Tales From Grevelon

S2E10: Freaky Fronsday

Official Transcript

Talya:

Hey, guys. Actually, wait. I have a message-I have a message for the audience.

Katie:

This is the cold open, actually. This is the cold open.

Talya:

I have a message for the audience, guys.

Katie:

Yeah.

Talya:

Hey, friends. Thanks for listening. Y'all should listen to this podcast. It's so funny.

[Talya chuckles]

Katie:

Tal-so this is the big news. Talya listened to an episode of this podcast.

Talya:

[Overlapping] -to an episode of the podcast.

[Thomas laughs]

Katie:

I asked her because I really-I really, really love the episode where we were-

Talya:

“Crime me a River” Episode 6.

Katie:

“Crime Me a River” I really love “Crime Me a River.” I thought it was so good, and I said, “Talya, please, if you're going to listen to one episode, listen to ‘Crime me a River.’”

[Katie chuckles]

Talya:

Guys, have you listened to that episode?

[Talya chuckles]

Katie:

Yes! I have!

Thomas:

Yeah! Yes, I have.

Samkit:

It’s really good.

Talya:

No, I'm talking to the audience. Y'all should listen to the episode. It’s fantastic.

Katie:

Yeah.

Samkit:

One of my favorites.

Talya:

I'm so funny at it.

[Samkit and Talya chuckle]

Thomas:

If this-if this is your first episode, welcome-

Talya:

You should listen to episode six.

Thomas:

-you're incredibly brave for starting with the finale of season two, and I love you for that.

Katie:

Yeah, that’s really fun of you.

Talya:

They actually-they podcast the way I puzzle, in that they start at the end and work their way back.

[Talya laughs]

Katie:

Yeah, terrible.

Samkit:

That’s terrible.

Thomas:

I would love to hear from someone who does start from the end of this season and works their way backwards, episode by episode, and seeing, like, what they learn, finding the origin of bits. That would be really fun to hear. Hey, if you do that-if you did that, let us know.

Talya:

Let us know.

Katie:

Yeah, and also, I hope that you didn't.

Samkit:

Yeah.

Talya:

And also I hope that you didn’t. I will-I will say the issue with that is you’re ending on the worst episode we've ever recorded.

[Talya laughs and Katie screeches with laughter]

Talya:

Season one-

Katie:

Okay so this is what you need to do. You start with this one, you go back, you skip “Crime Me A River.”

Talya:

Yeah.

Katie:

You listen to all the other ones. And then you end on “Crime me a River.”

Talya:

[Overlapping] -end on season two, episode six. Yeah.

Katie:

Yeah.

Thomas:

Yeah.

Talya:

Don't end on season one, episode one. It's not good.

Thomas:

It’s-

Katie:

Have you-did you listen to it?

Talya:

I tried.

[Samkit guffaws]

Katie:

And that's why you never listened to another episode again? You thought every other episode-

Thomas:

[Overlapping] Listen, it’s good. It’s a pilot episode.

Talya:

It’s fine.

Katie:

It’s fine.

Thomas:

No pilot is good, really.

Samkit:

Hey, Sully? That's a great pilot.

[Thomas guffaws]

Talya:

Which one? Sully-

[Talya joins Thomas in laughing hard]

Katie:

Oh. My. God.

Talya:

[Laughing] That took me a second.

[Samkit laughs]

Thomas:

That was a really good joke, Samkit. That might be your best joke you’ve ever made.

Katie:

That was pretty good. I think it's going to go over a lot of people's heads.

Talya:

No, that's-no, there was a Tom Hanks movie.

Samkit:

For that to be called the best joke I've ever made-

Talya:

Yeah, it's downhill from here.

Samkit:

-hurts and also makes me happy.

[Intro music fades in]

Talya:

-just like, listening to the podcast backwards. It's downhill from here.

[Talya and Katie laugh]

[cheerful, upbeat music]

Thomas:

Hello, folks and friends, and welcome to Tales From Grevelon. I am your Tale Keeper, Thomas Pflanz. I am joined by Talya Shatzky.

Talya:

Ashallynniamehra Ginggleppossumm, a fairy talent agent. Jittery and melodic.

Thomas:

Ooh. Very fun.

Katie:

Beautiful.

Thomas:
Katie Siegel.

Katie:

Lenral Lyndambar. Elven handyperson. Keen and a smol bean.

[Talya gasps]

Samkit:

Awww.

Thomas:

[Cringing] Lord.

[Talya cringes happily]

Samkit:

Both aw and millennial cringe.

[Thomas chuckles]

Talya:

Aw, I loved it. I want to put you in my pocket.

Thomas:

Well yeah-yes, Talya. Millennial cringe, we know.

[Samkit laughs]

Katie:

Well yeah, we know you like-

[Katie and Thomas also laugh]

Katie:

Yes! Yeahhh!!

Talya:

Guys, I know I'm the oldest, but you don't have to rub it in.

Katie:

Every time Talya sends a GIF in our chat, I'm like, “Oh, right.”

[Samkit chuckles]

Talya:

“Yeah, she was born”-I mean, Katie, you were also born in ‘97.

Thomas:

The GIF sickness.

Katie:

“Oh, right. She's one month older than me.”

[Thomas and Samkit chuckle]

Talya:

Yeah. That's correct.

Thomas:

And Samkit Siyal.

Samkit:

Paatarak. Unemployed, I guess? Maybe an arcartographer? Who knows? Lost-y and frosty.

Talya:

Nice. Love that.

[Thomas groans]

Katie:

Yeah.

Talya:

I also thought “unemployed” was going to be your adjective.

[Talya chuckles]

Thomas:

I also thought that for a second.

[Katie and Samkit chuckle]

Thomas:

But, lost-y and frosty is a choice.

Talya:

Lost-y and frosty.

Samkit:

It’s certainly a choice.

Thomas:

And I love it.

[Chime]

Thomas:

Today we find our group of eclectic travelling companions awakening underground, disoriented. However, before we get ahead of ourselves, I have an important question for all of you: why are y'all mad at each other?

[The characters talk over each other]

Thomas:

[Drowned out by the noise] Wait, wait, wait. Hold on. One second. [Getting more aggressive] Excuse me. Sorry. [Yelling to get their attention] Hey, hey. HEY! FOLKS!

[The chatter stops]

Thomas:

Let's take this one at a time. Paatarak?

Paatarak [Samkit]:

I have a very specific system for how I organize things in my pack because I need to be able to access things very quickly if I see a change or if I see something new, and also if something is in the wrong place and I can't get to it, it frustrates me. Ash has a tendency to put stuff in my bag, which I don't really get upset about, but for some reason this time she took out something, put her own thing in, and then put my stuff right back on top. And the thing she moved was my compass. I need my compass. I can't function without my compass. And I couldn't find it for five minutes and it frustrated me.

Thomas:

Thank you for sharing. Lenral?

Lenral [Katie]:

So Paatarak really needs his compass, and, you know, he's coming into this new era of something that he's figuring out, and he came to me, his friend, and said, “Hey, Lenral, as my friend and a handyperson-I am interested in becoming an arcartographer, and I would really like a compass staff.” And I'm like, “Paatarak, my friend who I've known for many years, who knows me. I would love to help you in this endeavor, and I can absolutely make you a compass staff.” And then he hands me…instructions to build a compass staff. And I said, “Paatarak, my good friend, I don't need these. Respectfully, I've got it.” And he said, “No, no. Lenral, please use these instr-” And I said, “No, no, no, please, I don't need the instructions.” And he kept insisting I use the instructions like I don't know how to build a compass staff. It just felt a little unnecessary. I was trying to do something nice for my friend, and then he's like, “No, actually, you have to do it this specific way” and it just, kind of, made me a little- [Lenral devolves into incoherent, angry ranting] Yeah. You know how you get like that sometimes? Anyone? Anyone?

Thomas:

Thank you for sharing.

Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah. [clears throat uncomfortably]

Thomas:

Ash.

Ash [Talya]:

So Paatarak asked Len to build him a compass staff, and so Len was going to try to get some materials for, you know, the new project for Paatarak. So Lenral was trying to procure materials, and he was talking to this merchant, and I was like, “Lenral, I can help. I can help get a better deal. Like, I usually get, like, at least, like, one or two ryn coins off, you know, because I know how to talk to merchants.” And he was just-at this point, I'm just hearing the merchant just adding ryn coins onto the price for him, and he wouldn't even let me try to help. And honestly, no wonder he's from the Towering Forest, the way he towers over me.

Thomas:

Thank you for sharing.

[Talya chuckles causing Katie and Samkit to chuckle]

[curious, plucky music starts]

Thomas:

On a regular Fronsday, our group was on their way to the town of Priloshi Vale, a center of arcane magic to the southwest of the Marshlands, when they came across an old lady. She told them.

Old Lady [Thomas]:

My pet, my sweet Froncine, ran into a sinkhole and continued deep underground. I used to be an adventurer myself, but these knees don't work how they used to. Could you be dears and help an old woman out?

Thomas:

Despite their current tensions, the group followed her to the sinkhole and began to make their way down. Though, the next minutes are only a blur in their memories as they wake up on the stony cavern floor.

[Music ends]

Thomas:

Something doesn't feel quite right.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

[groaning] Something doesn't feel quite right.

[Katie and Samkit groan]

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Why do my shoulders hurt?

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

And my stomach is all queasy.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

And there's something on my-AHH! AHH! WHAT IS THAT?!

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

AH WHO ARE YOU?! Why do you look like me?!

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Who are you?!

[The cast chuckles]

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Are you Hosh? No, Hesh. Are you Hesh?!

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Namrys alive, Ranrule is, like, 800ft tall!

[curious, plucky music starts]

Thomas:

As you all look around, Lenral,  you notice these large fluttering things on your back, almost like dragonfly/butterfly wings, and you look around, you're wearing a lovely suit.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Oh, what a lovely suit.

[Talya chuckles]

Thomas:

Ash, you feel very-you, like, get up. Your, like, back, kind of, hurts.

Talya:

My posture sucks.

[Samkit quietly laughs]

Thomas:

Your-your posture is not great. And you start to sneeze, and suddenly your trunk sneezes out way in front of you. You have a trunk right now. And, Paatarak, as you get up, you feel yourself tall. You feel like, pretty fit and energized, actually, for maybe the first time.

[Thomas and Talya chuckle]

Katie:

Maybe, like, handsome and muscular.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Oh my god, I feel great!

Talya:

Really charismatic.

Thomas:

And you instinctively reach for a hammer right next to you and, kind of, pick it up and use it to help yourself get up. You all have swapped bodies.

[Music ends]

[The players scream in unison]

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

How did-how did this happen? How do how-what-what?

Katie:

Lenral is spinning in circles, trying to get a closer look at his wings.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

You're gonna make yourself dizzy. Trust me. Don't do that!

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Ohhh…

Katie:

He falls over.

[Talya and Thomas chuckle]

[Katie groans]

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

I feel like I got a pretty good deal out of this. I feel really good in my body.

