratic point of view.
- The action would be promoted and organised by ENSU, but in an open way with other trade union and political organisations and elected people in solidarity with Ukraine.
- At the same time such an action would help ENSU to strengthen its internal links and teamwork.
- In order to see if such an action is possible and give it a concrete form we need to know the opinion of the comrades of SR, of the two Ukrainian trade unions FPU and KVPU, of feminist and democratic organisations.
- We would also need to know the opinion of the Ukrainian government and local authorities and whether we could count on some logistical support for a week.
- Finally, a variant of such a Brigade, in my opinion recommendable for its impact on propaganda and within the left organisations and trade unions themselves, would be to include in it trade unionists, democratic militants and those in solidarity with Ukraine from the aggressor and accomplice countries: Russia and Belarus, as well as from other nations suffering from Russian imperialism and colonialism.
