Dear School Community,
As stated in our previous communication, the District will continue to reevaluate Covid-19 protocols and our face covering policy on a monthly basis. Minerva Local Schools will continue to require face coverings for all students and staff inside all buildings and school sponsored transportation through the month of October.
The District recognizes that our school community has varying opinions on continuing this mandate. However, it has allowed us to keep our students and staff in school accessing instruction and participating in normal school activities.
In the month of September, the District investigated 34 positive Covid-19 cases with a test date occurring in the month of September, bringing our total cases to date to 62 cases. Wearing a face covering throughout the month of September significantly reduced the number of students who would have needed to quarantine. The Q & A document has been updated to show our most recent data and is available here.
The District monitors student and staff absences due to close contact with a positive case in the home, community, and extracurriculars. As evident in that local monitoring, there has been an increase in cases in the Community. You can follow those numbers by visiting the Ohio Department of Health’s Covid Dashboard: https://coronavirus.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov/covid-19/dashboards/current-trends
Again, the decision to wear face coverings gives Minerva Local Schools the best opportunity to keep the greatest number of students and staff in their classrooms and participate in normal school activities.
I appreciate your patience and continued collaboration as we navigate our way through this pandemic. The community continues to prioritize the health and well-being of our most valuable assets, our students.
Mr. Gary Chaddock
