Attendance Policy - Compliance

Attendance Policy

This policy is applicable to all pupils in the School

including those in an EYFS setting.

Cheadle Hulme School is committed to promoting the welfare of our pupils through regular school attendance. Regular attendance in School is essential to a child’s attainment, wellbeing and wider development.

We take our responsibility regarding the safeguarding of our pupils seriously and this policy has been established in order to support our commitment to:

  • Promote good and regular attendance by providing an environment and ethos where all pupils feel safe, can build positive relationships with their peers and achieve their full potential in line with our Waconian Values (Endeavour, Respect, Integrity, Compassion, Contribution) and Pillars (Active, Altruistic, Academic);
  • Involve all staff, pupils, parents/carers, Governors and outside agencies in promoting good attendance;
  • Ensure that accurate registers of attendance are kept;
  • Ensure we can account for the whereabouts of our pupils throughout the School day.
  • Promote punctuality;
  • Monitor individual pupil attendance;
  • Identify and understand any barriers to attendance;
  • Work closely with families to support our pupils in School;
  • Working Together to improve school attendance 2026 is statutory guidance and therefore the School has regard to it as part of their efforts to maintain high levels of school attendance and must work with local authority children’s services where school absence indicates safeguarding concerns.

Absence during term time will only be authorised under exceptional circumstances and requests should be made according to the Attendance and Absence Guidelines and Procedures. The School will always consider each application individually, taking into account the specific facts and circumstances, and the relevant background context behind the request.

This policy will be accessible to parents/carers through the Policies Portal which is accessed from the School website.