[The cast laughs]

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

I feel more limber than I’ve felt since I was, like, eight.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

How old are you now?

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Older than eight!

[Katie chuckles]

Thomas:

You, kind of, hit your head on the cavern ceiling because-

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Ow!

Thomas:

-you’re, like, kind of tall.

[Talya chuckles]

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah, it's not all it's cracked up to be, huh?

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Ash, you need to talk louder.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

I'm not Ash! I’m Lenral!

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

[Overlapping, loudly] Okay, I will!

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

OH. Okay. Oh. One quick piece of advice. The trunk makes you louder.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Oh. [pause] Am I supposed to hold it? I don’t know-

[The cast laughs hard]

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

[Trying to power through the laugh] No-

[Samkit joins back in on the continuing laughter]

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

It just kind of does its own thing, you know? You'll understand it in a second, I guess.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

How do you not just go cross-eyed looking at it all day?

[The players chuckle]

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Oh, you kind of get used to it after a while.

Katie:

Lenral climbs to his little feet and starts, like, trying to get control over the wings, because he's honestly kind of curious about flying. He's wanted to fly-canonically, he's wanted to fly ever since he was a kid.

Thomas:

Yeah.

Samkit:

Yeah.

Katie:

We've all gone through that phase and finally-

Samkit:

We’ve all gone through that phase.

Katie:

-he has a chance. So he just starts, kind of, like, hopping and like, kind of, like, flapping his arms like the chicken dance, trying to, like-

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

No, no, not the arms. It's not the arms. It's in the back, in the shoulders, in the back.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Okay.

Katie:

He does, like, a little shimmy.

[Thomas laughs]

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Too much-too much shoulder. Too much shoulder.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Too much shoulder? Okay. Just, like, medium shoulder? Okay.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

And-uh-keep your elbows, uh, not moving. Don't move your elbows!

[Talya chuckles]

Katie:

He falls over again.

Samkit:

Lenral’s going to pick-er, Lenral. Paatarak is gonna pick Lenral up.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Oh, whoa, whoa! Okay! Whoa! Careful there. Watch the merchandise.

[Thomas and Samkit chuckle]

Paatarak Ash [Talya]

Yeah, mine! My merchandise!

Samkit:

Lenral-er-Paatarak holds-Jesus. Paatarak holds out his hand.

Katie:

[Chuckling, overlapping] How is this happening??

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Wait. Is that what I look like? I'm so cute.

[The cast laughs]

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

How did this happen, and how do we undo it?

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah, we have to figure this out.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Sorry, Paatarak, but I want my body back.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

No. That's understandable. I-this is nice, but I want my body back too.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

I just realized I could scratch my back.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Oh, yeah.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Can I not scratch my back?

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

No, there's wings in the way.

[Thomas chuckles]

Katie:

Lenral tries to scratch his back.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

I use my nose to scratch my back.

[Pause]

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Oh, like now, as Paatarak.

[Thomas and Samkit laugh]

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Yeah, as Paatarak.

Samkit:

[Laughing] I thought you meant just normally.

Thomas:

Oh, boy.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

And that was really confusing to me. I couldn't figure that one out. Yeah, it is a little-it is a little. I mean, I usually use my staff to scratch my back, so I don't really-

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

[Overlapping] Oh, I'm gonna try that.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Do you have anything-?

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Oh that is nice.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah. And when I make you your staff-

Katie:

And then Lenral falls silent, remembering the compass staff disagreement that they had.

Samkit:

Yeah.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Well, if you had a staff.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Well, I could have had a staff.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

You could have. You could have if you just, you know, let me-let me make one.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

I think there's running water nearby. I have to pee.

[Katie chuckles]

Katie:

That’s not what it is!

Thomas:

No, it’s run. You have to run.

Katie:

That’s not the lore!

Thomas:

You have to run!

Katie:

Honestly, that is the most Paatarak thing you can do is make up new lore about Paatarak.

[The cast chuckles]

[puzzling, plucky music starts]

Thomas:

You see that you were in this cavern. You don't see the, like, opening where you all came in through. In fact, this seems like a different material than, like, kind of the sandy, dirty sinkhole you, like, fell into. And all there is, is an opening in the rock ahead of you, leading into darkness.

[Music ends]

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

We have got to stop trusting old women in the woods.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Is that the lesson? I feel like that still is really putting a lot on one person that affects a really large demographic.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah. No, I guess that is fair.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Paatarak, I get the sandwich thing now, though.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Right?

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Oh, now that you're in Paatarak’s body, you're-you feel like a sandwich thief?

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Yeah.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

You get hungrier.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Yeah, no defi-there's a lot more mass to feed.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah. It's why I have so much back pain.

[The cast chuckles]

[puzzling, plucky music starts]

Thomas:

You all start making your way down this corridor. Suddenly, you see torchlight becoming brighter and brighter as you walk further down, and you walk out into a coldly lit room filled with ice. There's just a bunch of ice on the ground, like smooth ice in this entire, kind of, oval chamber with another corridor on the-not the exact opposite side, but, kind of, off and to, like, the right, so there's, like, no perfect exact straight angle there. There's, kind of, like, rocks throughout the place that you could, like, maybe, like, bump into and stop yourself, but, you just have this, like, ice rink basically.

[Music ends]

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Lenral, be careful. Your shoes aren't the most slip resistant. They don't have the best traction.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Paatarak, my boots have great traction.

[Katie chuckles]

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah, they-I’m feeling it.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

You’re living large, buddy. Literally.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Paatarak, have you never worn shoes?

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah. No, I don't wear shoes, but-decent traction.

[Rummaging sound]

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Do you have any socks in here?

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

No, don’t. No-

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

No?

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

I don't keep socks in that bag. It's in a different bag.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Oh, okay.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Feels like there's a lot of tension between you two and Paatarak’s bags. I'm just reading the situation in this ice cavern right now.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

It's just the ice.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

We should break it.

Talya

Nice!

Samkit:

That was nothing. That was nothing.

Talya:

No, I loved it, actually.

Samkit:

[Chuckling] It really wasn't. It was bad.

[Thomas is chuckling]

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Hey, Ash. Out of the bag, can you-can you hand me the third map from the right side of the bag? The left bag, not the right bag?

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Okay, so first I have to figure out how you grab things.

[Thomas laughs]

Katie:

[Chuckling] Don't think too hard about it.

Thomas:

[Chuckling] Don’t think too hard about it. Just figure it-

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

[Chuckling] Just-don’t think too hard about it. Just put your-

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

[Chuckling] I also have to figure out how to do my Ls with your hands.

Katie:

[Chuckling] Left, simply.

Thomas:

[Chuckling] Don’t think about it.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

[Chuckling] Don't think too hard about it. It comes naturally.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Okay. Can you repeat the instructions, please?

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

The third map from right in the left side bag.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

[Overlapping] Yeah, Paatarak loves instructions.

[Rummaging sound effect]

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Alright, Lenral. Alright.

[Sound effect ends]

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Okay. Is this the one you want?

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yes. Yep. That's it. Thank you.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

For-for sure.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Can you put me down? I'm kind of bored up here.

[Thomas chuckles]

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Yeah.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

[Simultaneously with Talya] Yeah, here.

Katie:

Who's holding me right now?

Thomas:

Right now, Paatarak in Lenral’s body is holding Lenral in Ash’s body.

Katie:

Okay. Yeah.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah. All right, here you go. I need the hand to hold the map anyway.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Good luck keeping up, though.

Talya:

And I walk ahead.

[Katie and Thomas chuckle]

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Oh.

Thomas:

[Chuckling] You walk out onto the ice and you're immediately just, like, kind of, start sliding forward.

Talya:

Good.

Thomas:
Yeah. You, like, slide for, like, a good 40 feet, and, you're kind of stopped by, like a larger rock up ahead of you.

Talya:

Uh…okay!

[Katie and Samkit chuckle]

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Okay. Well, judging by-judging by this cavern system, it looks like this sinkhole, doesn't exist before and hasn't, so I actually have no information on this, and, uh, this is useless, so that feels great for me. I'm gonna give this map back to-

Samkit:

Lenral-Jesus. Paatarak walks over to Ash and puts the map back exactly where-

Thomas:

You glide across the ice and, kind of, bump into Ash.

Samkit:

No, boots have great traction, remember?

Katie:

Yeah. Canonically, the boots have great traction.

Samkit:

Amazing traction.

Talya:

The best!

Thomas:

[Coy] You slide across the ice.

Talya:

[Gasps] Oh.

Samkit:

Ohhhh.

Katie:

Can I try to fly?

Thomas:

You absolutely may try to fly. And in fact, we're going to make this a roll.

Katie:

Yessss!

[Samkit whoops]

[Plucky music starts]

Thomas:

For those of you tuning in for the first time, we're playing a game that we're calling "Adventures in Grevelon" which is Powered by Cortex Prime. The way rolls in our game work is that I'll set a difficulty for the character by creating a pool of multiple dice based on the difficulty of the challenge. Then, our players will assemble a dice pool of their own, and attempt to beat the challenge as effectively as possible. Also-

[Music ends]

Thomas:

-I'm going to add in a special little treat for myself for such a fun season.

Samkit:

Oh no.

Talya:

Uh oh.

Katie:

Is this what you were cackling about before we started?

Thomas:

Yes it is. I'm going to give all of our players a d8 Swapped complication-

[Talya gasps]

Samkit:

[Overlapping, aghast] What?

Thomas:

-I think for obvious reasons, and I will be adding this to every roll I make to set difficulties for the players.

Samkit:

I hope you do nothing but hitch.

Talya:

Honestly, I do think that Paatarak in Lenral’s body should get the opposite where Paatarak gets an extra dice.

Katie:

Paatarak feels great.

[Talya chuckles]

Talya:

Paatarak feels great.

Samkit:

[Overlapping] Paatarak feels amazing.

Thomas:

Okay, so this is you trying to fly. Lenral has no clue how these mechanics like, like, physically work.

Katie:

Yeah.

Thomas:

But Ash’s body has some level of muscle memory here. So what I'm going to call this is a two d10 difficulty.

Talya:

[Gasps] and a d8??

Thomas:

Plus the d8 Swapped complication.

Samkit:

Oof.

[Dice roll]

Thomas:

I did hitch.

[Katie and Samkit cheer]

Talya:

[Chuckling] Oh, wait. So can we all spend a plot point to decrease…?

Thomas:

You-you may all, if you'd like to, spend a plot point right now to decrease the-to step down from a d8 to a d6.

Samkit:

I will be doing that. Thank you.

Talya:

I think I'm going to also do that. Yeah.

Katie:

Yeah, me too.

Thomas:

And that's actually only going to be an eight difficulty.

Katie:

I am on Ashallynniamehra Ginggleppossumm's character sheet.

[Samkit whoops]

Talya:

No, you're not saying it right.

