Newsletter No 3, April 2018

Let’s start!

We have just begun the Testing Phase of the “Tourismed” Project in all partner countries.

SECOND STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING

Cyprus - Limassol (Cyprus) 24-25 Jannuary 2018

The second project Meeting was realized in Cyprus (Limassol) among all the partners.

During the meeting the partners discussed about the project results and the further implementation of the testing phase.

All the partners agreed to start the testing phase on April, in order to ensure the right execution of the fishermen's training in all the partner countries.

TOURISMED TRAINING PROGRAMME

TOURISMED  is a project aimed at testing and transferring a fishing tourism business model in the coastal territories of Italy, Cyprus, Greece, Albania, France and Spain as a way to promote a sustainable approach to tourism, while fostering the preservation of the marine ecosystem and traditional fishing culture of the MED region.

As a response, the project objective is to promote fishing tourism as a sustainable coastal and maritime tourism practice in the MED area. Expected changes concern an improved use of resources by artisanal fishers, a diversification of income in the sector and a better valorization of coastal traditional heritage and local seafood.

The project has produced a pilot test of the model and an evaluation tool to assess its replication in the concerned area. This pilot is the object of a training courses just begun that are involving fishermen to implement the touristic itineraries in synergy with local tourism operators.

With the newly acquired skills, the fishermen will be able to run a business that won’t damage the natural environment in which they operate while contributing in improving their economic condition and value their profession also under a different perspective.

The training is going to begin in April and are implemented in project partners’ countries.

Made In Med

A delegation of Tourismed's project team was invited in the Made In Med event in Rome. The project was mentioned during one of the panels.

The Made In Med event in Rome presented the first results of 90 projects through a conference and an exhibition during  two days.

It was an opportunity to convey the idea and values of co-working, knowledge sharing and innovation but also to look towards the future of cooperation in the Mediterranean. The conference was articulated around three transversal themes: climate change, blue economy and inclusive growth.

For Tourismed’ s partnership it was a great opportunity to see how the 90 projects' results are having a concrete impact and to understand what projects are doing and achieving. It was also a good experience to compare the partners experiences each other and with high-level national and European representatives.