Katie:

Oh, yeah. Ashallynniamehra Ginggleppossumm, two G’s, two P’s, two S’s, two M’s. Yeah.

Samkit:

There you go!

Talya:

Thank you very much. Please put some respect on the name.

[Talya claps and chuckles]

Katie:

Maybe-I guess we'll do a d8 I Always See The Silver Lining because I think that Lenral’s feeling pretty optimistic about his ability to fly right now.

Thomas:

Yeah.

Katie:

We'll do a d8 Agility?

Thomas:

Great.

Katie:

And a d8 Move?

Thomas:

Cool.

Katie:

Yeah?

Thomas:

Yeah.

Katie:

These are pretty good stats. Alright.

Talya:

Thank you so much. You should use your specialty.

Katie:

Yeah. Oh, I'm getting-I'm getting to ‘em.

Talya:

[Chuckling] Okay.

[Thomas chuckles]

Katie:

I just need to find another d8. That one doesn't have numbers on it.

Thomas:

What??

Talya:

The d8 doesn't have numbers on it?

Katie:

Can I use my d6 Fairy Magic?

Thomas:

You may.

Samkit:

Oooh.

Katie:

[Chuckling] Talya is nodding. Yeah.

[Samkit laughs]

Thomas:

Talya is nodding very enthusiastically and I will agree.

Talya:

We should be able to DM our own characters.

[Talya laughs]

Katie:

Yeah, I actually wasn't asking you, Thomas. I was asking Talya’s permission.

[Talya is laughing]

Katie:

All right. And that is my pool. And I am going to roll. What do I have to-what am I trying to hit?

Thomas:

It's just a difficulty eight.

[Dice roll]

Katie:

That's going to be-now, because I'm in Ash’s body. I'm trying to see if I could do a heroic success.

[Talya and Thomas guffaw]

Katie:

In true, Talya/Ash fashion.

Samkit:

Oh my god, that’s amazing.

Katie:

F-Ash-ion, if you will.

Talya:

And I will.

Katie:

Okay, I don't actually think I could do that. That is going to be an 11 with a d8 effect die.

Thomas:

All right. That is going to succeed.

[curious, plucky music starts]

Thomas:

Yeah, you begin to fly, and it's kind of shaky at first. You're, kind of, swerving to the left and right, but then eventually-

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Bank! Bank!

Thomas:

-you kind of get the hang of it. You're definitely not flying in, like, ideal style. It's very much like, you, kind of, sink a little bit-

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

[Unsure, overlapping Thomas’s next bit of dialogue] Whooa. Ahhh. Ohhh.

Thomas:

-and then you, kind of, like, push yourself forward and up, and you, kind of, sink and float down a little bit. It's, like, not perfect, but it is totally, like, passable flight. You-Lenral, you're flying.

[Music ends]

[Wings beating sound effect]

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

This is my childhood dream!!! Ash, I don't know why you don't do this all the time.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

I do do this all the time.

[Samkit chuckles]

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

You do it pretty often, honestly, yeah. I don't know. I feel like I'm carrying you a lot.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

You keep doing that for as long as I do. You'll get tired.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Okay. I will.

Thomas:

You're already starting to get kind of tired.

Katie:

He tries to do-he tries to do a loop-de-loop.

Thomas:

You immediately crash into the ice-

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Ahhh.

Katie:

Slides across it.

Thomas:

-and then, like, pick yourself back up. Keep flying over.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

I meant to do that.

Thomas:

And eventually you land over on Paatarak’s shoulder. Paatarak in Lenral’s body.

Katie:

My shoulder.

Thomas:

You land on your own shoulder.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Look at these delts.

[Talya chuckles]

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Yeah we haven't checked ourselves out enough, I think.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah.

Katie:

[Chuckling] Lenral leans back and checks out his-Lenral’s backside.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

[Admiration] Alright.

[Samkit laughs]

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Alright.

Talya:

Paatarak goes and covers my own eyes.

Samkit:

Yeah.

Talya:

Oh no, I’m Paatarak. I do. Ash goes and covers-

[Talya and Samkit laugh]

Talya:

I did it too!

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Wow, I can see so much from up here.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

They do say that thing about elephantfolk being very-having, like, really nice eyes.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Who says that?

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

You know.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

That something you were just trying to get started?

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah.

[Thomas and Katie laugh]

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Is there anything about elephantfolk and just constantly feeling a little nauseous?

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

No, that's just a me thing.

[puzzling, plucky music starts]

Thomas:

You are now in the middle of this, like, ice rink, basically, rocks all around you and the path out not immediately accessible. The only door that is an exit to this room, you see, like stone starts kind of lowering in front of it. It is slowly starting to close.

[Music ends]

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Oh.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Oh.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Oh.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Come on guys.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Okay.

Katie:

Lenral starts flying up to the door.

Talya:

We all start-I'll start…um.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Lenral, should I just throw you?

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

I'm already flying.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Oh okay.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

You figure out how you're getting up here.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Oh. All right, just leave us-leave us behind. Okay, great. No reading instructions, leaving us behind. Okay.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

What was that?

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

What?

Thomas:

Ash, you try to run, why don't we go ahead and do a roll? This is you trying to navigate the ice and finding a good path here. This is going to be another two d10 difficulty plus the added d8 from these-sorry, just a d6 from the swap complication.

Talya:

Okay, well as the resident carto-arcartographer, I can definitely figure out a way out of here.

[Dice roll]

Thomas:

I just maxxed.

[Victorious brass music starts]

[Talya gasps and Samkit groans]

Katie:

[Groaning] No one said-no one told them to hitch.

[Music ends]

Thomas:

[Giggling] And so, I am going to roll the d6-

Talya:

Don't play the music.

Thomas:

-which is the lower of the ones-

Katie:

I have to.

Talya:

No.

Katie:

Legally, I have to.

Thomas:

Okay, that is a 20 difficulty with a d10 effect die.

[Samkit and Katie groan]

Katie:

Oh my…

Talya:

This is me, right? This is for me?

Thomas:

This is for Ash and Paatarak's body.

Katie:

Samkit, knowing how your character sheet works, do you think this is possible?

[Thomas titters]

Samkit:

If you maxx and pick the d10s.

Talya:

Okay. I-to be so completely honest, I have no idea what Everywhere is Home means, and I have never understood it.

Samkit:

Hey. Hey. Me neither.

[Talya and Katie chuckle]

Talya:

I'm going to use Follow My Inner Compass as I am trying to navigate out of here. If I use these distinctions incorrectly, don’t @ me.

Samkit:

Good call. Good call. Good call.

Talya:

Great. So that's a d10. I'll use my d8 in Brains as I'm trying to figure out this puzzle. Can I use Know as I try to know how to…?

Thomas:

Yes, I was hoping you were going to instinctively go for Move, but I was going to pitch Know.

Talya:

[Overlapping] A d10 versus a d4? Why would I instinctively go for Move?

[Thomas and Katie laugh]

Talya:

So, and then, I'm going to use my d10 in Know, as I try to maneuver my way out of here, and-oh, can I use a specialty in Arcartography?

Thomas:

None of your specialties are going to help you here.

Samkit:

Do you want to use the lasso?

Talya:

Oh! Okay. Thomas, may I use my hydra lasso as I'm trying to, like, maybe bank around one of these big rocks?

Thomas:

Yeah. So you're basically using the lasso to, like, hook on to rocks and pull yourself across.

Talya:

Yeah. Yeah.

Thomas:

Okay. Yeah, I like that.

Talya:

Okay.

Samkit:

Great move.

[Dice roll]

Talya:

[Distressed] Oh, I almost maxxed.

Samkit:

Augh!

Talya:

Wow, that's-that's like if I had a plot point I'd make it. I did hitch.

Thomas:

Okay.

Katie:

[To the tune of “If I Were a Rich Man” from Fiddler on the Roof]

If I had a plot point-

Samkit:

[To the tune of “If I Were a Rich Man” from Fiddler on the Roof]

Ya ba dibba dibba dibba dibba dibba dibba dum

Katie:

Was that fun?

Talya:

That was fun.

Thomas:

Yeah, I liked that.

Talya:

That's an 18-

[The cast groans]

Talya:

-with-with a d8 effect die.

Thomas:

[Cheeky] Does anyone have a plot point to-

[Thomas chuckles]

Katie:

Enough out of you, Thomas. Enough.

[Thomas laughs]

Thomas:

So for the hitch, I am going to give you a plot point, and I'm going to go ahead and give you a d8 freezer burn complication-

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Owie!

Thomas:

-as you basically, like, get, basically, a rug burn on the ice.

Samkit:

Paatarak was frosty. Paatarak did start this episode as frosty.

Katie:

Yeah. That was an adjective.

Samkit:

Yeah.

[curious, plucky music starts, then transitions into puzzling, plucky music]

Thomas:

You, like, pull yourself and you, like, pull yourself so hard you, like, ricochet off some rocks, basically, and end up like on the other side of the room where you can actually feel, that the ice is beginning to kind of melt at the edges of the room, and you see below is just what looks to be a bottomless pit.

[Music ends]

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Hey, guys, maybe we should stick to the middle. Get away from the edges. Get away from the edges.

Katie:

Ugh, typical Talya doing a puzzle.

Talya:

I know, I know.

[The cast laughs]

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Okay. Are you okay? You clobbered yourself pretty hard.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Yeah, actually, you know, it doesn't hurt as much getting hit in this body.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Again, it's that mass.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Yeah, that mass really helps. Still feeling very queasy. Still very nauseous.

Thomas:

Hey, Paatarak, you do see, following your instructions from earlier with the map, as Ash tried to pull herself across the room, you see, a couple of things have been displaced onto the ice.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Oh, oh. Oh, no. Okay. I guess this is a little bit on me because I didn't tell you to close the bag. Can we quickly run over and grab this stuff and then try to get back?

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Yeah. Lenral, actually, it might be helpful for you because you don't have to-

Katie:

Lenral’s just been flying in circles around their heads. Just, like, waiting for them to get a move on.

[Thomas laughs]

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Lenral, can you help maybe grab some of the smaller items and bring them over because-

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah, yeah, I got it.

[curious, plucky music starts]

Katie:

Tilts forward, does a nosedive down to the ice to grab the items.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

[Groans] Okay. Little messy on the landing, I got it. Oop. Slippery, slippery. Okay. Here we go.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah. Be careful. Don't fly off the edge.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

All right, I've got one thing.

[Thomas chuckles]

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Okay. Now bring it back over here.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Okay.

Katie:

He flies over. He's getting-his wings are getting tired.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Here is this.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Can you go get that other stuff?

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

[Overlapping] Can you grab some other stuff?

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah. Yep. Here I go.

Katie:

Flies back, picks up one more thing.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Maybe I can get a second. Nope. Okay.

Katie:

Flies back.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Here you go. How many more things are there?

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

I think three.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

[Strained] Okay.

Katie:

Flies back.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Thank you, Lenral.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Here’s this

Katie:

And, he gets to the the last thing which I think is, like-there's, like, Paatarak's toothbrush, is lying on the ice and Lenral, like, wraps his body around it and tries to lift off the ground and, like, his wings are just too tired and he can't get any air.

[Music ends]

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

[Staining to lift] Paatarak, your toothbrush is really heavy.

[Thomas chuckles]

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Oh, I'm sorry. Okay, let me-let me come over and try to help.

Katie:

He starts using the toothbrush as a staff and is using it to, like, slide himself across the ice.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Oh…

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Never mind, I got it. I figured it out.

Thomas:

[Chuckling] Yeah, bristles down, just kind of…

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Okay I’m going to need-I’m going to need a new toothbrush.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Why? This is working great.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Lenral, you could actually-you can actually just-you can leave that. It can fall into the pit. Speaking of…

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

We need to figure out a way out of here.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Okay. You can't get up to the door. Honestly, I don't think I can get up to the door anymore. My wings are very tired. I think I overdid it. I got a little excited about flying.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Yeah. You got to build up that stamina. You can't just go into a loop-de-loop, like, day one.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah, I got excited about the loop-de-loop.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Maybe I could use the hammer staff to, like-we could use…because we've done this before when we, you know, attach the lasso to the hammer shaft, maybe we can use the hammer staff as, like-

Talya:

In this moment, Ash and Paatarak are talking amongst each other. You know?

Samkit:

Yeah. And Lenral is-yeah.

Talya:

Yeah.

Katie:

Yeah. Lenral is going,

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

I-yeah, I think the staff can-

[Over these next few lines, Lenral keeps trying to speak and is spoken over every time]

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah we can just-yeah, we can just follow the rope.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

[Overlapping] Yeah and then we can just throw it and then it'll just, like-yeah, we'll just drag ourselves over the ice.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah and-

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Yeah.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

And then I think you'll be able to throw it, but I can also throw it if you want.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

HEY! HEY!!!

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

[Overlapping] Yeah, you can throw it, but then I'll just-what? Oh sorry, Lenral.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Sorry Lenral.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Someone pick me up.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

I thought you wanted to fly.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

My wings hurt.

[The cast chuckles]

Samkit:

Alright, I pick Lenral up.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

[Baby speech] My wings huwt.

Samkit:

[Baby speech] My wings huwt.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

What I was saying is, I think that the hammer end of the staff will be better for getting traction on the ice than the wooden end is what I was saying.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Okay.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Yeah, I think-I think we-we've come to that consensus.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

[Overlapping] You already figured that out?

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Okay. Well, I was saying it at the same time as you, but I was down there and no one was listening to me, so…

[Thomas chuckles]

Talya:

I give a pointed look to Lenral.

Katie:

I don't understand that look.

[Talya and Samkit laugh]

Talya:

I point my trunk out to emphasize the point.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Whoa! Watch where you put that. I'm very small right now. If you sneeze, I'm back on the ice.

[The cast chuckles]

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

I've never sneezed ever.

[The cast laughs]

Thomas:

Okay yeah. So, Paatarak, you are going to lead this particular roll. This is going to be a 2d8 difficulty plus the added d6 Swapped complication to, kind of, combine the staff and the lasso and, kind of, create a grappling hook.

[Dice roll]

Thomas:

I hitched again.

Katie:

Yes!

Talya:

I'm not going to spend my plot point.

Thomas:

Smart.

[Katie and Talya chuckle]

Thomas:

But that is a 13 difficulty.

Samkit:

Okay.

Katie:

Welcome to the sheet.

[Talya and Katie laugh]

Thomas:

Hey, sheet’s about to get real.

Talya:

Sheet’s about to get real. Abso-fruitly.

Samkit:

I'm going to use a d10 World Wired-

Katie:

Oo!

Samkit:

-namely because this is something we've done before. I use a d10 Brawn, which Paatarak could not do, so this feels great. And a d8 Throw, which makes sense, and I'll also toss in the d8 Hammerstaff signature asset.

Thomas:

Great!

[Dice roll]

Samkit:

Oof baboof. What’d you say, 13?

Thomas:

Yes, a 13 difficulty.

Samkit:

That is a 16 with a d10 effect die.

Katie:

Yeah!

Talya:

Nice.

Thomas:

All right.

[curious, plucky music starts]

Thomas:

So as you, kind of, loop the lasso onto the staff, kind of, throw it and it latches into the now-what is the receding edge of the ice by the door, and you now just begin to pull yourself. You feel Ash, in your body, kind of, grab onto the back of your cloak as you begin to pull your entire party across the floor, leaping over the small gap. It's only about like a foot wide now between the ice and the door, and you manage to get back onto solid stone, as the door continues just slowly shut behind you.

[Music ends]

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Lenral, I never realized how strong your body is. That's wild.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Thank you. Put a lot of work into it.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

And it shows.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Do you work out? I've never seen you work out.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah. You know, the world is my gym.

[Samkit groans]

Thomas:
Woof.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Hey, if it works, it works!

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah, I guess.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

You can’t compliment it and then get mad about how I do it.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

No, you're so right.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

You know what? You're right. Egg on my face.

[Talya and Katie chuckle]

[puzzling, plucky music starts]

Thomas:

As you continue down this next corridor, you see ahead of you, kind of, flickering, this time, purple lighting rather than the cool blue torch lighting of the ice room. This purple torch lighting reveals what is basically a small room.

Katie:

Lenral feels really drawn to the purple of the light.

[Talya quietly chuckles]

Thomas:

You see ahead of you, there is a small room. There's, kind of, like, a horn, like, the end of, like, a French horn or tuba kind of sticking out of the wall, in, what is clearly another doorway. And then you see, there are actually only three torches in this room. There is one down, kind of, about a foot off the ground next to, kind of, a wide hole. There is one that's all the way up by the ceiling, right by what looks like, kind of, an open air wind tunnel, kind of, thing, and then the last one seems to be, kind of, up next to what looks like a rock climbing wall, actually. And you can see, kind of, just peeking out from underneath a crevice at the top of, like, the rock climbing wall, you see a couple of words written up there. And as you kind of come into the room in full, you see, the same, kind of, bottom portion of some words up in like the wind tunnel and then another portion of words kind of peeking out through this, like, kind of mouse hole area.

[Music ends]

Talya:

I-well, I instinctively go to the mousehole and then I remember.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah, I'm going to, I can climb up that wall in no-

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah. And I'll figure out what to do with this open air tunnel.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

All right. And break.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Okay.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

And break.

Katie:

Lenral goes to stand by the climbing wall, and just puts his hands on his hips and looks up at it for a long time.

Thomas:

Paatarak does the same, like underneath the wind tunnel.

Samkit:

Yeah, I-

Thomas:

Ash-

Talya:

I-I put my nose into the mousehole.

Thomas:

And, Ash, you actually can reach in there and are able to grab onto what feels like wooden plank that you just have to pull out of this hole.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Oh, I got it. Oh, okay. Yeah. Oh, yeah, I-guys, I got something. How is-how's everyone else doing?

Katie:

[Laughing] Oh so, you actually went to the right one.

Thomas:

[Laughing] Yes.

[Thomas laughs]

Katie:

[Laughing] We misread the situation. That’s funny.

Samkit:

That is so funny.

[Samkit and Katie laugh]

Katie:

We accidentally did the right thing.

Thomas:

Well, only Ash did the right thing.

Talya:

Only Ash accidentally did the right thing.

Samkit:

Paatarak looks over to Lenral and is like,

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Should we, um…?

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah. Let's-and real quick.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yep.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Here we go.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Is everyone else succeeding as well as I am?

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Almost.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Almost there.

Samkit:

Paatarak climbs real quick.

[curious, plucky music starts]

Thomas:

Yeah, you climb up very lithely, and you're able to, kind of, like, reach up and pull up what looks kind of like a rope ladder with these, kind of, like, slats of wood with words on them. It's, like, firmly attached to the wall. You can now read them well. And Lenral, you fly up into this, kind of, like, wind tunnel area, and you're able to read words, kind of, written across the walls here. And Ash, as you continue to dig around in this kind of mousehole, you feel two other planks down here. And this is what you all read.

Ash, you read:

1 One night four men sat down to play;

4 With separate scores for everyone.

7 Can you the paradox explain,

Lenral, up in the wind tunnel, you read:

2 They played all night ’til break of day.

5 When it came time to square accounts,

8 If no man lost, how could all gain?

And Paatarak up by the climbing wall, you read:

3 They played for gold and not for fun

6 All men had made quite fair amounts.

9 Answer?

[Music ends]

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Do you guys have some weird, like, numbers and phrases on yours?

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Mine aren't weird. Mine make perfect sense, I think actually.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah, I can read them.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Yeah.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

They make sense on their own?

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Can Lenral not read?

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

No I can. A lot of people say I can't, but I can, famously.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Lenral just doesn't like instructions.

Samkit:

Paatarak says pointedly.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah, so I've got numbers two, five, and eight, and each of them has a-has a thing by them.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

I have three, six, nine.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Okay, so we are all understanding that we have to put this in numerical order, right?

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Okay.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

It makes sense.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

It makes sense to me.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Okay. Let's do this fast because my wings are getting tired again.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

So maybe one at a time let's read it out in order.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

All right.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Okay.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Ash, you start.

[puzzling, plucky music starts]

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

One night four men sat down to play;

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

They played all night ’til break of day.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

They played for gold and not for fun

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

With separate scores for everyone.

[Music pauses]

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Oh, I get the rhyme now. Okay cool.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Yeah.

[Music starts again]

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

When it came time to square accounts,

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

All men had made quite fair amounts.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Can you the paradox explain,

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

If no man lost, how could all gain?

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Answer?

[Music ends]

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

[Laughing] They all gained friends. They all gained a nice evening together.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

I like that answer.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

[Laughing] They all gained time spent with each other.

Samkit:

Is it time?

Katie:

Is it time? Is the answer time?

Talya:

[Laughing] Is it time?

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Okay, I'm going to land now.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Come down.

Katie:

Lenral hurdles to the ground.

Samkit:

As Paatarak is coming down from the rock climbing, he, like, notices the body again and thinks about what Lenral said about the world is my gym and is like, ‘Huh, he's completely self-taught with how to, like, take care of his body. Okay.’ Just having that thought.

Talya:

He’s just touching his abs.

[Samkit and Talya laugh]

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

So yeah, do we think that the answer is, like, a fun time? A night-a night with friends? The friends we made along the way?

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Love?

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Love. Time.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Trust.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

The moon.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

The moon?

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

The stock market.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

What?

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

I don’t know.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Do we think the room is going to tell us when we get the answer?

Talya:

Do we have-is there a door here or are we just, like, in a…?

Thomas:

You see this, like, horn kind of embedded in this, like, doorway on the other side. You think you might need to say the answer into that.

Talya:

Oh yeah. Let's go up to the horn.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Maybe let's not spitball into the horn just in case. Like, what happened in the last room, like, the ice melted away.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Oh, you-we should finalize an answer before we…

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah, just in case, you know, the walls start closing in or a ceiling falls or-

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Sure. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

So we want to-we want to have a final answer before we spit into the horn.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

I think so.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah. I like-I like a fun night with friends.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

I like-yeah.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

I like an evening amongst gentlemen.

[Thomas and Talya quietly chuckle]

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah, that's a good one.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Put that in your horn and blow it.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

[Overlapping, chuckling] -and blow it.

Thomas:

So, who says that?

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Ash, do you want to say-you have-you have the trunk now, it makes you louder.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Oh, yeah. I guess if something happens, I can at least be at a distance.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

But you don't-you don’t speak through the trunk, Ash.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Oh.

[Slight pause as Thomas starts laughing]

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

My bad. I thought it was like the receiver of a telephone.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Did you just realize that after you've been talking for-

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Ash, you have a mouth!

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

No, I know. Yeah. Okay.

Thomas:

You go up and what do you say?

Talya:

I say,

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

All men gained a lovely evening amongst their loved ones.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Wasn't what we agreed on, but hopefully-

[Thomas laughs]

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

I thought you said it was a fun night-

Thomas:

You see-

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Absolutely was not what we said.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

-a fun night amongst friends. Is that not what we said?

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

And that's not what you said!

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

I tried to make-I tried to floral-y up!

[rumbling sound]

[curious, plucky music with an ominous edge starts]

Thomas:

You see the middle of the floor begins to, kind of, like, open up like a lens and, like, a, like, drop is revealed as a lightning shoots out from this horn and shocks Ash in Paatarak's body.

[Music ends]

Thomas:

You are going to take a d4 Shocked complication.

Talya:

Is that me? Am I Ash in Paatarak’s body?

Thomas:

That’s Ash in Paatarak’s body.

[The cast chuckles]

Talya:

Just making sure.

Katie:

Oh man.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Okay, so it wasn't a fun night among friends.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Well, it could’ve been. It could have been.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

[Overlapping] Well, it could be!! That wasn’t what she said!

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Yeah, I did it wrong.

[Samkit and Thomas laugh]

Thomas:

[Cheeky] You want to try it again?

Katie:

I don't know.

Talya:

I'm scared.

[Samkit laughs]

Katie:

Ugh, fine. I’ll risk it.

Talya:

Okay.

Katie:

Lenral flies up to the horn and goes,

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

[Stammering] Friendship.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

That also wasn't what we agreed on!

Thomas:

[Overlapping, laughing] The floor opens a bit more and lightning shoots out.

[Rumbling sound]

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

[Overlapping] I know, I panicked at the last second! I was like, “Maybe it's too long.”

Thomas:

[Laughing] Ash-Lenral in Ash’s body gains a d4 shocked complication.

[Katie groans in mock pain]

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Oh my god. All right. I think it doesn't have anything to do with friendships. I think it's more literal.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Oh, I know what happened! They gained age. They got older.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

That's pretty good.

Thomas:

What do you think they are playing? That's what I'll ask. They're playing for gold, not for fun.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Oh.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Blackjack?

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Monopoly.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Gin rummy.

Thomas:

Okay, that's a fantastic starting point for the kind of answer we're looking for.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

If no man lost, how could all gain?

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

They’re all women!

[Talya chuckles]

Samkit:

The doctor was the mother.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

One night four men sat down to play;

They played all night ’til break of day.

They played for gold and not for fun

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Not for fun.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

With separate scores for everyone.

When it came time to square accounts,

All men had made quite fair amounts.

Can you the paradox explain,

If no man lost, how could all gain?

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

So it's a game-

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

What game are they playing where they all win?

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

It's a game that they-that you can't lose money at.

Katie:

Thomas, is this like a Grevelon game that you just made up?

Thomas:

[Chuckling] No, it’s-

[Katie and Thomas chuckle]

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Oh, they all gained weight.

[Talya chuckles]

Samkit:

Genuinely, I thought that earlier-

Thomas:

[Overlapping, losing hope] It’s how. It’s how. It’s ‘how could all gain?’ not why.

Samkit:

[Overlapping] They ate! Food!

Talya and Katie:

[Overlapping] They were eating!

Katie:

[Overlapping] Food!

Talya:

[Overlapping] Oh, it was chocolate coins!

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

It was chocolate gold!

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

I actually love that.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Ooh, chocolate gold coins. Gelt. Hanukkah Gelt!

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

It was dreidel! They were dreideling!

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

We were playing dreidel. And it was Hanukkah gelt. They ate the Hanukkah gelt, and they gained weight. We got it.

Katie:

Lenral flies up to the horn.

Thomas:

Okay. Floor opens up a little bit more, lightning comes out.

Katie:

Ah! I didn’t actually say that.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Someone grab me! Someone stop me! We're always stopping Ash from saying these things.

Thomas:

Lenral in Ash’s is up to a d6 complication.

Katie:

Nooo. Enough of that. Enough with you.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Okay, Lenral, maybe we just-let’s just stay. Let's just wait. Hold on. Let's everybody just hold on.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Thank you. Someone stopped me. Took you long enough.

Thomas:

Think about double meanings for some of these words as well.

Katie:

But, like, do we need to figure out what game they're playing in order to get to the answer?

Thomas:

They are not playing a game.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Okay.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

[Quietly] I sat down to play-

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Music! They're playing music. Separate scores. The score of music.

Paatarak Ash [Talya] and Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

[In unison] Ohhhhhhh.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Is this music?

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Oh, it's a tuba.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

It's a tuba.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Music.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Quartet! It's a quartet!

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

It's a barber shop.

Thomas:

[Chuckling] Do you say that into the horn?

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Paatarak, I think it's your turn.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

All right. It's a quartet.

Thomas:

You see, there's like, kind of, a longer beat than you've had before. Like, it was really quick on the, like, wrong answer draw, and there seems to be, like, of, like, a mode of, like, thinking and waiting, and then the floor closes up [rumbling sound] and the door in front of you [door opening sound] opens.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Thank Namrys.

[puzzling, plucky music starts]

Thomas:

You see the door open up as you continue down the corridor towards what you see is, kind of, like, a warmer orangy red torch lighting.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

This light doesn't do it for me anymore.

Thomas:

Lenral.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Yep?

Thomas:

You hear from the speaking sprout that Ash, kind of, keeps on her person at all times, you hear, like, a little bit of static coming through weirdly.

[Static sound starts]

[Music ends]

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Oh, hello? Hello? Over. Over. Hello?

Thomas:

It sounds less like someone's calling you, and more, like, you're, like, picking up on something that's, like, a nearby, like, radiowave or something-or not radio…yeah, radiowave basically.

[Static sound stops]

Katie:

Yeah.

Talya:

I'm like, isn't Dear Liisphyra a radio show?

Katie:

I would argue, like, the first canon thing about this world is that there's radio.

[Thomas chuckles]

Talya:

Yeah.

Katie:

Yeah. Can I listen? Do I hear-can I make out anything?

[Static sound starts]

Thomas:

You just hear, like,

[Thomas mimics very muffled, static speech]

Thomas:

It's, like, so muffled.

[Static sound ends]

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Ash, I think your speaking sprout is broken.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

No, you got to, like, wipe it down a little bit and then shake it and then, like, rotate, like, 43 degrees counterclockwise-

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

[Overlapping] Okay. Alright.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

-and then, like, spin your head, 44 degrees clockwise, and then it should work.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah. Okay.

Katie:

I do all those instructions, and then I listen again.

Thomas:

You listen again. And you hear,

Singer [Thomas]:

[Sung] My love for old Grevelon is deep in my heart-

Thomas:

It's not the same station. It's just a different radio station.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Oh, turn it off the station. I don't want to hear that.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah, okay.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Oh, you're okay following those instructions?

[Talya gasps then exhales]

Katie:

I was waiting for-as soon as I said “instructions,” I was watching you.

[Thomas titters]

Katie:

Anyway.

Thomas:

Anyway.

Katie:

What's next?

[puzzling, plucky music starts]

Thomas:

You all continue down the corridor, and you emerge, and what you see is another kind of abyss in front of you-kind of, like, ten feet in front of you, and you see about 100ft across the room, there's another ledge that leads to another doorway, you see, kind of, like, a bunch of, like, metal bars and, like, wooden structures hanging from the ceiling, almost like an upside down jungle gym. And then you see a completely taken apart ladder on your side.

[Music ends]

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Do you guys think when we swap back, we're going to keep our memories? If we swap back?

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Depends. Are you going to sneeze?

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah, I was going to say.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

I've never sneezed.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

[Dubious] Mmm.

[Talya and Thomas chuckle]

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

No, but I more mean, like, this is really cool and a very interesting sinkhole and, like, underground cavern. And I can't map it right now, and so-

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Oh, I can try!

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Um.

Talya:

Can I try mapping, Thomas?

Thomas:

Yeah, you absolutely may.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

[Under the conversation, so hesitant] Yeah.

[Katie chuckles]

Talya:

I want to try to map!

Thomas:

Let’s do a roll for it, as you see Len-

Katie:

Underneath Thomas and Talya talking, Paatarak’s just going, “I-oh. Okay.”

[Talya laughs]

Thomas:

You know what? We're going to call this, I'll explain why in a little bit, but this is going to be a 2d12 difficulty with the Swapped complication and the Shocked complication.

Katie and Samkit:

[Chanting] Hitch. Hitch. Hitch. Hitch. Hitch. Hitch. Hitch. Hitch. Hitch.

[Dice roll]

Thomas:

I did hitch.

[Samkit whoops]

Katie:

Good. Because we told you to.

Thomas:

You did tell me to. That's true. And that's going to be a 17 difficulty.

[curious, plucky music starts]

Thomas:

Now, the reason this was so difficult: You have all of Paatarak’s mapping gear here. As you, like, just start kind of rummaging through one of the bags, kind of, absentmindedly, you're like, kind of, looking for a pencil, you're looking for some parchment, and, you start to feel one of your arms, kind of, shaking as you, like, pull out the pencil. You, kind of, still yourself as you, like, start trying to, like, make yourself remember all of the shapes of, like, the rooms you've been in, how big they've been. Go ahead and make your roll.

[Music ends]

Talya:

Okay, I'm going to use my distinction, Calloused Right Hand, hindered to the d4 plus my d8 in Brains and my-maybe my d6 in Craft?

Samkit:

Oooh.

Thomas:

Okay, I like that.

Talya:

As I'm trying to craft this map. And now can I use a specialty in Arcartography?

Thomas:

Yes, you may.

Talya:

That's another d6 for me.

[Dice roll]

Talya:

Dang it. I'm all-again was so close to maxxing. I did hitch. What do I have to hit?

Thomas:

You have to hit a 17.

Talya:

That's a 13 with a d6 effect die.

Thomas:

Okay, I'm going to give you a d4 Anxious complication.

Talya:

Oh, boy.

[curious, plucky music starts]

Thomas:

You begin, kind of, drawing this map and you're, like, trying to rely on some of Paatarak’s, like, muscle memory, and you see, by just, kind of, letting it all flow rather than, like, really tightly focusing on what you're doing, your map is, like-the like line is shaking with the arm. You feel, like, kind of, that nausea start to, like, kind of, creep up and knot up in your stomach again. And just, like, for a moment at the very back of your head, you just have the thought like, ‘Oh, this is bad. What was the point?’ But yeah, you, you do not successfully take down this map. And as you're, like, kind of, reeling from this, you see one of Paatarak's backup pencils, [pencil dropping sound] kind of, rolls off the ledge into the abyss in front of you.

[Music ends]

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

No! No, no wait!

Thomas:

As-

Talya:

Can I reach out to grab it with my nose?

Thomas:

As you reach out to grab it, you see a humongous, like, thin, toothy mouth reach up-

[Talya yelps]

Thomas:

-and snap around the pencil and go back down.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Okay, you can have it. That's fine. I'll get a new one. Paatarak, I lost one of your pencils. Please don't ask me to get it.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

No, I mean, it's all right. What happened?

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

[Pouting] I made this map. It wasn't very good. And I-I don't really like it. And-and then I lost the pencil, and then there was a mouth-

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Aw! Okay, it’s okay!

Thomas:

You all did see the giant toothy mouth come up and eat the pencil.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

It was HUGE!

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

That was wild.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Okay. No one go in the abyss. No one go in the abyss.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Be careful.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

In case anyone was thinking about going into the abyss: don’t!

Talya:

Can I-can I go into a different bag to get a backup backup pencil to replace the backup pencil so I can feel better about myself?

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yes, backup-

Talya:

That was a question for Thomas.

[Talya laughs]

Thomas:

[Laughing] Yes, you rummage around and from the bottom-

Talya:

No, I don't rummage around. I-I very carefully-

Thomas:

[Overlapping] You carefully-you, kind of, feel around. You go to the-go to the bottom of the arcartography bag, pull out a pencil from the bottom and slot it into one of the, like, side pockets at the back of the bag.

Talya:

And I breathe easy.

[Talya exhales]

Talya:

Okay.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

It's all right. The map-the map looks okay, Ash. Don't worry about it.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Okay, I feel good now. I feel good. The backup pencil has been replaced. I feel good.

Katie:

Lenral has-he opened his toolbox, and he's, like, trying to drag a wrench out of the toolbox.

[Thomas chuckles]

Katie:

He's, like, bracing his little feet against the edge of the toolbox and is trying to, like, heave this wrench out.

Thomas:

You leverage the wrench out and it fully just lands on top of you.

[Metal falling sound]

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Oof.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Oh, are you okay?

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

[Strained] Yeah.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Here, let me grab this.

Samkit:

He grabs the wrench. It's the wrench sword. And it, like, opens up.

[Katie and Samkit both yelp]

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

It's all good. You're all good.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah. I think I can probably fix up this ladder so we can-

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Lenral, you couldn't lift a wrench. Let me try. Let me try.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Okay. Okay. Yeah, I'll-I'll direct you. I can-I can-I can tell you what to do. Like, how you were-you know, how, like, Ash was teaching me how to fly and-um, yeah. So, you're going to-you want to take the wrench, and you just kind of-

Katie:

And Lenral’s, like, moving-he's, kind of, like, moving almost like he's, like, about to like, you know when someone's, like, about to, like, jump into, like, the middle of a circle at-like, when everyone's dancing?

Samkit:

Mhm.

Katie:

And, like, keeps looking like he's about to jump in and then he, like, falls back and he's, like,

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah, you just got to...

Katie:

He's, like-He's, like,-in his head, he's, like, trying to, like, think of, like, the first thing that-

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

You have to, like,-I can think I- you gotta just-

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

[Overlapping] And then you just do-

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Do you just kind of do it?

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

You kind of just got-you just have to do it. Just do it. That's something. Someone should do something with that.

[Samkit laughs]

Katie:

I think I made that joke in my book.

Samkit:

That's funny.

Thomas:

Oh my god.

Katie:

Preorder Out of the Loop.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Um.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Um, I-all right, let me-let me try this. Let me try it.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah. Just-just, kind of-just kind of go with it, you know?

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Okay.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Just-let the handy working spirit move you.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Okay. Yeah.

Thomas:

We'll-we'll do a roll here. This is just going to be a 2d8 difficulty. Plus that d6 swapped complication.

[Dice roll]

Thomas:

Okay. That is going to be a ten difficulty with a d6 effect die.

Samkit:

Do I do Leap Before I Look but hindered?

Katie:

I mean, I think the point of this is that I'm telling you to leap before you look.

Samkit:

[Overlapping] -leap before you look. Okay, yeah.

Katie:

I’m telling you not to think too hard about it and just, kind of, go with it.

Samkit:

That is fair. Okay, so then I'll do a Leap Before I Look, which is a d8. I think I'm going to do d8 Heart because I'm trying to listen to Lenral and Lenral’s body, and then a d10 Fix because I'm fixing a ladder.

Thomas:

Totally.

Talya:

Love it.

Samkit:

And then can I toss in a d6 specialty for Tools?

Thomas:

You absolutely may. That's what that specialty is for.

Samkit:

Perfect.

[Dice roll]

Samkit:

What did you say it was?

Thomas:

A ten difficulty.

Samkit:

Oof baboof!

Katie:

Did you hitch?

Samkit:

I didn't hitch.

Katie:

I kind of wanted you to hitch so I could use Pep Up Pal.

[Samkit laughs]

Talya:

I don't know if I've ever used that.

Katie:

I think you maybe have once, or at least you tried to.

Samkit:

I rolled three threes and a five, so that is an eight with a d8 effect die, which is not enough.

[curious, plucky music starts]

Thomas:

So you go to build the ladder and you start, like, wrenching, you start screw driving, you start hammering.

Katie:

Lenral’s, kind of, dancing around like,

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah. And then you just. And then you just-you got it in the-and then-

Katie:

He's like, not finishing any sentences.

Thomas:

And you finally finish building this ladder, put it up against the upside down jungle gym, and it immediately, like, collapses [wood breaking apart sound] into the abyss and gets eaten up by several of these toothy maws.

[Music ends]

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Ahh, they're so big.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Oh, okay, okay. I do see how that works for you.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

No, I shouldn't-I wasn't very helpful, I should have…maybe we should have looked around for instructions or something, I don't know.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

No, but I will say that felt very natural. I do see-I get it a little bit.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

So, we don't have a ladder anymore?

[Thomas chuckles]

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah. We don't have a ladder.

Talya:

Can I lift Ash up… [sigh] Can I lift Lenral up in my trunk? I guess she can also fly-he can also fly. Sorry, I keep forgetting I’m Ash.

[Katie laughs]

Katie:

You two are so visually locked into the situation.

Talya:

[Chuckling] Yeah. I've been playing this character for two years.

Katie:

[Chuckling] I don’t think I’ve messed up once-

Talya:

[Chuckling] No, you haven’t.

Katie:

[Chuckling] -and you two have messed up multiple times. I don't know how many of them made the cut, but I want everyone to know that-

Samkit:

[Chuckling] Truly it’s so funny.

Katie:

[Chuckling] -Samkit and Talya keep confusing who they are. It's very funny.

Talya:

It's because I look at you, and now I see Ash.

Katie:

You're-you're really-you're in the world, and I really admire that.

[puzzling, plucky music starts]

Thomas:

Yeah, you can kind of give, Ash-no, I-I did too. You can kind of give Lenral this, kind of, boost up with Paatarak's trunk that you're controlling as you and Paatarak start to, like, kind of, discuss, like, what to do in this situation without the ladder, Lenral-

Katie:

Yeah?

Thomas:

-you can kind of see across the hall, there's a big blue lever right next to the door, like, right next to the exit door-

Katie:

Mhm?

Thomas:

-and it doesn't seem like anybody else has noticed it.

[Music ends]

Katie:

It’s on the other side of the abyss?

Thomas:

Yeah.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

I guess we could try to jump up there or, like, try to throw Lenral up there.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

[Overlapping] Maybe, like, we can get the planks-didn't I have planks in the other room?

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Hey guys.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

[Overlapping] I could grab-maybe we could try to.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

[Overlapping] Yeah, maybe we could create, like, a sma-small ladder.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

[Overlapping] Guys, there's a-

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

[Overlapping] We could try to do the hammer staff thing again.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

[Overlapping] Excuse me. Excuse me, I'm sorry to interrupt.

[Katie chuckles]

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

[Overlapping] And now with-I mean, now, maybe we could just-

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

[Overlapping] I hate to interrupt, but-

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

I'm sorry?

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

What's happening?

[Thomas and Katie laugh]

Katie:

[Laughing] So polite. So polite.

Thomas:

[Laughing] I hate to interrupt.

Katie:

[Laughing] Excuse me. My friends.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Sorry, Len. I'm so used to, you know, being able to very easily hear and see you.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah, yeah. That's okay. It's a little frustrating. No, I just wanted to point out that there's a lever over there. By the door. Over there.

Katie:

Points a tiny finger across the abyss.

Thomas:

You two can actually not see the lever.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

I’m not seeing a lever.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

I’m not-we’re not sure if you know what you’re talking about.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

It's right-it's right there.

Thomas:

Len, you can see the lever clear as day.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

I can see the lever, clear as day!

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

It's, like, foggy at best.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Yeah. I can't really see much.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

[Dubious] Okay. I'm losing Ash’s mind, I think.

[Samkit laughs]

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

I think Ash's overactive imagination stayed in her body and is now affecting my mind.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Hey!

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

If you see something that's helpful, do you want to try to go pull a lever?

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

[Overlapping] -get it? Yeah.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah.

Talya:

Pull the lever, Kronk.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

I’ll pull the level Kronk, yeah.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Maybe, be careful flying straight across because of those toothy maws.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Oh, yeah. Those things are huge!

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Maybe, if you can, fly up into the jungle gym and then fly down.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Oh, I was going to say we should throw things like pebbles to distract the maws as Lenral is flying across.

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

I've got some butter in my bag. Maybe they'll eat that and then they won't eat me.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Oh, wait. Give me-give me-give me some of the-your business cards. Maybe the mouths will stick together with the sticky business-

[Talya laughs]

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Oh, that’s good, that’s good.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

That's good. Oh, maybe butter on the cards?

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Oh, that's delicious actually.

Katie:

I-I start, like, feeling-feeling for, like, the business cards. I'm like,

Ash Lenral [Katie]:

Oh I think they're in my-you're-they're in the bag.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Oh I have them! Oh, I've never been able to pull out my own items.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

I'll get the butter.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

I have them. Look, I have them.

[Talya and Katie chuckle]

Katie:

She’s so happy.

Thomas:

As Lenral in Ash's body goes to fly up into the jungle gym, you all start, kind of, pelting, I guess, business cards wrapped around rocks just because otherwise it's just business cards, kind of, floating in the air.

Katie:

No, no, they make them into paper airplanes.

Talya:

Yeah.

Thomas:

Oh beautiful.

Samkit:

Oh, yeah. Perfect.

Thomas:

This is going to be a roll for Lenral in Ash's body. This is going to be a d10 and a d8 difficulty, plus a d6 Swapped with a d4 Shock complication as well.

Talya:

Wait, I'm going to spend a plot point.

Samkit:

I'm also going to use a talent.

[Thomas gasps and Katie squeals with excitement]

Talya:

Is this Older Brother Energy?

[Katie laughs]

Samkit and Thomas:

[In unison] No.

Samkit:

Lenral has a talent called, Hey, Over Here!

Katie:

[excited] -over here! Yeah, I know!!!

Samkit:

The only activation is when-when I want to distract someone from my allies, I can cause a distraction-

Katie:

Eehehehe!

Samkit:

-to give Lenral a d8 Asset to attempt to move without being noticed, however, I will get a d8 complication associated with my distraction efforts.

Katie:

Aw, how many complications do you have already?

Samkit:

Only one.

Katie:

Okay.

Thomas:

Remember, it's Paatarak's body that has a lot of complications right now.

[Thomas chuckles]

Samkit:

Yeah. Paatarak's body? Going through it.

Katie:

The body keeps the complications.

[Samkit and Thomas laugh]

Thomas:

Okay, great. So Lenral will have that extra d8 asset for sneaking through the jungle gym. I will roll for the difficulty.

[Dice roll]

Thomas:

I'm going to go ahead and spend a plot point to add an extra result from the dice here.

Katie:

[Facetious] You get plot points?

Talya:

Yeah.

Thomas:

Yes, I got three at the start-I got one per player at the start of every session.

Talya:

Hey, I didn't ask because I know this time.

Thomas:

Yes.

Talya:

I remembered. Okay?

Thomas:

That's gonna be a 14 difficulty with a d8 effect die.

Talya:

Can I use a plot point to help?

Thomas:

Absolutely. How are you helping?

Talya:

I think since Lenral said that Ash's overactive imagination has stayed in a little bit, I think, I'll give my d8 Brains as the overactive imagination.

[Talya chuckles]

Samkit:

I like that. I like that a lot.

Thomas:

Alright.

Katie:

That’s fun.

Thomas:

That’ll be stepped down-

Talya:

-to a d6.

Katie:

So I have a d8 from Paatarak and a d6 from Ash.

Samkit:

The asset is a sticky business card attached to a rock that I'm tossing at the Maw so that they don't notice the fairy.

Thomas:

And you will get a d8 buttery complication.

Samkit:

Love it.

Talya:

That's actually not a complication.

Katie:

Yeah, that's actually a-that's a great-that's a great time. Okay. Again, I'm going to do a d8 I Always See The Silver Lining. Again, Lenral’s trying to stay optimistic about his ability to fly, even though his wings have gotten very tired. Do d8 Agility. We'll do a d6 Sneak, d6 of Fairy Magic because I'm flying.

Thomas:

I'm going to say, actually, that's not going to apply here.

Katie:

What?!

Thomas:

So the d6 for fairy magic was to figure out how to fly with the flying. Once you are flying, the fairy magic would only apply if you're doing something that's like traditional fairy magic.

Katie:

No. It's fine. And then I'll just do my d8 Rolypolydex. Alright.

[Talya and Samkit laugh]

Thomas:

[Laughing] No. Absolutely not.

Katie:

What am I trying get?

Thomas:

You are trying, oh god, a 14.

[Dice roll]

Katie:

Oh, I'm- [groans and cringes]

Samkit:

How many hitches?

Katie:

One hitch.

Samkit:

Oof.

Katie:

I don't hitch a lot. This might be my first hitch of the season.

[Katie chuckles]

Samkit:

I think it might be, genuinely.

Katie:

It genuinely might be.

Talya:

Do you have a plot point to add another…?

Katie:

I don't-I still don't-I'm not going to-I don't think if I have all of these dice, I don't think I'm hitting 14.

Thomas:

Oh no.

Katie:

That-no, all of my dice combined is exactly 14, and that's not how this game works.

Thomas:

So you are-

Katie:

Also, I don't have a plot point.

[curious, plucky music starts]

Thomas:

You are flying through this jungle gym, dodging and weaving, and then suddenly you see an imp with, like, a bat, like, a wooden bat, come up in front of you and just, kind of, whack you down, and you just, kind of, fall and spiral, and you are [Thomas gulps] gulped down by one of the big, toothy maws.

[Talya gasps]

[Music ends]

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Lenral!!!

Katie:

It's been fun.

[Thomas laughs]

Talya:

I'm dead?

Thomas:

And I-

Katie:

That's a season wrap on Katie.

Thomas:

-I will give you the Batted complication, a d8 complication Batted.

Katie:

This is the most complications I think I've ever had.

Thomas:

Yes, I mean, this is the most complications we've had, period.

Thomas:

You-you see-

Talya:

I see myself get eaten.

Thomas:

You see yourself being swallowed.

Paatarak Ash [Talya]:

Len!!

Talya:

I-I'm going to jump in after him.

Lenral Paatarak [Samkit]:

Oh!

Thomas:

All right. Ash in Paatarak's body jumps in and is swallowed up by a big toothy maw.

Samkit:

I'll do it, too.

Thomas:

And Paatarak in Len's body jumps in and is swallowed by a big toothy maw.

Samkit:

And, that's where we're going to end our episode.

[Katie chuckles]

[upbeat game show music fades in]

Thomas:

No. As you all are encased in darkness, you suddenly hear voices, you hear laughter, you hear clapping, [applause sound] and then suddenly you are, like, almost blinded by bright light as you are deposited on a large, comfy couch, and you see someone with, like, a thick mustache, side swept hair, deep tanned skin, huge smile with like, a little, like, speaking sprout, like, microphone and goes,

Host Folk [Thomas]:

Well then, folks, it seems like our competitors could not get past the very final trial. How do you three feel?

Thomas:

And holds this, like speaking plant-speaking sprout microphone up to the three of you.

[Music ends]

Samkit:

Are we still in our wrong bodies?

Thomas:

You have now returned to your own bodies.

Lenral [Katie]:

OH Namrys alive.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Oh my back!

Katie:

Lenral hugs himself.

[Samkit groans, Thomas and Katie chuckle]

Katie:

Paatarak is groaning, trying to crack his back.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah. Couches aren't really good for that.

Samkit:

Paatarak goes up and, like, finds a wall and just, like, turns his back.

Host Folk [Thomas]:

No, no, please, please, please. We want to hear from you.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

[Strained] Oh, no. I'll come back. Hold on.

Lenral [Katie]:

Give him a second. Give him a second.

Host Folk [Thomas]:

How do you three feel?

Ash [Talya]:

Okay, well, if you ask me, Hi, Ashallynniamehra Ginggleppossumm, two G’s, two P’s, two S’s, two M’s.

Host Folk [Thomas]:

[Overlapping] Yes, we know.

Katie:

Lenral picks her up, holds her closer to the microphone.

Ash [Talya]:

Yeah. Okay. So, we have no idea what's going on here, and we just saw me die and-

Host Folk [Thomas]:

[Overlapping] Oh, no, no, no, don't worry.

Ash [Talya]:

[Overlapping] -me did not like that very much.

Host Folk [Thomas]:

[Overlapping] You were perfectly safe-

Ash [Talya]:

[Overlapping] And shame on you for showing me my-my own demise.

Host Folk [Thomas]:

Oh, no, no, no. Oh. [Snickers haughtily] How silly.

Lenral [Katie]:

[Laughing along] No, I’m laughing too-

[Samkit also laughs unsurely]

Lenral [Katie]:

-but why don't you tell my friends why we're laughing right now? Because I don’t-

Chip Chipelsen [Thomas]:

My name is Chip Chipelsen, and you're on Frantic Friendship Fiasco. We find a group of three friends or more who've recently got into a little bit of a tiff. My friend Perri Perilsen finds them and lures them into one of our dungeons, and we put them through a series of trials to test their friendship.

Lenral [Katie]:

And the answer to the riddle wasn't friendship? It feels like that would have been really on theme for your whole thing.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah, that would have been really smart.

Chip Chipelsen [Thomas]:

[Laughing snarkily] Oh, you're so funny, Lenral. Come on. Please tell us, how do you feel after that?

Lenral [Katie]:

Oh, I’m Lenral now. Right.

Ash [Talya]:

My client does not speak to anyone without a contract written up to make sure that he is compensated for his time.

Chip Chipelsen [Thomas]:

Oh, don't worry, you all will be compensated handsomely for your time on this show.

Katie:

Lenral grabs the microphone.

Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah, it was kind of-it was intense. Definitely feel like a situation I would have liked to know I was in, know that I wasn't in any real peril. My friends were really scared, too. Don't like that, when my friends are scared. My friend had to watch herself get eaten. That wasn't great.

Thomas:

He, like, starts-starts trying, like, pull the microphone back from you.

Lenral [Katie]:

No no no, hang on. I got more.

Ash [Talya]:

Let him cook. Let him cook.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Let him cook.

Lenral [Katie]:

And it just feels like this whole operation is a little bit-is a little bit of a-

Thomas:

He's, kind of, panicked looking around.

Ash [Talya]:

Keep going, Len.

Samkit:

Yeah. Keep going.

Chip Chipelsen [Thomas]:

[Quietly] Cut it. Cut it.

Katie:

But, but-no, don't cut, don't cut! Hang on! I have more to say.

Thomas:

[Overlapping] The lights kind of dim a little bit, and he goes,

Chip Chipelsen [Thomas]:

We’re-

Lenral [Katie]:

[Powering past them] No, no, no, because I was in that tiny little body, and no one was listening to what I had to say-

Chip Chipelsen [Thomas]::

[Overlapping, cutting Lenral off] We’re off the air. We’re off the air. We’re off the air. We're off the air now. We're on a commercial break right now. We'll have to wait for that commercial to finish. But, are we going to play ball or are we going to complain?

Ash [Talya]:

Complain.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Complain.

Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah, I would like to complain some more, please.

Chip Chipelsen [Thomas]:

Perri, get them their 100 ryn coins and send them on their way.

Thomas:

And you see, a figure walks out, this small, gnomish woman who has the same, like, beautiful, kind of, glinting eyes as the old woman you met on the road beforehand.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

What did I tell you guys? Never trust old women who tell you to go into dungeons.

Ash [Talya]:

Paatarak, take her sandwich.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

I'm going to steal this woman's sandwich.

Thomas:

You see, she has, like, three, like, satchels with, like, food in there for you all and, kind of, hands them out to you all, hands you this, like, sack, which has, actually, 100 ryn coins each, for you.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Oh my god.

Ash [Talya]:

Lenral? Lenral?

Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah.

Ash [Talya]:

Lenral, can you take my ryn coins?

Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah, Ash, I got it.

Ash [Talya]:

Okay. Thank you. And maybe-and maybe if Paatarak has room in his bags, but only-only if there's, like, you know, a system to-for-and that it doesn't get messed up. I don't want to misplace anything for him.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Oh, yeah. I can fit them. I have-I have a space for your stuff.

Ash [Talya]:

You have a space just for me?

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Well, yeah. Of course.

Ash [Talya]:

I didn't know that.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah, it's-it's right here in the-in the, you know, the general bag. It lives on the left side.

Ash [Talya]:

Oh I-I'm sorry. Next time, I’ll know. Thank you for informing me of my space. I've never had a space of myself in a bag before.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

You can put anything in here in any way that you want.

Ash [Talya]:

I like the system you have. Can you share your system with me?

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah, we'll-we’ll-we'll go through it tonight. I'll walk you through it.

Ash [Talya]:

Okay.

Lenral [Katie]:

Hey, Ash. Can you-these people are, like, kind of hovering around us. Can you-can you get them to leave us alone, so we can get out of here?

Ash [Talya]:

Oh, yeah.

Talya:

CRACK.

[Katie and Thomas laugh]

Talya:

And then I crack my wings too.

Thomas:

Crack your wings.

Katie:

Lenral holds her up close to whoever’s nearest us.

Ash [Talya]:

Excuse me. Hello?

Perri Perilsen [Thomas]:

Yes?

Ash [Talya]:

Yes, I represent myself and my two compatriots. We would not be held in this dungeon any longer. It is specifically stated, in the contract that I hold with myself, that I will not be held in any dungeon or place in which I am uncomfortable, not even for a second.

Perri Perilsen [Thomas]:

Oh, right. Well, we can get you on your way, but just know that-

Lenral [Katie]:

[Cutting them off] She was still talking!

Ash [Talya]:

I was still talking. Thank you. So, please show us the exits. Thank you for the satchels. Thank you for the ryn coin. It's been an awful time, and I will not recommend you to anyone else ever. Lenral, to the exit.

Lenral [Katie]:

Here we go.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Good day! Bad day!

[Katie chuckles]

Perri Perilsen [Thomas]:

Let me show you. It's a bit of a labyrinth around here.

Thomas:

You see, Perri, she kind of leads you through these, kind of like, labyrinthine halls.

Katie:

We’re-we're just like-we're, like, trying to keep our, like, angry-

Samkit:

[Overlapping] -keep the anger on, but it’s very difficult.

Katie:

[Overlapping] -we're trying to storm out, but it's a really long storm out.

[Talya makes angry huffs]

Thomas:

You walk past a, like, room with, like, a glass window where you can see, like, three dozen wizards, all like, looking into, like, scrying orbs, like trying to find, like, other friends, having a hard time and-

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Guys, you know-you know, this is weird, right? You know this is abnormal behavior?

Perri Perilsen [Thomas]:

Listen, this is a very popular show. It's quite popular. You know, this is our third episode, but, you know, the ratings are great.

Lenral [Katie]:

Is this a-is this a radio show? What is this?

Perri Perilsen [Thomas]:

Yeah. Radio show, live audience, but we do have a large scrying screen where people can-

Lenral [Katie]:

I only listen to one radio show!

[Katie chuckles]

Perri Perilsen [Thomas]:

Yeah? What’s that?

Lenral [Katie]:

It's called Dear Liisphyra, and it's the best radio show in Grevelon.

Perri Perilsen [Thomas]:

Oh, I love that show.

Lenral [Katie]:

Oh. Oh, that's my sister, actually. Liisphyra.

Perri Perilsen [Thomas]:

Oh right. Lyndambar, right.

Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Relation!

Perri Perilsen [Thomas]:

No, I wrote in for, like, show-for, like, how to get friends to be friends when they're having a hard time, and she, like, recommended…I don't remember her specific words, but something like, make them understand each other.

Lenral [Katie]:

[Overlapping] Yeah, I doubt it was doing a thing like this!

Perri Perilsen [Thomas]:

Well, she said make them understand each other.

Lenral [Katie]:

Phe Phe would never!

Perri Perilsen [Thomas]:

Here's the exit! Just go!

Lenral [Katie]:

Thank you! Have a good day!

Ash [Talya]:

Have a bad day!

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Goodbye!

Thomas:

You just hear, like, in the back, like, through the hallways, echoing,

Chip Chipelsen [Thomas]:

[In the distance, echoing] Sorry for those technical difficulties, everyone. We are-thankfully, we have some great replay with some extra commentary by myself and Perri Perilsen, so we hope you stick around.

Talya:

Wasn't this an episode of Dear Liisphyra that we called into?

Katie:

We-this is-this is not the first time we were trapped on a, sort of, game show.

[Thomas chuckles nervously, hoping no one caught this until much later]

Talya:

[Overlapping] -a friendship based game show.

Katie:

-friendship based game show.

Thomas:

For sure.

Talya:

Okay.

Lenral [Katie]:

If I had a ryn coin…

Ash [Talya]:

[Chuckling] If I had a ryn coin for every time I was trapped on a friendship based game show…

Thomas:

And, the door closes, and you are actually on a hill-a small hill overlooking Priloshi Vale, which was your eventual destination.

[Katie sighs]

Lenral [Katie]:

Hey, thanks for getting us out of there, Ash.

Ash [Talya]:

Oh, yeah. Well, thanks for walking me out. I feel like you really used-you really exerted myself a lot.

Lenral [Katie]:

Oh, are you, you feel tired? Yeah, sorry.

Ash [Talya]:

I feel a little sore.

Lenral [Katie]:

I was really excited about the wings. I was really excited about the flying. Flying is fun, but it's exhausting, and I understand why you need us to carry you around a lot, and I also, I-I understand, I think, kind of, why you, sort of, put yourself in situations because if you don't, then, you know, people aren't really going to hear you. So, I'm sorry if I ever, you know, made you feel like you were putting in your two ryn coins where they didn't belong. I do appreciate you stepping up and helping out.

Ash [Talya]:

Yeah. I mean, I had to learn how to insert myself because otherwise no one ever would invite me into the conversation.

Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah, it's hard when you're small.

Ash [Talya]:

Yeah. I apologize if it ever feels like I push myself into situations where maybe I wasn't invited.

Lenral [Katie]:

Well, I'll try to be a better listener so you don't feel like you have to always push.

Ash [Talya]:

Thank you.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

And, Lenral, I'm-I'm really sorry about making you read instructions. I couldn't put that ladder together. I don't know, it feels like if I had more of the knowledge that you have, it would have worked out without any instructions. I think I need to be able to trust you more, because you are very good at what you do, and incredibly talented, just naturally. So, I'm sorry for always hounding you about instructions.

Lenral [Katie]:

It's all right. I'm sorry I got mad. I-you know, I care about what you think about me. I want you to, you know, trust me.

Lenral [Samkit]:

Yeah. No, and I do.

Lenral [Katie]:

Hey, I'm going to build you that compass staff, and it's going to be great.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

I believe it.

Lenral [Katie]:

And, it’s going to have a lot of extra features that you're going to keep discovering weeks down the line.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Whoa! Features?

Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah, actually, you know what? I'm going to give you a list of all the features because I feel you’re not going to enjoy being surprised by those.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

[Overlapping] Yeah, please do. I'm not going to explore it. Yeah.

Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah, I'll let you know what the features are.

Ash [Talya]:

I actually understand why Paatarak enjoys the structure that he does. When you're constantly feeling a little bit ill-

[The cast guffaws]

Ash [Talya]:

-and things are constantly scaring you, and-and you're not really sure what to do, or-and you feel like you're kind of lost, the structure actually really helps. I really get it. I'm sorry if I disturbed your peace of mind.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

That's all right. I mean, look, it is-I have a lot of perfectionist tendencies, and I do understand that that can get in the way of things, but I appreciate you, you know, wanting to learn my system and being more mindful about it.

Ash [Talya]:

All this being said, no one tell that elf host that their system worked because I can't live with the smugness.

Lenral [Katie]:

[Overlapping] Absolutely not. No, no, no, no. Cannot tell them that.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

[Overlapping] No. We absolutely cannot let them know.

Ash [Talya]:

This stays amongst us.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

You shouldn’t be kidnapping people!

Lenral [Katie]:

No, I think we would have come to this conclusion on our own!

Ash [Talya]:

Hey Lenral, you got to fly. That's nice.

Lenral [Katie]:

That was pretty fun. I kind of want to see if I could, like, build wings for myself.

Ash [Talya]:

Yeah, you could do anything probably.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Ash, how did it feel to have a trunk?

Ash [Talya]:

I was more impressed with your height. And, guys, I think I'm kind of small.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah.

Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah. Yeah.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

You are.

Ash [Talya]:

I think that's-that's like that-who knew, you know? That was the biggest shock.

Lenral [Katie]:

And Paat, my body? Review?

[The cast breaks into silent giggles]

Paatarak [Samkit]:

No, it was great. I mean you move at a pace that I have never felt before. I could climb a wall in, like, 30 seconds tops.

Lenral [Katie]:

Hey, 15 seconds if you got used to it more.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

I mean, in this body, it would take me like-you know that wall in there? It'd take me, like, solid 30 minutes.

Lenral [Katie]:

You could do it, though. We should do some climbing practice together.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah, that can be fun.

Ash [Talya]:

And then we'll organize our bag together.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah!

Ash [Talya]:

And Len, you and I can practice flying once you build your wings.

Lenral [Katie]:

Oh, yeah. That'd be fun.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

That’ll be great.

Ash [Talya]:

Now we all have activities together.

Lenral [Katie]:

Now we-and now we all have activities together.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

And now we all have activities together.

Lenral [Katie]:

Love you guys.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

I love you guys.

Lenral [Katie]:

Ash, say it back.

Ash [Thomas]:

I love you both.

[curious, plucky music starts]

Thomas:

As you all reminisce about the day and make plans for the future, you make your way down the hill to Priloshi Vale. You hear just drifting out from one of the windows,

Chip Chipelsen [Thomas]:

[Echoing] Well, I'm Chip Chipelsen reminding you all that nothing is fairer than friendship.

Thomas:

As the sun begins to set over the sea-

[Music goes discordant for a note then stops]

Talya:

The suns?

[The players laugh]

Thomas:

-as the suns begins to set over the sea-

[Music starts again]

Thomas:

-the golden sunsset and the dusky purple of twilight greet you as you enter the town. And that's where we're going to end our season.

[Music ends]

[The players clap and cheer]

Talya:

Congratulations, everyone.

Samkit:

Great season, everybody!

Katie:

Great job, Thomas.

Thomas:

Thank you!

Talya:

Good job, Thomas.

Samkit:

I don’t know why I’m still talking in a Paatarak voice.

Katie:

[Chuckling] Get-Samkit, get out, get out!!

[cheerful, upbeat music]
